Nerve/Pressure point manipulation and activation is a legit part of some martial arts, such as certain Chinese kung fu systems. It's also a subsystem incorporated into styles such as some historically practiced in Okinawa/Japan, US and other places. It may be more difficult to cause yourself as high a level of pain as someone else doing it to you, plus you can't do the seizing, locking, control, or other techniques on yourself, but you have felt a level of pain to see there's something to it. That median nerve is vulnerable(depending on the person) in other spots up the arm and there are many other areas where nerves can be used in a defense/fight situation. 'Pain Compliance' was part of some police departments' training a few years, ago, as a less-than-lethal physical control method but was dropped by some when people called it 'torture'. One thing that's really captured me with this movie series is the nice use of fighting techniques they had Denzel use. From empty-hand to weapons to using available items - sometimes available from his opponents. I know it's choreographed, but I think his coordinator did an excellent job with the fight scenes and training Denzel and stunt doubles. I'm still coming back to this and other scenes in both to see the great acting AND bad guys get wrecked with authority.

@@theusher2893Yep, agreed. I like most of the fights, escapes, etc. in the EQs, mainly because they're a more entertaining and a LOT more inclusive of stuff that is, or could be, more realistic and mostly doesn't 'jump-the-shark'. A lot of what Denzel or his double execute are martial arts and fighting techiques and systems that have been around for very long times, but most don't get to see, especially during the last few decades of commercialization and loss, elimination, or changing of what was. Fewer people know, or learn, what used to be those types of things used in EQ, but I bet your GB friend learned or taught some, that it's been in their training(CQC), and he probably wouldn't hesitate to use something that happens to be available if necessary.

Denzel being the great actor he is could carry it out under a different name snd it would still be a success. But i will still go to see each Equalizer movie he does. This is different from Tom Cruise Mission Impossible which is not even close to the original and really needs a name change.

To me, the original _equalizer_ will always be edward woodward. Denzel's portrayal of the equalizer- - I should say his writers' portrayal- - is one of grievous overkill Granted, edward woodward's robert mccall is an aging retired MI5 agent who typically showdowned solitary enemies. No survivors. Whereas denzel's robert mccall is a younger former marine & sniper who typically showdowns against enemies 5 or more at a time. Also no survivors Everyone has their preferred hero, & the actor/ actress who they will forever remember as that hero. In like manner, I look at roger moore as the original james bond, even though sean connery did it first

Love how he watches the life empty from their eyes. Beautiful.

I like how he isn’t much of a cusser. He’s only trying to be polite first, then he gets triggered by thugs.

that smile while he was evading the knife was legit scary and badass

Did wine bottle guy... die?

The wasted wine broke his heart and he died that night. RIPperoni.

Probably, wine bottles are pretty dense, especially filled. Otherwise, he's got a decent concussion.

It's impressive how hard a bottle can be, used to the temple.

That's one hard wine bottle. Didn't even break over the guy's head

They don't usually break when they're full or have liquid in them, sadly I know this from experience.
