Listen to every word this person says and how much they care about being a force for good for people, combatting the great evil plaguing their games and the industry. All the while, they get in bed with the Saudis. It would have been whatever if they just said these are the steps we're taking to stop harassment and just that, but they go on and on about with this self-righteous mindset and notion that they are indeed taking amazing steps on having people care. They are "Defeating Evil" in their own words. Again, I would not have a problem if they just said we're curbing the harassment this way, and here are some reasons why we chose these steps. It's how they're propping themselves up on these arrogant pedestals of virtue and tooting their own horns of being paragons of humanity and good morals while doing so. It's the hypocrisy that's shitty. Now, if you read my comment, I've never said that taking steps against harassment and toxicity is a bad thing, so I don't know where you got that idea from. I was speaking out about their hypocrisy, but if I had to speak about the decisions they've taken, I don't really agree with the methods they're using. It's always taking away more and more freedoms and choices of the people while they police and decide this is how it should be. There are such things as a mute button and other ways people can ignore and move on. This is a complete extreme that goes into slowly silencing everyone rather than promoting actual good communication. For Riot, if people say nothing in games, then there is no toxicity and harassment. There are better ways to go about it, such as providing players with more choices rather than restricting them further. We don't game to be policed or to be restrained. We game to do shit we can't do in real life, that's the whole point. We can mute those we dislike unlike in real life, we can cast fire spells and burn down a person unlike in real life, we aim guns and shot them in the head. All of this is counter to what gaming is supposed to be. Just let people mute them or put in better mechanics that incentivize good behavior(I think one game, possibly Paragon had a pretty good system that rewarded being good teammates. It was well-received, but what a shame that game was shut down by a cruel publisher). There are way better avenues to go about it but they chose to be Big Brother.

The patent you are referring to is well known in the industry and is even scarier than you have described. Yes it had the technology to drive addiction but to expand on the skin/power gains, if you looked at an item in the shop for a period of time it could put you in a game with a player using that purchased item who was also a better player than the lobby and have them own you using it. The amount of uses for this particular patent to manipulate players is frightening, but of course EA claims that they've definitely never used the thing that would make them more money.

As much as I dislike how companies enforce "non-toxic behavior" (They tend to just use # of reports per game and ban you w/o manual review if it goes over a value, making literal children judge, jury, and executioner), people who want to mute everything are horrible to play with. I don't know why players in League aren't up in arms about how disproportionately chat is punished (both in harshness and number) compared to that of physical offenses. It makes absolutely no sense when you think about the moral/immoral weight behind the actions - and people saying that they can't detect physical offenses as easily is such a stupid excuse in the modern day when we know Riot have all insane amounts of data. Also, what is the point in the mute function? You can legitimately say 'fuck' or 'fuck you' in party chat with only yourself in it, so where no one can see it, and still get chat restricted and earn a short ranked ban. It's insane and I think there's some weird manipulation behind it all based around money more than some bullshit about trying to make the world a better place.

I always enjoy videos where Richard calls out Riot's nonsense. I feel a sense of validation for the feelings I've had because of things Riot has done to me personally and in a strange way I get a bit of closure knowing that I'm not the only one that feels this way, and I'm not talking about banned accounts on a game. I have been calling Riot out on many things over the years since the beta of LoL, but my most egregious crimes were pointing out the flaws in the Tribunal system back in the day, and this narrative that 'just muting people' solves problems combined with their constant grandstanding about how it 'fixes' everything. It doesn't, and it never will, and it is not Riot's job to do so. Unfortunately they feel they must and if you speak out against that narrative or point out some of the hypocrisies that Riot has perpetrated over the years, you're done. They are a horrendously vindictive company, and I'm not the only one whom when they were young wanted to be a journalist and content creator that Riot singled out to end that career early on, no matter how reasonable or decent you are when dealing with them. If you point out that you can't mute someone's behaviors in-game and you can't stop someone who's had a bad day going off and intentionally losing you a game, even though it's not the end of the world because it is a game after all, they will still hold that against you indefinitely and in perpetuity. It's insane. I've subsequently been shadow banned from their Reddit and other sources for trying to discuss these issues, and Riot has gone out of their way to stifle what was a budding career as a content creator and a journalist. It's ancient history, but they have never once even apologized for this conduct and who knows. I could have been like Richard with a functional career. We will never know because Riot is a vindictive company and went out of their way to stop that from happening. What I absolutely despise, however, is Riot's virtue signaling, half-baked, and sometimes very invasive methods for 'dealing' with these issues. Methods that never have and never will work. Then they release these videos after horrible PR press (like the disastrous roll out of Vanguard), and expect us to swallow. I'm so glad I stepped away from League and Riot as a whole. They've been a stain on the industry since their inception. I wish the entire world would just boycott Riot as a whole, and especially their "DotA for kids we definitely don't exploit" knockoff, League. I also think we should never forget that Marc Merrill was so self-conscious and egotistical that he had OnlyJaximus boost him for clout while bragging about it on Twitter in season two. Never forget. You did good by picking Drexxin, Richard. He's been a friend of mine since the olden days of League, and he's always been solid.

Crazy that they admitted openly to retaining at least several months of complete voice recordings of everyone from every match in an official announcement. Everyone wants to go back to the old days until it's their mom's romantic activities being discussed and then suddenly it's report report report. But that's not the whole problem, the problem in part is that companies have turned the report system into a game a game within the game. Get someone to respond to your mild banter, until they respond in a way to get them temp banned. It's funny I was playing LoL typed all of about 5 sentences and suddenly after finishing the game I was muted for a week and also prevented from playing ranked (the only mode I play) until I finished 5 games in normals, which might as well be a prison sentence...
