Dr Shirley Sherwood Presents: 'Tricyrtis macranthopsis' by Raymond Booth.
This is one of the works you'll see at The Wonderful World of Water Plants next week - and it's a splendour to behold!
The Tricyrtis macranthopsis, coined the toad lily, is a spectacular plant that grows in waterfalls. Its magnificent yellow pendant flowers and glossy leaves flow downwards mirroring the shape of the fall and can withstand temperatures as low as -20°C.
Raymond certainly did the plant justice. He used oil paints, which helped him achieve vibrant, waxy colours and an overall, "punchy" form. It's so full of life, we can almost hear the surrounding waterfall and imagine the plant moving as water splatters onto the leaves...
Watch to find out more about Raymond and in particular, how his paintings of Japanese plants came to fruition.
