Dr Who TARDIS VFX in Blender

A short VFX shot I made.
Camera tracking, modelling, rendering and compositing all done in Blender 2.8.

I think what sells this, is that the interior looks like it's actually been hand built buy a fan, you know he slight improportions the lighting. Just everything here is great

This is very, VERY impressive; it mostly blends into the background and then the outside looks great when you pan back to the doors. But if you're willing to take one note, I don't think it QUITE blends into the ground as well as it could. Awesome work

Fantastic. Almost flawless, the only real issue, is the contact shadows between the TARDIS and the ground, but it's otherwise great.

Coming late to the party, you probably improved since then, but i'd suggest the outside shot having a lil bit of post processing so the 3D model can blend better with the "real" background. Otherwise it's awesome!

It looks more like Smith's last interior - rather than Capaldi's, and the exterior Blue of the TARDIS is more with Smith/Capaldi even though the detailing is Tennant. Observations, not complaints- it is fantastic!

​@@schubertuk it's Capaldi's interior because the rotor thingy is orange, Matt Smith's was blue. And yes it is the shade of the 2013/2014 exterior but the lantern is like Tennant's and also there's no st. John ambulance sticker. Yes observations not complaints.

conner sinewe I had two different models (one for the outside and one for the inside) that I rendered out separately and then used a mask in the doorway to mix between the two.

Hi there! I'm working on recreating this project at the time and it really works out great, but I only have one issue. I created the effect the same way that you did it with masking out the interior and compositing that together. But when I put the camera inside the Tardis and render towards the door, the Tardis box will still show in the foreground. Do you have any idea how I can fix that? I'm really desperate since I can't think of a way to solve this... Thanks in advance!

The way I did it was to have the doors as part of the interior layer, so that once the camera passed them I could just turn off the exterior layer and have just the interior showing. It also meant I got some of the interior lighting behind the glass and on the doors when they opened.
