Great video you know your stuff ! I’ve rebuild this type of shock and you did it correctly……..but Omg 😳 DONT charge your shock with air ! Bad! Use nitrogen as it’s inert ie it won’t increase in pressure as the shock heats up . Keep up the good work , also a 1989- 1992 RM250 shock will fit and work great with the DR350 , a great way to improve off-road performance cheers 🥂
@DawidMartasMotoAdventures
@DawidMartasMotoAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Now we have nitrogen charging station so this problem is solved :) Anyway we used just air with shock absorbers for some time (with AT750, XR400 and DR350) without any problems. But the correct way to pump is it with nitrogen :) Thanks for the tip about RM250 shock.
@RogeyFrom70s
@RogeyFrom70s Жыл бұрын
Well really Marta doesn't know her stuff.( Sorry Marta) Correctly stated -you should never pressurise with AIR. Technically it IS a gas but the hint should be where the manual states GAS not AIR ! I dont think the tyre pressures, seen below would say inflate with Gas and assume people will take that as meaning air.
@RogeyFrom70s
@RogeyFrom70s Жыл бұрын
Have just seen your 5 months ago reply Dawid & Marta. Yes I've seen others put a little air in but not 140 odd pounds. Air is more dense, I think,so that wouid be way higher pressure than would be safe. There could be a chance of explosion when the shock heats up.(pressire increase dramatically) More likely in hot weather. You could be encouraging others to do the same -resulting in injury or worse. Maybe an update or text added over the video would be wise. Otherwise I enjoy your videos with interest as I have a lovely DR350 SE-x 1999 year. Thanks for reading my concerns here. Regards, Rogey Roger.
@skualpascal6684
@skualpascal6684 Жыл бұрын
with air you oxydize oil and parts touching it, but worst is that when getting hot an rear absorber shock (front fork too, but it gets more air flow to cool it) becomes very hot very quick because of hi rate of pumping up and down : so the air volume /pressure dramatically INCREASE :(((
@aaaaaaaaaaaaaa4151
@aaaaaaaaaaaaaa4151 8 ай бұрын
Go on to Thumper talk, using air instead of Nitrogen has been beat to death, many people have had no issues using air, dont forget the DR350 shock is not a high quality item, & its on a trail bike,,,,, if you were racing a rip snorting race bike flat out you might worry about the gas, but for anything else air is fine.

Always best to wear hand protection (surgical gloves) when dealing with hydraulic /synthetic oils etc. The body can absorb these through the skin causing rashes, dermatitis and other serious illnesses including cancer. Used engine oil is also a health hazard. Take care.

Masz taką stronkę (racetech) i tam można kupować uszczelniacze, membrany gumowe oddzielające olej od gazu w zbiorniczku i inne nietypowe części.

@DawidMartasMotoAdventures
@DawidMartasMotoAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Last time we fully rebuilded this shock absorber (seal head oring, compression adjuster orings, oil seal, slide bushing, bump stop, new oil, nitrogen). We installed bump stop when piston was disassembled. For example in Africa Twin 750 you may unscrew bottom mount (stem) and nut (you need heat gun to unscrew nut, it is locked with thread locking fluid). Then you can replace bump stop without complete disassembly.

@DawidMartasMotoAdventures
@DawidMartasMotoAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mario! Oil: Ipone monoshock fluid 3W 1L, I used this botle for Africa Twin 750 shock, DR 350 shock and MTB bike damper. Still some oil left in the bootle :) Gas: I used just air. I pumped it by hand bicycle shock pump.

@@mariopereira7895 That's true. Anyway air consists mostly of nitrogen (78%) :D

Which one rebuild kit? They should be available at ebay/amazon/aliexpress :D Anyway, we are planning to make repair kit for this shock: oil seal, dust seal, set of o-rings and shock piston rod. Now we are working on similar kit for Africa Twin 750 rear shock ... it is almost ready for tests :)

Rear shock oil seal was fine in our case (it is the biggest problem to replace). We only changed 1 o-ring because is was damaged during disassembly. I think there is no rebuild kit for this shock at market now :

hi, what oil did you use 5w or 10w?

Hi! I used "Ipone monoshock fluid 3W". No idea what kind of oil should be there according to the service manual. We already got this bottle after repairing Africa Twin 750 shock.

@@DawidMartasMotoAdventures I believe air has moisture content and may cause corrosion. I need to do this with my shock absorber on my dr250r, might just use air. Has the air pressure remained constant or have u had any problems with it ?
@DawidMartasMotoAdventures
@DawidMartasMotoAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Luckily there are only aluminum parts so I won't corrode :) In Africa Twin 750 there is steel reservoir cap, but there was no sigh on corrosion after 3 years. Of course original cap is zinc plated. Moisture inside air cause bigger thermal expansion (dry air have almost same thermal expanse as pure nitrogen), but I never noticed any difference during normal ridding. Maybe professional riders are able to see difference :)
