I used to do that in the past but now I have a different procedure where I don't have to pound on it as much. There is a link under my videos now from a shop in Australia that shows a great way to install (and remove) glass. It was a learning experience for me, so if you are going to install glass, watch how he does it. Much simpler and not so brutal!

Hey Jerry, ha ha, i had the same problem on my 55 2nd series the roll pin wanted to work it's way out when i went back and forth with the handle, so i put a little dab of lock tight on the pin and it worked really good, just thought i would pass that on, great video, just wished you had more of them

Thanks for the tip! The problem is that the repro handles have the pin hole a little off from the original so grinding the groove in the shaft is necessary to get the pin inserted. I am hoping to have more time this fall/winter to do more vids.

I absolutely enjoyed watching this video. It's amazing how clam you were and how well you did all the work in actual time. I took the vent windows off my 53 Chevy Sedan over 10 years ago and just now decided it's time to attempt to put them back together and install them back in the car. I read were you will do a pair for $225, plus parts and shipping cost. I was wondering if you would be willing to do the went windows for my 53 Chevy Sedan?

Yes I would do these for you (and have done these previously for other customers) but I can't guarantee the labor as they are a bit more work to restore. Also, the passenger cars have a bit more stainless & chrome to deal with. You can call me to discuss if you wish @ 541-405-8286. Thanks for your nice comments!

Hi Jerry. I recently removed my vent window assembly on my 1952 Chevy Truck to rebuild and add new seals. The vent window T post was so rusted the nut stripped off along with stripping the threads on the post. The post is rusted bad. Im having a hard time finding a replacement vent window t post. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Hi Robert, I am currently reproducing these pivot posts for $25 each + shipping. I am making them with stainless steel so this won't be an issue in the future. I don't know of anyone else making these and after producing a few, I can see why. The rights and lefts are not interchangeable and the post is canted slightly forward and with a slight angle so when installed, it has a slight inward angle on each side. I am currently making jigs to make the job a bit easier to produce but for now I am doing them by hand. If you are interested in one or both sides, you can email me at drjsrestorx@comcast.net

I know this video is a little older, but I’m about to set new glass in the wing windows of my ‘61 Ford Unibody. The setting tape has a sticky (ish) side with a peal-off plastic sheeting and the other side is almost like a thread mesh that is not as “rubbery”. Which side of this setting tape goes towards the glass?
@jerrykassis5181
@jerrykassis5181 Жыл бұрын
The stickier rubber side goes to the glass. I don't use that type of setting channel any more. I use the butyl type setting tape and I attach the setting tape to the glass with a couple strips of electrical tape, then lubricate the channel side with kerosine before setting the glass into the channel. I have also found that the 3/64" thick tape works the best on the older model windows.

Can you change the seal without removing the pivot rivet remove the 2 rivet on the other side of the frame/hinge
@jerrykassis5181
@jerrykassis5181 2 жыл бұрын
You can but I don't see the point unless you can't get a new shouldered pivot rivet. You will still have to rivet the the hinge bracket back onto the outer frame. You can get away with pop riveting the bracket to the frame but the proper way is to use semi-tubular rivets.

What a well made AWESOME Video !!!!!! Thank You for making it Jerry. I have a 1953 Chevrolet Panel Truck I just got in September of 2022. One of the many things that need restored is the vent windows. The price that I saw quoted below was $225. a pair plus parts and shipping back to me,is that still that price ? Also when you restore a pair for others do you sandblast and paint the frames with that black Commercial Performance Coating that you used in the Video ? I would like to have the green tinted vent window glass.

Hi Mark, Thanks for the nice comments! Sorry for the LATE reply! My labor price is now $285 per pair and yes, I do sandblast and paint with the PPG Commercial Coatings still. You can email me at drjsrestorx@comcast.net for more info.

Hi Jerry..awesome video. I had to remove the striker plate on both vent windows. I know you mentioned needing bigger rivets to install them. Do these striker plate rivets come in the 26 piece set from the filling station? If not, what size rivets are they? Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Take care sir!

Do you happen to put a set together if we ship our over to you? I'd like a set of green glass for my 53 but I can't find any pre made and I don't have the tools or sand blaster to buy the glass and do my own.

Yes I can. You can get my restoration info on my web site, www.drjsrestorationrx.com. Labor is $225 per pair plus parts for the 51-55 1st series trucks. Shipping back to you is extra.

Thanks for your nice comments! Unfortunately the "GTE Tools" (tech-life.com) tube dispenser was discontinued my the manufacturer about a year ago. I have since been in contact with them and they said that this item was not in their mainstream of products (it was a side project) and are now looking for someone else to buy the tooling and take over the project. They want $30K for the tooling but that price is negotiable. I am considering it, but not ready to take it on. I would like to see this on the market again so if anyone out there is interested, email me at: drjsrestorx@comcast.net

@jerrykassis5181
@jerrykassis5181 3 жыл бұрын
You can get one at a Harley Davidson dealer but they are over $300 last I heard. You can use a manual staking tool and you can get this with the rivets from The Filling Station (800-841-6622) part number FS-633. Takes a little practice but it can be done successfully.
