A lot of the fan favorite presets add gimicks, take lycanthrope for example, you start with full wolf, it ADDS something unique to the preset, even Bounty Hunter (Keeping my bias out of this because it's my favorite preset) Added use to the familiar cards, But Spellbound just kinda throws that away and directly removes things. Not even fully, just sometimes delayed heavily. Directly removing things is going to be objectively worse than adding them the vast majority of the time imo

I think the familiar cards should tell you what spell they unlock. It should be possible. After all, in bounty hunter they tell you what enemies drop the Vlad relics.

The preset was updated to change the names of the cards to tell which spell the same day.

I can see the reasoning for using this preset (besides the randomized items) for tournaments would be to increase the value of the average relic find so if you like miss a 50/50 or decide to go for more relics than what you need you may find an useful spell instead of a familiar card that doesn't add much that could theoretically allow you to close some of the gap on the other racers since none of the spells are necessary for progression they're more likely to be in places where you don't need to go. I think that some spells, like dark metamorphosis and hellfire would need a bit more rebalancing in other to make them more relevant if that's the idea, and summon spirit should always be one of the earliest spells I feel. Still, making wing smashing better with the relic or making it worse without instead of outright removing it seems a more sensible idea since tournaments are so speedrun focused. Giving fire of bat, echo, and force of echo inherently with the soul of bat relic might be a good idea and then use those relics for something else that would make the preset more unique as well.

Unless every vlad is in the first castle, every seed, not having wing smash to get around the castle until you find the right spell card sucks. The whole reason I play the randomizer is to bring new life to a game I’ve cherished for almost 30 years now. If you want to go from being a “normal” player to a “speedrunner” then spend the time to learn the game and get better. Trying to level the playing field by removing core movement seems like compensating for being lazy.

this rando seems weird cause I feel like restricting the alucard spells doesn't really do anything to the game. it just makes a few early bosses go slower. and then it adds an extra hoop to jump through to get wing smash, so what's the point there as well

Combine this with enemy stat randomizer. It gets really hard. Couldnt finish the seed I created yet but from the comments it seems like wing smash is oocked as well ? If thats the case than it kinda sucks. Just suon spirit etc would be enough

For the al go rhythm but also, this is not a tournament preset. This is so stupid. This is ABSOLUTELY a content preset. I hate that folks are being forced into a tournament with this. Funny the same person that thought of this also thought of the SHIT BH tournament. Tells you a lot about that person huh?

I like that this preset forced DB to play like a normal person. Spends most of the time talking about wing smash being locked and still beats the randomizer in less than 45 minutes. Ive seen seeds he doesnt even get bat. For a guy who plays video games for a living, he complains like hes got a corporate job
