So... are we not going to talk about the fact that the explosion was the result of Bond overloading an atomic reactor? That explosion would basically have been a steam explosion like Chernobyl's, and resulted in radioactive material being blasted into the atmosphere. It would have irradiated the entire island and a large portion of the Caribbean and Florida.
