First, Tamberla Perry did an EXCELLENT job with this. Serious props. Secondly, I think the script writers did a great job here. Not excusing his actions at all, I appreciate that Morris was man enough to not lie, not deflect, and not squirm. He knew he eff'd up and took responsibility for it from the get-go.

He didn't take responsibility from the get-go because clearly he told her it was only once. He was forced to finally admit the truth when she asked him if it was more than once, meaning he was NOT honest at first. But yes the writers of the show and the acting is amazing!

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here: Dr. Pierce never should've asked if they slept together more than once. There was no point in Carol asking if he was in love with the side chick. And since he was in love with her, he stopped using protection, which means he put Carol at risk to catch an STD. As humans, we want answers. We deserve an explanation. We want honesty until we get it. She only should've focused on him taking their daughter out to lunch with the mistress. Lesson: don't ask questions you don't want the answer to.
