Drachenfest Details: Choosing a Camp?

I'd like to go into a little more detail about the blue camp and it's ways. The most important thing is freedom as Will already said. But it's most definitly not only about your own freedom but freedom at large. Every charakter in blue camp joins the cause for their own reasons and most of them are already free but when it comes down to it, they fight so that everyone else may live free. So while some blue charakters may tell you: "F**k off, I don't feel like fighting today and you can't make me fight!" even more might as well take up arms and rush to the rescue when they're told that there are some slaves being brought to the black camp to be sold. And while the set might be very maritime there are plenty of other charakters which are most definitly not pirates but still love the idea of freedom and are willing to fight for it. Like paladines, elves, orcs.. the list goes on. As for the theme of the camp.... freedom might be our positive side which we tend to show to everybody who want's to see it (and even to those who don't). The blue camp and it's avatar have a dark side as well, which manifests in greed. Greed for personal gain, power, freedom, gold, more gold and even more gold... did I mention gold? It's kind of like the curse of slaanesh, it's next to impossible to satisfy the greed. And that's where the pirates enter the scene... and the conquistadores... and the orcs once more.... I think you get the notion. As for the drinking and partying stuff... well suffice it to say, that there is a spell in place which turns every member of the blue camp instantly sober when they enter a battle (provided you're not drunk for real). A decent ammount of players is only playing drunk but aren't really drunk because... you know... pirates and stuff... we are supposed to be a bunch of drunken bastards. And did I mention that we're kinda greedy. So when we party... we party hard.So to sum it up, the blue camp is a fun place for nearly every charakter. As long as you are into freedom and greed. A chaotic good charakter might as well fit in as a chaotic neutral one. There are good characters as well as evil ones but they all fight for the same goal. And last but not least it should be mentiond that the blue camp is a camp for which one has to apply for. You can't just buy a ticket and join, well at least not without applying beforehand. This is necessary because the space of the camp is limited and we have no way of growing larger. So it's not about some "We don't like your charakter/way to play, you can't join!" crap but real, pratical reasons. AAAAAND FINALLY: I just subscribed your channel Will. Keep up the good work. :-D

Choosing camp to join Drachenfest is a serious business, but my advice is that you're there to have fun above everything. I say this 'cause this one was my fourth year at Drachenfest, all of them in the Blue camp, but it's been the last one. My boyfriend and I passed many time angry for how the camp work and how things came out, so we're moving to Silver camp, to join other friends' group. I'll always keep Blue camp in my heart, but we felt like we needed to move. Gosh, it sounds like a couple break hahahaha Anyway, great video, and if anyone is reading this, remember that having fun is the first point at Drachenfest :)

Come into the Chaos Camp! We have cookies and fish sticks! But to be clear. Chaos is not about being evil, and we really try to get away from this stigmata. Our camp is about change, in good and bad ways. The reason for this bad view is mainly because of the fact, that the word Chaos is closely linked to the Chaos Gods in the Warhammer Universe, who are, in the eyes of most of the other camps, quite evil, but there are many characters, who believe in a different kind of change and freedom. I for example play a character from the Forgotten Realms Background, where you can find many chaotic good or neutral gods, who are not all about destruction. If you like, I will galdly introduce you to some people, who can tell you more about it :)

as a blue camp char I can say, that's very true. chaos got some of the cooles and most unique chars and units on the Drachenfest - all with their own lore, costumes, customs and even buildings. Call them evil, chaotic or worse chars - but they are all awesome players.

When I get my own Chaos Warrior costume I will be making (and buying) I will be coming over to join in this amazing event. I've always been a lover of Chaos, both Warhammer and other types. I completely understand that the Chaos Camp isn't wholly evil, because they are more...Misrepresented. Chaos is so cool and seeing them in videos makes me want to get my rear in gear and join in the name of Chaos!

also when you thinking about warhammer universe the chaos tribes do fallow a path to perfection and the willingness to surrender all that you have been to become the best form and if that means you gona mutate to a fuckin demon hell why not. tho warhammer chaos fractions do all have rational reasons for their behaviour and if you look at warhammer 40k especially it is the propaganda of the empire that leaves chaos in the light of beeing evil. Also when you look at character building you can find chaotic good, neutral and evil side by side.

