my biggest tip was integrating what members in the military do(if they still wear steal toed leather boots) is making sure the ball of your foot fits nicely in the shoe for sizing, and lacing up your boots so the string at the top is under the side flaps to ensure tight lacing. my first time wearing my boots i wore them to walk around candy cane lane-which is going to a neighborhood that has christmas lights here in the states- and i was surprised my feet didn't hurt at all. the more i wear them, the more i'm able to wear thicker socks for winter

Two Tips for breaking in boots (in general) from my family and a nice lady at the shoes store: -if you feel a heat of sorts in a certain area (probably at the heel or outside of the foot) it’s from friction and you’re probably getting a lister or going to get one there -a lot of shoe stores sells these really really thick socks. Mine are from the Wolverine brand, they’re gray wool I think. Fricking lifesavers.

@rebeccarosexo4 жыл бұрын
Helin‘s Suga did you get them true to size or did you size down? they sound like they may be too big for you! Consider an insole or some thick doc socks! I would also purchase dubbin to put inside the shoe to help break it in. If this fails, try and sell them on Depop and get the size down maybe. I am a UK size 6 and I wear a UK size 5 in all my docs
@Lin-kk5be4 жыл бұрын
Rebecca Rose I have a problem with sizing most of the time...I am a European 39/40. 40 is too big most of the time 39 always too small too. I really hate it...the docs are pretty loose on my feet but when I try to wear thick socks the heel rubs worse, so maybe insoles are a better solution but I fear my foot will get heightened & my heel will get closer to the rubbing point (tighter). Maybe I should try at least.

i remember with my pascals i packed them with moist newspaper-paper and left them overnight, for me that did the trick! ive always had trouble finding cool shoes that go with my high arches, but this worked for me. also, the vegan docs are basically plastic (vegan leather bby) so theyre really tough to break in. id suggest just sizing up amd wearing some thick socks with them i guess. i also suggest conditioning them (with vegan leather conditioner obviously) to soften them up a bit, softening them enough should make them a bit more stretchy (:

Here's a tip that has worked for me in breaking in Dr. Martens boots (and any other types of boots) without ruining the leather: upon unpacking the boots, remove the laces, and then use a small heater or a hair dryer on each boot for a few minutes. This softens up the leather. Next, DRENCH the boot with mink oil. I also use mink oil on the inside of the boot, but not on the in-sole. Yes, this will get your socks initially a bit oily, but it's worth it. You can easily wash the socks. Anyway, rub the mink oil all throughout the boot and on the inside no farther than the ankle. And then wipe the boot down w/ a cloth or a paper towel. Wipe the oil as much as you can. After you're satisfied, turn on the heater/hair dryer for a few minutes. Now Do this entire process for the other boot. After it's all said and done, wear the boots first around the house starting w/about an hour, or more if you are able. Next day, repeat the procedure for the boots. After you dry them, wear them out/around the house. I do this a few more times while wearing them throughout the week. By the end of the first week, the mink oil will have softened up your boots profusely. If you wish, you can only do one boot and leave the other alone and see the difference in softness. This works for other types and brands of boots, as well. It will definitely save some skin off your feet. Try it. Cleaning the boots....I'm like you; I don't usually baby any of my boots. I would just suggest using a horsehair brush to brush the dirt off them every week, if you wear them daily like I do. Mink oil is good too (see above). P.S.: ALWAYS USE SHOE TREES/BOOT TREES FOR WHEN YOU'RE NOT WEARING YOUR DOCS.

Omg amazing! I love your break in process!! So helpful!!

