I wonder if warming up the molding to make it more pliable would make it easier to install on the frame? 🤔
@gman1007 ай бұрын
Haha! I watched at least four or five "how to" videos, but when it came time for me to install that rubber, I went back and watched them all again! Then, all of a sudden, this video pops up out of no where, a virtual gift from the lord of frustration himself! First off, you're lucky you have a helper, I'm stuck with my banged up hands. I took my frame apart because I thought it might be easier to put the rubber on, I haven't started it yet, just came in today. It looks like it's going to be just like they say. Anyway, thanks for putting this together, it's going to be well used for sure. Happy trails.

Thank you and good luck! Hopefully they sell these new soon!

UPDATE:, I finished both sides and it wasn't too bad at all, but yes, the first thing to do is make sure you know which style you have and order the correct rubber. It went pretty smooth, I took my time and painted the frames, used some silicone spray (helped a lot) and took my time. It looks so much better too. I did the doors all the way around which was a walk in the park compared to these, but again, well worth the effort. I also repainted the door cards and greased all the gear workings for the window mechanism and that made a big difference,

There's also 2 different rubber kits for 81 to 87, you need to know that before you order. Also I mix up some Super Clean and water to install the rubbers, that solution is more slippery that soap, works great!

That is one of my favorite shirts… You can get that at the “Sweet Patina” website in their apparel section! Thank you for watching!!

I am embarrassed to admit how many I watched, I lost count and just went for it. I did it the same way and it definitely is no fun with that seal. I also waited on my K20 restoration. Last two pieces to do, finished one today, drivers side tomorrow. My suggestion to anybody reading this comment, BE PATIENT........😁

Does the piece that he originally drilled out to 6 or 8 holes that’s supposed to actually be 3 on the 73-79… does that frame need to get drilled out ? And the new rubber riveted back in ?
@FamilysGarage4 ай бұрын
@BUILTBYBLAKE424 no you just unfold the tabs and pull the rubber out. The new rubber will have tabs to fold over if there’s no drilling.😎
@BUILTBYBLAKE4244 ай бұрын
@@FamilysGarage hm this one is the 79 model… this one is just smooth piece of rubber, with 4 hole indentations that look like they need to get drilled out in the rubber. The metal from itself also has 4 holes stamped but not drilled out…

first video i watched on the vent windows. I am curious would it have not been a little easier to put the trim on before assembling the frame?
@neilgriffor8103 ай бұрын
Would it be easier to drill out the frame rivets also to get the new seals in?? Im at that point as im typing this...
@FamilysGarage3 ай бұрын
As I mentioned in the video that was where I went really wrong and couldn’t fix the other one I attempted it would be easier maybe if you had two helpers to hold everything together, but I don’t think so

What is in between the glass and the frame? Rubber?
@FamilysGarage21 күн бұрын
yes thats the seals you need to buy.
@christopherray1224 ай бұрын
Those inserts you can't buy, LMC has em in 1 of the repair kits. But do not buy their clam shells. Their "bolts" are pot metal n tear right in two. Big ass ablations (air bubbles) in the castings.

Were did you get the frame and glass from?
@FamilysGarage21 күн бұрын
Glass is from LMC, glass frame is from Jeg's, you cannot buy the main frames unfortunatly.
