Who’s been out berry picking this summer? It’s a marvellous time of year for it and this piece by Gertrude Hamilton is the perfect ode.
She’s painted the currants and raspberries with watercolour on vintage-looking paper and, as Dr Sherwood mentions here, it seems to nod to more historic botanical art by artists such as 16th-century painter, Joris Hoefnagel.
This video is a golden oldie, recorded back in 2020 after Dr Sherwood’s retrospective at the Shirley Sherwood Gallery. Watch as she talks through Gertrude’s work and recalls how she came to acquire the charming little painting.
