When I saw gnomes climbing up a chair in my bedroom (I was unwell, but not feverish) it was as if they faded in and out of this dimension. They were unaware of me. Or ignored me. I covered my eyes with my hands in disbelief and when I looked again, they were fading out. They never fully materialised, in full colour. Just a kind of black and white, translucent image. But they were absolutely like you would think of a gnome - to a T. I've no idea why I would have thought of that - it wasn't as if I was thinking about anything spiritual or other-worldly. They just appeared. I never saw them again. To me, animals are absolutely people. I have a willow tree friend - wonderful being. The work of Veda Austin shows that water holds emotion and memory. Woodlands definitely have personality. I have been forced off a wooded hillside. Extraordinary experience. Very interesting conversation. thank you.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite podcast. I've been listening to the audio episodes and am really enjoying the video versions. I did not intend to deep dive into fae and folklore this summer, yet here I am! Cheers from Pittsburgh in the States 🥂✨ Thanks, Jo!

This is a great podcast. I have been interested in modern fairy sightings for a while, but was not able to find much until now. Great episode :)

A stimulating, provocative conversation! Two passing remarks (which really only glance off the substance of the dialogue): 1) Otto's Neokantian perspective must be emphasized; the Holy or Numinous is not "real" but _transcendental_, a capacity for experience in the human being that renders religious experience possible. 2) The discussion of 'person' is very thought-provocative: how the concept relates to empathy and compassion or their opposite (e.g., granting geographical features, such as a river, legal personhood, or how they possessed personhood on pre/non/modern cultures) or especially in relation to the word's etymology, which is mask (literally that which is spoken through)!

I wonder if the Welsh expression translated as "Spirits of the air" (@13:00...) is as evasive as the English, which is on the one hand tautological (spiritus is breath or air), and while on the other 'air' could as easily denote song or melody (namely what the spirits were dancing to) as atmosphere. Such a slippery answer to the witness' question were it present in the Welsh would hardly be inconsistent with the wit of the Good Folk...
@themodernfairysightingspod84213 жыл бұрын
very good point Bryan and yes I agree with the idea of the 'air' being represented by their dancing. Indeed, most mischievous and in keeping with their wit! Thank you for watching and commenting.

Thank you. I'd love to hear about these and I'm sure Jack would too. He produced a great seminar on the folklore of the Tanat Valley here (and described his own family's experiences): kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKfReINpm9GLq9k I'd be interested to hear your encounters. I have also experienced what I think were ghosts, but nothing visual. It was an extreme change in atmospheric temperature, and electrical appliances going on and off, inexplicably.

I have experienced feelings, heard sounds and in natural and remote environments. I think these things maybe only happen to those who have a sensitivity to this phenomenon.

Are fairy experiences all created by social constructions? My experiences say that it's a mixture of 'top down' expectations and the bottom up' reality of other dimensions. We can't usually interact with anything unless we have a preconceived idea, a frame of reference. Yet, when I work with elementals or Nature, for example, I learn new things constantly. Things I wouldn't have expected, so there must be another dimension out there for us to discover. Although the way it reveals itself to us can only be through our human concepts.

I believe there is work being done with elemental beings in machinery, specifically equipment used for producing anthroposophical medicines in Switzerland.

Caves and woodlands sound such wonderful and peaceful places to live in. I agree that undisturbed environments tend to contain these entities. Its not surprising that Dr Jack had this experiences in more dated houses as these entities live for thousands of years in beautiful rural environment outside towns and cities such as farms, villages and hamlets. I don't think rural landscapes will ever disappear completely. Humans need agriculture to survive. Technology is just a phase. Jo you are right about sensing familiarity when meeting strangers. It sounds like De ja vu in psychology which has no connection to pathological disorders but even if it did I personally don't think it would undermine the experiences. In fact Carl Jung was also a sensitive person that explored the unconscious mind and linked it to Deja vu, mysticism and archetypes. I agree with Dr Jack about all four concepts but I would also include the way our human brain and memory stores are wired that create these experiences and mythical archetypes which are passed down from generations but as he says there is more to it than that on a deeper level of instinct. Jo I can relate to the story you told of the hybrid wolf that showed its sharp teeth and growled at the men because that happened to me too. I like Dr Jack's subdued dark lighting. The diagonal lines of the book shelves lead the viewers eyes towards him and the books calm any fear of darkness by translating them as metaphors for knowledge and calmness like one experiences in a library or the woodlands. So not surprisingly library book shelves are traditionally associated with wood because they are made of them. This makes me wonder how nice it would be to see an episode filmed in a library or woodlands with dimly muted subdued lighting to create this calm soothing effect.

Many who witness fairy folk will have, in past incarnations, been members of those groups whom they now suddenly see. That's my theory.
