I think Nathan hit the nail on the head-we all want out independent vets back!!!!!!!! Cost has sky rocketed in pet ownership and I as a dog groomer find many clients struggling to pay out for expensive treatments for their pets without getting into debt!! This rarely ever happened within independent vet practices when I worked there years ago. Good luck guys-not that you need it esp with Mango in charge!!!!!! I’m only gutted I don’t live closer to the surgery but my vet is great so I’d never want to leave him either despite him being corporate

I’m really curious about the wording of “independent” vets. Aren’t all vet clinics privately owned independent practices? I’ve not had a dog in a long time, when my first one died in my arms after a terrible cancer diagnosis, and we knew she was suffering, I haven’t had the courage. But i think all of the vets in my small city are all independent businesses. So, can you explain what you mean? And I am asking honestly, I would really like to know

I started binge watching Vet on the Hill a couple of months ago and fell in love with Scott and his team’s adventures. Scott, I’m so sorry to hear about all of the challenges you have faced in recent times, and I hope that this new practice and these new adventures will bring so much healing and joy to your life. 1587?!? To think you were able to restore a building of this age in a year is amazing. There is no building that old in all of the United States, since 1587 is 30+ years prior to the arrival of the Pilgrims from Britain. Congratulations on this new endeavour.

Actually, there's a building in New Mexico dating from 1610 called the Palace of the Governors that predates the Pilgrims. It was constructed by the Spanish.

I know the vets at my baby’s practice have changed over the past 20+ years but they still take care of rescue animals and are not in for the money but the love of animals. That's the thing I hate about the States! No appreciation for old buildings, old trees or natural wonders that have stood the test of time. Sad and sometimes tragic the old well built buildings that are structurally sound being torn down to make way for less sturdy ones. And many times less visually appealing.

My dogs' vet is an independent country vet..... she knows my girls since they were pups. It means alot especially when you have to make the very hard decisions, as I had to recently. She does out of hours emergencies, she is so dedicated, I don't know how she sticks the pace, but she has a great team of nurses with her. Dr Scott I so wish there were more vets like you who aspire to independence rather than working for companies who see financial gain as the main inspiration. Where I live there are now no independent vets within a 30 mile radius and only one left that I know of within 40 miles. The big corporate companies have driven up prices because there is no competition and the few independents that did exist can't compete and have sold out. In turn it has caused insurance costs to rise and left people who dearly love their animals struggling to pay the mounting cost of caring for them. I hope your journey inspires other vets to strive for independence as I know they will be supported by the public who are fed up with having no choice and are crying out for vets like you.