Hey Will. As a Blue Camp maritime styled char I just have to answer to the "undisciplined party camp" part. Blue Camps main themes are "freedom/liberty" and "greed" (like all dragon camps have a darker aspect, greed can be the scary one) - and as the Dragon behind those themes is maritime styled so are most of the people fighting for his way. Also there have been a few adjustments, so the re-phrase "With Great Freedom Comes Great Responsibility" will be more important. Sure, all sailors like a good party and love their grog - but the time Blue Camp was the party camp is over for years. People still think blues are a bunch of drunks, because the blue camp got the ONLY player driven tavern (and the biggest one on the Drachenfest) - where you can find pirates, sailors, mermaids, the blue and a lot of other campers partying. That said, the fighters of the blue are surprisingly disciplined - and if the numbers are equal there is a good chance that they might send copper or red home with a bloody nose. BUT - and that is sometimes misjudged as beeing week - we love to show off in fights, so more important then winning is giving a cool fight. So the inofficial theme of the blue camp when wighting is "better dead then uncool". So, come over with your golden lads next time, and pick a fight ;)

The answer might be a little late, sorry for that. Basically I'd urge you to somehow join a group you like and go with them. NorthmenVikings can basically go anywhere. They fit with blue, red, green, the tribes, list goes on. So basically join a group you like and go where they go. ;)

I am moving to Germany come the New Year and want to attend Drachenfest, so learning about the camps is helpful. We have Drachenfest US in the same location as Pennsic, (I have attended Pennsic, but not Drachenfest). Drachenfest US only has the five camps (Blue, Green, Red, Shadow & Silver), so it is a little bit different.

oh lovely copper camp. The copper dragon being the oldest stands for order and domination. Our camp is full of fanatics, In-Time speaking, who believe that copper is the only true Leader. People tend to see us as the bad guys because nobody knows what will happen if we ever win. Copper camp is very beginner friendly.

Gold's a safe bet although I think Red is all about passion and fighting (Most avatars carry some kind of staff whereas red has always carried a sword or axe!) Both are equally welcome in the arena and fighters guild anyways!

Hi, I've actually never been to DF but I´m going this year with a lot of friends and this is what I know about the town guard. The town guard is a group of NPC's and if you want to join them you would probably have to talk to the people that actually hold the festival. The town is a "safe" space (basically no big battles are to be held there though stealing and brawling may happen) so there is no way to capture it. Because its a safe space and filled with NPC's that sell real items such as armor, weapons, alchemy kits, etc the towns guard only guard the town and do not partake in any large battles for any camp or themselves. I hope I answered correctly :D

I think you just have to get in touch with the guys organising DF and then buy an Mpc ticket and you should be good to go with joining the guards! I don't think there's anything stopping you from joining in on the big battles if you're in the guard but the town isn't able to win the game.

Hah, I might not be on time with my comment, but Black Camp is about magic and power, but also about the end. Not only in a death kind of way, but also the end of suffering, end of seasons, end of basically everything. One of their catchphrases is "All has to end!" They also have some aspects like shadow and deceitfulness, because in the legend, the black dragon stole the creator's power from Silver and gave magic to the world, so they can be some shady individuals. Basically, all is fair in love and war, so sly and astute behaviour is not frowned upon, but a lot of characters there feel some sort of connection to the end, be it in form of destroying undead, killing their foes or even Carpe Diem.

The blue camp is now for jears a serious camp, a fighting camp, for freedom they fight kill and die, freedom for them and especially for all others,the blue camp got so big that we even have a attendence system now. its a camp with sea men, and the prettiest women, and know knights, all races beacause all races deserve to be free.

Also, what camp do you like the best, or would recommend? I assume it would really be best to get in with a camp that fits your character, but I thought I would ask anyway.

Hi Eldrich I have never gone to DF but I´m going this year and this is what I know. Here is a link to the ways you can take part in the event, it seems if you want to go as a PC then it is mandatory to pick a camp. Why else would one fight in the big battles if not for a camp. www.drachenfest.info/df/index.php?article_id=20&clang=1 I would recommend Gold camp since most english speakers go there. The morality of a camp should of course be a factor in picking which camp you should take but one must not forget that Out-Game situation is much more important than In In-game.
