Finally, some dedication to dr mario. I honestly think that doc is just another mario brother that chose his own path at being a doctor, hence the mario in dr mario being his family name. However, this would mean that dr mario world isnt really canon because it uses the characters' names. Nor dr luigi.

I like the fact that a character like Mario would never be created nowadays, he's a product of the 1980s context. His first design as a carpenter was based on the context of the game (Donkey Kong) with the cap and the huge mustache being just so the sprite would me more recognizable. Then based on the limitations of technology and how they could represent people, Mario was used again in other games with other jobs (demolition worker in Wrecking Crew, plumber in Mario Bros.) and finally a super hero? retaining the same design in Super Mario Bros. With the abstraction of the technology at the time it was acceptable. Dr.Mario is like the last iteration of this tendency even though there was no need for that anymore considering his sprite was large enough to not need to be Mario and just happened to spawn a succesful franchise.

Dr. Mario is his own person separate from Mario. In the manga they are different people!