@@inthewanderyears , I really dig this video. I am a fanatic "boot guy" and a gigantic fan of and owner of Red Wing boots. While they are constructed differently and at different price points than Dr. Martens boots, I decided to finally give in and join the cool/hip crowd so I just bought my first pair of Dr. Martens boots. It's a very cool ankle pair of Archive 101 Arc Leather Combat Boots. I have heard from people that Docs are notoriously hard to break in, but speaking as an owner of several Red Wing boots, I can tell you that NOTHING is harder to break in than new Red Wings. So....I hope people who have a hard time w/their Docs try my method--it really works to soften up that leather. And Docs leather is thinner than Red Wing, so warming it up and keeping it oiled with mink oil whilst wearing the boots that first week should be much much easier on the foot. Thanks for this video; I came across it on my research of Doc boots.

Wow so many different opinions in these comments! I'm usually a size 5.5 (UK) but since docs don't have half sizes I tried a 5 and a 6. The 5 was extremely small and the 6 was quite big which is the one I ended up buying. I wear them with fluffy socks so they fit a bit better and I haven't had any problems with them, at least not yet. I've had them for about a week and have been wearing them for 4+ hours a day and they are so comfortable! I think mainly because they're a bit on the bigger side, my heels aren't constantly rubbing against the hard leather, neither are my toes. So far they've been great shoes and definitely worth the price!

@@sabrinagarcia08 you should definitely go see a orthopedic surgeon who specializes in that do not go to a podiatrist plus the arthritis could be caused by the flat feet that’s why my surgeon was so quick to do it because I was already seeing other issues due to my feet

buy them from solaris! docs switched manufacturers and fall apart, but solaris was the original company that made them and they still hold up like they used to. i fucked up and didn't do that, my Jadens had the zipper split, the inside wear out, after only a year and it's very common for the soles to come off for a lot of styles.

Jadon Maxes are even taller, great for a short girl like me haha, also another tip I saw if you don’t have felt, is to put a padded sanitary towel in the back of the shoes as a cushion instead, which helped sooooo much when I was breaking in jadon hi, those gave me the worst blisters I’ve ever had (even the 1461s were easy to break in in comparison)

I love that you're still responding to comments to this very day. I know that must take a lot of effort :) Also, question... My Jadons that I bought about a week ago are really shredding my heels/achilles tendons. How long did it take you to fully break your Jadons in, especially the heel area?
@inthewanderyears4 жыл бұрын
Of course!! They did the same to me in the beginning. Took about a week or so but just wear them for short periods and they should be okay! If you get crazy blisters etc, wait until they are healed to wear them again!

Utility and comfort. Broken in 1460s are the best everyday shoe I've had. I plan to never go without at least one decent pair for the rest of my life. Even the sizing... NOTHING fits _ME_ as well as a 1460 in UK9/US10 (after break in)... My theory is that they are basically a 10.25. But for me, there is never a need to try on 1460s. I can buy online and they won't fit well, they will fit PERFECTLY. Just lucky in how I'm sized I guess. Regardless of why, for whatever the reason... Broken in 1460s are the best fit, most comfortable long term, and longest lasting shoe I've had. I can do a long hike in the woods in them, I can run a few miles in them if I must (not my first choice of running shoe, but shockingly decent at the job, far better than most would think), I can wear them with a suit at a wedding, or on stage playing guitar... And I've done both a few times each. To me, the 1460 is perfection. That said, they are not for everyone. It's a distinct fit (that works perfectly for me, could be hell for other feet), and a unique style you'll love or hate. Shrug. For me they are perfect, that's all that matters to me. My best break in tip currently is use wonder balsam, in fact abuse it. I spent HOURS rubbing coat after coat of the stuff in on newest pair. Got the leather softer than I've ever had it.... They were broken in by 2 miles. HOURS to break the leather in instead of weeks or days. Ohh and they look incredible after than much work and elbow grease with the wonder balsam

I got my doc on impulse when I was shoe shopping because I’ve always wanted them. I made the mistake of sizing up with the classics to be safe because I didn’t want to spend over one hundred dollars only for me to grow out of them. The problem is my shoe size hasn’t changed in years so I have no idea why I’d did that and they are a little big. I got a size ten and I’m a 9 1/2
