If we had kept our own stores, banks, hotels, restaurants, schools and so on, we could negate this behavior by not giving our money. Our current situation causes us to have to go to other stores and beg for good treatment.

Thank you so much dr. Joy for telling your story. In the black community they think people your complexion have some kind of light skin privilege. If you have any hue of brown you are going to be discriminated. But let the black community tell it, Dr. Joy has "light skin privilege" YOU HAVE TO BE WHITE PRESENTING! My point, black people don't you ever tell black people with caramel complexion ever again and say we have "light skinned privilege"! I will always cuss you out!🤬

Hate is Not taught. Hate is their nature. Hate is what they are at their core. All over the world and throughout history they have shown the world who and what they are. Those who refuse to see the truth are in denial.

@Santez Wheat - Unfortunately science would disagree with you. If you took a bunch of white babies and raised them in completely different environments, then they would only know what they were taught. Problem this goes back hundreds of years so it's ingrained in many. Civil Rights Movement changed laws but never did anything to research or change the mindset that let it happen in the 1st place. They thought after that generation died, it would fade, wrong! Its part of society, takes more than changing laws. Most children will have formed their beliefs about most things by age 10. That's scary.

The black community needs to take notice. Dr. Joy is a complexion that has been accused of getting " light-skinned privilege" . Do not ever come for people who have her complexion ever again after hearing this story.

Every major popular American musical genre has been pioneered from the minds of the black race. Just think doo wop, folk, jazz, bebop, swing, blues, ragtime, scat, funk, soul, disco, rock & roll, hip-hop, R&B, pop, spoken word, gospel, reggae, dance hall, salsa music, punk rock, country music, & even classical music, seeing that Joseph Boulogne Chavalier de Saint Georges' work was stunning (you can hear hints of his work in Mozart's creations, i.e. heis thought to have "quoted" a melodic line from one of Saint-Georges’s violin concertos in his Symphonie Concertante in E-flat Major).

That was your sister! Too bad white privilege doesnt think like this 99% of the time. I wouldntve given a damn if I was the angry Black face. Do I not have the right to be upset. Its about power, resources & limited competition with them. Speaking of competition, I would've left that stuff there & went elsewhere, never to return!

I would think if you are in line at a grocery store and the cashier doesn't ask for an I.D. from your sister-in-law, she would know that she couldn't ask for an I.D. from you. She would be risking her job by doing something blatantly discriminatory. I would think if she did ask, you wouldn't give it to her, and ask to see the manager. That is what I would do in such a situation. The store could be sued for such an act.

I agree that in certain cases like these white privilege is a thing but what I don't like is when people use this as a stick to beat you with and shut down all arguments. There's nothing that pisses me off more than when people tell me to "check my privilege" every time I try to get into a discussion or debate about racial issues. OK I get it, I have certain advantages in the world but that doesn't mean I should just shut the fuck up and believe whatever I'm told blindly without any critical thinking or debate.
