Cross Training Adventure

Күн бұрын

From the suspension guys at www.fullforcer... This episode looks at protection such as a bashplate, handguards, case savers, frame guards, fuel tank... anything to make the DR650 more unbreakable! Here are the relevant contacts:
B&B Offroad Engineering: bboffroad.com.au/
Force Accessories: forceaccessori...
Vince Strang Motorcycles: www.vincestrang...
IMS fuel tanks: www.imsproduct...
Fastway handguards: www.promotobill...
Fassto Flexx bars: fasstco.myshopi...
There's a lot of great protection available for the bushpig and much of this we sourced from some great Aussie suppliers, B&B Offroad Engineering, Force Accessories, and Vince Strang Motorcycles.
The Force Accessories bashplate. At the very least Suzuki needed to put a plastic bashplate on, it's rare but it is possible to throw up a rock and crack your engine cases. The Force Accessories bashplate is a great balance between weight and strength at 1.5kg, and will take plenty of punishment. It's available in a natural finish but we opted for the black PPA finish as the coating absorbs engine noise instead of reflecting it back up to the rider.
B&B Front Sprocket Case Saver AUD$68
The front sprocket case saver features a new heavy duty design from B&B. It's CNC machined from 6mm aluminium plate with a 4mm aluminium front sprocket cover and serves a few purposes. It protects your cases if your chain ever snaps, you can clean mud out easily, you can check your front sprocket wear at a glance, and it's also very easy to see if you have any oil leaks from your countershaft seal.
B&B Case Guards AUD$88.00
A decent bashplate should provide good protection for your clutch and ignition covers, but it pays to double up with these B&B covers made from 2mm aluminium 5052 plate. These are easy to fit using a high quality, heat-resistant silicone adhesive.
B&B Oil cooler guard AUD$85
The standard mesh over the oil cooler is fairly weak, so we opted for the B&B oil cooler guard which is CNC machined from 2.5mm marine grade aluminium. Covers the full length of the oil cooler unlike the stock guard, so even the most determined stick won't be putting a hole in the oil cooler.
Acerbis 19L fuel tank US$274
It takes very little to dent the stock steel fuel tank, which also has a very small capacity for adventure riding. Plastic bends instead of denting, and at only US$274 this a great way to also get 50% more fuel capacity too.
VSM
We fitted this rear chain guide support plate from Vince Strang Motorycles, if you are riding in rocky areas or deep ruts this provides an added degree of protection and looks quite cool too.
VSM also do this rear rego plate bracket & LED light kit that replaces the bulky stock setup that is just begging to collect mud or get smashed when you drop the bike in gnarly terrain. Both of these Vince Strang items are high quality stainless steel and designed to last.
We've fitted the brilliant Doubletake mirrors that use RAM mounts so they are nearly indestructable, allow more positions than the Kama Sutra, can be folded out of the way, and are very light as well.

Some great stuff on this channel. I had a quick look at your videos but I didn't notice any about camping/bush gear. Maybe you guys aren't interested in all that, as there are a lot of other sites dedicated to it. BUT... I stumbled across something the other day that might be useful. It's a self-filling water bottle. Yes, I'll say that again: a self-filling water bottle. It's called "Fontus" and it's being developed by some eggheads in Europe. It's solar-powered and it extracts moisture from the air and condenses it. All I'm saying is: if it could work in a dry climate, then it'd be a useful backup water supply while on ride-about in the bush, in case of emergencies; like not having any water to mix with your whisky. Anywho... check it out.

if you google DR650 you'll find a few guys have done project series too. also check out the procycle website, they sell almost every aftermarket part you can get for a DR. fixing the stock carb and a better exhaust should give you around 10% more power, the vast majority of riders find that is plenty. :)
