Dr Laura Petrella - High-grade gold and colloids

Metals are traditionally assumed to be transported as aqueous species dissolved in solutions. Increasing evidences suggest that metal could also be carried as solid nanoparticles in suspension (or colloids) in hydrothermal solutions. Our results demonstrate that metal nanoparticles are a common feature in hydrothermal gold deposits and probably play an important role in forming mineralisation.
