So true, when my daughter was in preschool or kindergarten they so-called tried to teach her to count from 1-15 ALL SCHOOL YEAR, the teacher literally gave up at the end of the year and tried convincing me she couldn’t do it, I took her home and worked with her for ONE WEEK and she got it, she was counting from 1-15, smh…..they will definitely try to set ur child up for failure…..she’s a high school graduate today no special ed.

As a parent that moved out of the city, the schools were one of main reasons for me and my wife. My story is different because my kids flourished. We picked a district that was a mix of kids instead of predominantly white. If parents have that as a choice I would suggest going that route. You do have to be mindful and aware of things in the schools. One of the best ways to insure fairness is for both parents to be involved. Let the teachers see you there. I learned that lesson the hard way because I work in the city and my wife was mainly the face the schools always saw for my 2 oldest. The baby, who is now 15 I’ve made myself way more available. It also helps a lot that our son is one of the academically gifted kids. Can’t hide, or make excuses when your child is a grade ahead in all advanced classes and has a gpa that is over 100. Some of his best teachers that helped and looked out for him were white. So be mindful of that. Not all of them are out to do us harm.

Strong points but there is no accountability for the parents. I think I mentioned in a prior video and I can only talk for some districts. Parents push for their kids to have IEPs more than the school or the teachers. This year a teacher felt that a student wasn’t ready to be promoted and he had an iep. The parent called the district office trying to get the teacher fired…. Garvey always said all systems are created to be manipulated. The school system is no different. Regardless of the terms special Ed and all of these classifications. If the “school team including the parents” use a village mentality a lot could be changed.

Oh no not my child , I know my child ! He or she wouldn’t do that! My brother was and I both played sports in high school, we were pretty good , with my brother going in to earn a a scholarship. We stood several feet above our single home mom , we were upper class man in high school. My mom sat down after a long days work and read to us, made us read to her on a nightly basis, to make sure we could phonetically code the words instead of memorization. She made us watch shows like super nova, National Geographic’s, and the electric company just to name a few. When we started high school, I chuckle now thinking about it. I thought that I was going to be slick and pick easy classes. Well my mother put a stop to that , and she had regular meetings with me and my brother’s school guidance counselor. Needless to say, I don’t think I have to talk about behavior. We , of course we’re not perfect. But we knew when to walk away from peers , yes even while standing several feet above her, saying if my mom catches me doing that, well the consequences would not have been worth it. She said my boys will graduate, they will not have babies before graduation, btw, she she sure her work schedule coincided with the time we got home from practice to make sure to raging hormone teenagers didn’t get into folly with the young ladies at the vulnerable time of day. She would always say, and it use to aggravate me at no end that I will never uphold you in any wrong doing , and I’ll never say what my boys will or will not do, I can tell you I know how they’ll behave when I’m present, but I can’t say what they will do when I’m not around. She prayed that the wisdom that she gave us would carry us outside of her presence. So yes I agree education begins with the parents. I’m frankly, tired of the excuses, and when you see them at the school house , and I mean all races only when they want to give teachers a piece of their mind. Nuff with that foolishness

The parents also do it to get a disability check once the child graduates from high school and that parent knows there are no jobs for their son. especially in the south. And the parent (usually the mother) is not pursuing the creation of a network amongst her peers that would ensure a career for her son. White mothers on the other hand do these things, other non-black parents do these things to guarantee their sons excel financially after graduating high school and/or college.

Accountability is low for all kids now. Their parents are also responsible for what their kids do not learn. Administration is also accountable, and a number of other systematic institutions. I find most parents don't want to be bothered with their own kids and want to push off responsibility to people who could care less about their children.

I would have to disagree most black kids are in Special ED because the parents didn't teach them anything, black people do not prepare their children for school by investing in their early childhood education. Most of our children go to kindergarten already behind not even knowing the basics. The teachers have no foundation to build on, plus they have behavioral issues too. Special Education gives them a chance to catch up if there is high parental involvement, black people send their kids to school hoping for a miracle without any involvement on their end when the child is at home. But I do agree that the school system is not designed for black children either which makes the situation even worse. But I think we have a responsibility as parents to take more accountability for our children on all levels and stop leaving it up to other people

There is racism for both students and Educators in schools that are not racially diverse, by racially diverse I mean no black Teachers and no black Admin, no black education specialists (OT, Resource Specialist, Speech, Psych, etc..,). Unfortunately, the numbers of schools that are all black in California have all but dissappeared (truth be told, the student body was all black, the Teaching staff was not). Both staff and students experience micro aggressions, and passive aggressive behaviors from white or hispanic staff and students, they let both black staff and students know exactly how they feel about them on a daily and regular basis, they make a concerted effort to keep both black staff and students on the defesive to the BS they are constantly doing, yet they so easily deny (Why? Because they are the majority and yes, even in education they will lie "Your child needs Special Ed", as an educator "you did not turn this in or you did not do that correctly" the entire time the paperwork was turned in on time and done impeccably...black educators are CONSTANTLY scrutinized... you see where im going with this? When they are the majority in a school (wich is 90-95% in Calofornia) there IS racism toward your black child, and the black staff that truly fight for your child, is catching hell on that job in some form or another everyday single day. They do not want to integrate, and even though it looks like it on the surface (big business benefitted the most from integration), when you look at what is really going on in jobs, schools and neighborhoods a different truth emerges. So listen to what Dr. Umar is saying. He knows exactly what is going on and how this system impacts our children. Listen to what Black Educators are saying, we know what is going on.

African Americans/Black folks start educating your children from day 1. They also need a bank account. Black/African Americans soon as you find out your pregnant you must educate your infant in the womb. Read, math, nature, biology language. By 2 years old your child must be doing ABCs, 123s. F Don't wait until there 5 years old to begin educating. Start by 2 years old. Parent/s also will improve their skills. By 6 years old your child must have a library card. Museums are free. By age 9 they must travel to different states or overseas.
