Great video Richard! The thing my brain is still struggling with is, How is sexually explicit messages to a minor not illegal? Why did the Victim take it to twitch but not the cops? the reporting with anonymous sourcing confirms sexual explicit msgs. Hopefully this document can close the case.
@RoseD-ev8xu28 күн бұрын
Unfortunately the law is not nearly as strict on this as people think it is. It was reported 3 years after when the victim was likely over 18 already, there were no photographs, he never made active steps to meet her (even if he alluded to it) The statute of limitations for a misdemeanour (1 year) was already expired unless she was under 16 at the time of the incident. To still be in the statute of limitations they would have to charge him with a felony which is just very unlikely to happen in this case (additionally there was no history of criminal behaviour or sex crimes by the perpetrator which is a common reason to charge someone with a felony with wobbler charges like sexting). Additionally a lot of flirty/gross things said to a minor are not even illegal sadly.

The thing is that Doc is a character, and it's been performance art all this time. You must understand he is loathe to leave what he has, and wants a chance to finish things in character if, in fact, this is the last stream he ever does. He remembers how his last Twitch stream ended and doesn't want to let it go that way. The show must go on, and the curtain will go down on the character being who he is, outside of the reality of the situation.
@ggzii27 күн бұрын
Thing about Dr Disrespect, he had years of knowing that this would eventually come out, he clearly could have "Got ahead" of the news and apologised and spent years making amends. Instead, he hid it, tried to get huge deals, didn't change , then pretended he wanted a vacation its actually really shitty behaviour tbf ONTOP of the whole ACTUAL incident

Minor detail: the fact they said she was underage "in the State of California" tells you she was likely 16 or 17. Otherwise they wouldn't qualify it like that. (34 states have the age of consent at 16, and five have it 17. Doc lives in Cali and Twitch is in Cali, so it doesn't matter if she was in another state-once he asked her to meet at TwitchCon then it put the whole situation under Cali rules.)

I remember at the day of his ban (26th June 2020) that I couldn't help but link it to all of the other, for lack of a better term, 'Twitch MeToo' bannings and vanishings that were going on. As an example, 2 days prior to Doc's ban, probably the second biggest World of Warcraft streamer (behind Asmongold) was accused of being a pedo in a Twitlonger on June 24th, and then a few days after that he was accused of rape by a female streamer who visited him months prior. He was perma banned from Twitch on the 29th of June. What happened at the time was an insane chain reaction. Anyone who was around when this happened remembers it - every single day, often every few hours, there was another Twitlonger, it became absurd just how much of it there was. Which was the point ultimately - more people speaking up gives more people confidence to speak up, which snowballs. Anyways, the Doc being banned right in the middle of this was insanely suspicious. My immediate thought was that he must have done something serious with one of the women he cheated on his wife with and they'd behind the scenes reported him to Twitch, but it was so in the dark that it really could have been anything. In reality I was half right - he did do something serious with a person he wanted to cheat on his wife with, but it wasn't a woman, it was a child.

Another thing to note about Twitch in this situation: Doc's messages happened in 2017, when whispers was introduced. Cody said they could read these messages in plain text. That means it likely was something that Twitch knew from day 1 (and it's why whispers didn't go forward either). The ban only came in 2020, soon after Mixer went under and Ninja was again available for exclusivity contracts. Putting these pieces together does paint the picture that Twitch simply held onto these until it was convenient from them to cut him off. The optics of that aren't great, and I can see an Amazon-owned company choosing to protect their image instead of any vulnerable individual. It doesn't help that_now_ there's a lot of employees coming forward to say how twitch was this selfless and righteous company by cutting him off. It reeks of damage control. It's a good thing that one creep was finally ousted, but I think Twitch does more than they let on to enable him and many others. I hope they start being held accountable for the danger they pose too.

@@RoseD-ev8xu I don't have it on my account, maybe it's disabled, but every article about it says something in the line of "when twitch whispers were still active". I don't use that platform much though, so idk. Might be wrong on this one. But my point is simple: If messages were never encrypted, and we know that they monitored these messages actively (see 1:53:30). Do you think it's a stretch to say that they either knew or should have known without a report in the first place? Have they truly acted in a timely manner and did everything in their power to protect vulnerable users?

Yeah it doesn`t make sense for twitch to cover it up if they got rid of him anyway. What do you gain out of this situation, you look really bad when it comes out which it did, and you lost one of your biggest streamer. Wouldn`t it make more sense showing everybody "Look we care about stuff like this, we pay attention, we value such things and doing right over money!" With all the sh"§% twitch already gets for supporting hot tub on a basically not age restricted platform. It would have been a perfect opportunity to look good. The only thing I can imagine is this incident wasn`t reported by the minor in question but twitch staff was monitoring private conversations? I don`t know what the laws are regarding this, can you sniff arround in whisper messages (private conversations) without a reason/suspicion? I know companys have a responsibilty for what is going on their platforms but I can`t imagine they are allowed to listening in on private conversations as they please and without a good reason.
