@3:34 I would have to disagree there, I think it should be translated according to our modern conceptions and textual context about what a slave is in comparison to what a servant is. The difference between a slave and a servant, is that slave is held against his will opposed to servant. If the passage of text makes the context clear about who is a slave and who is a servant then it should be translated accordingly. Or better learn to read scripture in its original language. I think this shows that the Word is unchanging, it's society which is changing and we shouldn't have to adapt the Bible to fit the society. Thanks for the helpful video as the slavery argument often comes up from atheists.

Exactly! We shouldn’t let the ideas of some rogue Christians in the 1800’s change the way we read the Bible. It clearly says that the slave trade is legal to participate in (as long as you buy the slave and don’t kidnap them - Leviticus 25:44-46). So, the fact that America has abolished slavery shows just how far we’ve drifted from “biblical values!” Oh wait...

Hear God's Word Was just responding to your comment, not the video. The tap dancing around Leviticus 25 in the video can’t erase what the text CLEARLY says. Israelites could BUY slaves from the nations around them. Those slaves were property, and were bequeathed to their children as an inheritance, just like land or any other piece of property. Buying a slave is participating in the slave trade.

@@Iamwrongbut then you've missed the context friend. You're also confusing Israelite laws and Christians. A Christian and and Israelite aren't the same thing. Consider how things like circumcision and food laws don't also apply to Christians do they?
