There's a series of novels considered canon and also a series of novellas, smaller stories combined together into one book form. One of these stories is called Hermiod's Last Mission and focuses on Hermiod is he is assigned at the request of Thor to accompany Sheppard's team on a mission which he does using an adaptation of the Communications Stones. The story takes place in early season 3 after the failed alliance with Michael and they are investigating a hive ship found in the void that turns out to be a third part of Michael's alliance. The story is mainly from Hermiod's perspective and its shown that his true mission is to more closely observe the humans to determine if they are worthy of the Asgard Legacy. After dealing with an Ancient experiment gone wrong, it ends up being Hermiod's report to the Asgard High Council that's the deciding factor in the Asgard giving humanity the computer core. Hermiod ultimately recognizes that the humans will use it in both war and peace and that is the dual nature of humanity. The story ends with Hermiod telling the Council that the humans are the Fifth Race and their worthy inheritors.

how do we know which are canon as which is not,. The thing i dont like is how they contradict the show's canon. Like how they have a story that the wraith were created, just mere 900 years before the atlantian war, While in the show it stated many times, they were around for hundreds of thousands of year by todd, and it made more sense that wraith evolved around 5million years(the evolution of humans.

Actually in the show they had a theory about the Wraith's creation. In The Lost Beckett said that his theory was wrong because there simply hadn't been enough time for that sort of evolution as it would take millions of years. In the show, Todd never said how long they were around. He mentioned he was around 10,000 years ago when the Attero Device was used but he never said anything about how long the Wraith have been around. I've been rewatching the show recently and there's nothing like that in there. It makes sense that the Wraith were an Ancient experiment gone wrong for a number of reasons. First, since the Replicators were the same. Second, if the Iratus Bug evolved into the Wraith naturally, why are the Iratus Bugs still around??? When something evolves into something else, usually the original is gone and the new evolution takes its place completely.

In the Hermiod's Last Mission short story, Hermiod is surprised when Teyla offers to accompany him as Novak is the only member of the Daedalus crew that volunteers to spend time with him. In the short story, its noted that Novak is awkwardly affectionate towards Hermiod but he finds it vexing at times.

They did defeat the ancients. Sure the ancients were overconfident and the wraith had superior numbers but still, you don't just defeat the ancients without some serious tech skills on your side. That and the wraith culling beams are probably at the very peast distant cousins of the Asgard transporters, if not close relatives

I wish they would made this alliance more prominent in later seasons. Every 304 having an asgard babysitting humans with their technology, secret Asgard embassy on Earth and representative on Atlantis since Asgard would probably like to see what is happening with the last city of their Ancient allies. Hell, I wold watch the shit out of spin off show about Tau'ri millitary base in Ida galaxy giving their race nearing extinction helping hand with infantry, maybe against slowly growing threat of few replicators left in there or even a new enemy who had to remain in hidding until replicators were defeated. Even if they still commited to wiping Asgard out it could be a big plot twist where later seasons would require them adapt to new situation without remaining Asgard having their back. All of this would make their sacrifice more meaningful, impactful and them giving us their technology would feel more earned.

My interpretation of Novak's and Hermiod's interactions is that it seems that due to the Asgard policy with not sharing weapons tech or any tech used in a such a context, and the fact that they are trying to weaponize Asgard beaming technology, Novak assumes Hermiod would object and she would have to convince him. However he does not ever actually voice any such objections; I think he was OK with it from the get go. My favorite example of this is when Novak puts words in Hermiod's mouth by telling Caldwell "he's not happy" about what they're doing. (Fortunately Caldwell doesn't care at the moment.) I'm actually surprised I read a lot of people seem to think Hermiod actually does object.

Plus a nuclear detonation in the vacuum of space might not be nearly as effective as within an atmosphere.

Thats not it at all. Infact humanity so very nearly DIDNT get access to asgard tech because we are so inherently violent. He literally finds it disgusting to use asgard tech for violence (and herm is one of the more.... open minded asgard). But hes also smart enough to know that sometimes bad things gotta happen to bad people for good. And even asgard agree that wraith are pretty bad

i thought they couldn't beam thru shields? did they lower their shields to beam the warheads? and do they have to beam the warheads into the ships? the warhead has rockets so why not just beam them close to the enemy and let the rocket engine do the rest

Wraith ships rely on the thickness of and regenerative nature of their biofactured ships hull, they don't use shields as such. They did end up using some sort of high energy field to block the transporters, but it's not a shield either, just a jammer.

i meant their shields. not the wraith's. the daedalus would of had to lower it's shields no? and when they first engaged the wraith the daedalus was happy to fire the warheads normally w/o any beaming. so it stands to reason that they thought hitting the outside of the hive ship with the warheads would be effective. the problem was that the warheads were being intercepted by the darts. isn't that what they are trying to get around by beaming? not really beaming it into the middle of the hive ship

It's is hard to believe the Wraith were able to devise a counter measure so quickly .. Now if they simply raised their shields blocking the beaming tech that could be believable .. Earth ships have to lower shields to use beaming transporters

Wraith ships don't HAVE shields. Their blocking measure was basically a jamming signal that prevented them from locking on. They called it a Jamming Code for some reason though.

As mentioned above no shields for wraith and this wasn't the first time they faced off against asgard tech. So they most likely had that jamming signal aboard but offline. In the case of the battle above Lantea there was no time for the wraith to recognize and react to what was happening. The second time when the twelve hives were attacked. They took out i think 2 ships. The other 10 and their escorts had ample time to realize what was going on and activate that old jamming signal that they devised against the asgard circa 10.000 years ago.
