In this episode of the Habits & Health podcast, host Tony Winyard welcomes Dr. Sarah Myhill to discuss the Paleo-Ketogenic diet and its benefits for overall health. Dr. Myhill shares her belief that traditional medical education can be more of a brainwashing rather than a true education. She encourages listeners to educate themselves and not solely rely on traditional schooling.
Dr. Myhill dives into the addictive nature of sugars and junk foods, explaining how they can lead to various health issues such as metabolic syndrome, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, and dementia. She emphasises the importance of regulating blood sugar levels and discusses how a low-carbohydrate, ketogenic diet can help achieve this.
The conversation evolves to focus on mitochondria, the powerhouses of our cells, and their role in health conditions. Dr. Myhill explains how she developed a mitochondrial function test and found a correlation between mitochondrial function and chronic fatigue syndrome. She conducted studies that demonstrated improvement in mitochondrial function in patients with this condition.
The discussion takes an interesting turn as Dr. Myhill shares her views on vaccinations. She believes that vaccines switch on autoimmunity and argues that if someone has a healthy immune system, vaccines may not be necessary. She emphasizes the importance of acute febrile illnesses in childhood and their role in training the immune system to protect against diseases later in life.
Dr. Myhill shares details about her book, "Green Mother," which focuses on ecological medicine applied to preconception care, pregnancy, birth, child rearing, weaning, and sleep. She highlights the benefits of following a paleo-ketogenic diet for children and how it can lead to stable blood sugar levels, better sleep, and a stronger immune system.
Throughout the episode, Dr. Myhill emphasises the importance of empowering individuals to take control of their health and heal themselves. She offers resources on her website, conducts workshops, and shares her knowledge freely.
Dr Myhill's bio:
Dr. Sarah Myhill is a renowned doctor who has made a significant impact on the healthcare industry. She has spent her career focusing on cutting-edge research and innovative treatments, particularly in the field of chronic fatigue syndrome. 00:06:21 Chronic fatigue syndrome is a misunderstood condition in the western world. The author shares their experiences with patients who have developed the condition, including farmers exposed to toxic chemicals, Gulf War veterans, and women with silicone breast implants. The author breaks down the clinical picture of chronic fatigue syndrome and ME, emphasising the importance of looking at energy delivery mechanisms, such as diet and gut function. They highlight the negative effects of sugars and carbohydrates on gut health and the toxins produced by bacteria and yeast in the gut. Cleaning up the gut can lead to improved energy levels in the body.

Dr. Myhill, thank you for sharing this essential information regarding healing and wellness from some of our most damaging illnesses! You are such an angel and icon of our time. My mother has dementia and I love that you quote Dr. Bredesen (in other interviews and videos) and his success in helping his patients recover from their Alzheimer’s and dementia by addressing their pathology as type 3 diabetes. you have sacrificed so much I imagine as conventional medicine shuns your reasonable and accurate findings! May those who deserve you…..listen and be rewarded! One million thank yous!

My dad died of complications from ' Alzheimer's' in 2009 and yet the doctors also said they had diagnosed him with Type 2 diabetes , then the diabetes disappeared ? He had 'Alzheimers ' for 16 years.

Love Dr Myhill. I have had sh*t service from doctors over the years with M.E. and Hashi's.😢 Cons 'gaslighting'. 'You're not ill, you're mad.' I now know I have mercury and lead poisoning which I am about to address with a functional doctor and SMART dentist. It's all about the mitos!

I'm an ME/CFS sufferer for three years, presumably brought on by an early case of covid. Of course I've been looking for relief all this time. I am now two weeks into keto/paleo and hoping to find improvement here - thank you for all your information! And by the way, my sister-in-law lived in Carson's house where she wrote Silent Spring! Small world! Cheers.

Good luck with your health. Diet is definitely going to help. If it doesn't take care of all Chronic fatigue issues, yo might want to look into Toy Morrison's CFS coaching. He has a great success rate with the CFS cohort.

@@pritamkumarbehera1294 Wow - long time! Good work! Hanging in there, thanks. Vocal cords still shot so actually going to spend a month isolating in FL to see if it helps that and any other symptoms. Keto helped energy but diminishing returns. In a trough now, but hopeful, just shy of 4 years in! You??

I too have been increasingly suffering with chronic fatigue over the last nearly 4 years following an early double dose of covid, to the point where I took early retirement last year. Repeated visits and tests at my GPs were helpful in ruling out heart disease, but totally unhelpful otherwise, eventually I was diagnosed with a very mild form of asthma! Any mention of chronic fatigue or long covid by me was totally blanked. I only finally started getting support and making sense of what was going on when I found Dr Myhill's w website ànd read her book. She is an absolute hero. What a diamond.

I'm trying to get to eating meat again for the first time since 1987 when I was 9. I've never been vegan so it is illogical but I'm massively struggling to overcome what feels almost like a phobia as rationally I can understand why my body may well really need it. I've never been militant or judgemental of people eating properly reared animals but for myself I'm surprised how deep the resistance is. I keep listening to the benefits and find the idea of losing sugar and carbs (I've given up sugar before a couple of times) easier than putting meat in my mouth as it's so alien. I don't know if anyone has any tips or advice but I guess I'm going to have to wrestle with it myself.

Having a rough few days and still having to battle through coming to work. My issue is Hashimoto’s, no one seems interested in addressing this - just Medicate with Levo which doesn’t prevent the chronic issues associated with an autoimmune disease. Thank you Dr Myhill, you offer hope x

In other words populations on ketogenic diet should have the least risk of dementia....ever heard or the Tsimane people they have the least incidence of dementia ?? The high-calorie (2,433-2,738 kcal/day) Tsimane diet was characterized by high carbohydrate and protein intake, and low fat intake (64, 21 and 15 percent of the diet, respectively). Is it possible to go into ketosis on a 64% carbohydrates diet????

If you lived closer to me I would be over the moon! My GPs , particularly over the last few years , have proved to me , that they are willing to go with the flow , just to earn money....I have Fibromyalgia and eat fruit and yoghurt, plus sugar free museli, and wholemeal bread and butter, for breakfast . I am flooding my system with sugars and carbos, but I am a vegetarian and have been for 50 years.I don't want to eat fish or meat ...
