Ruin is kinda a mixed bag, it's damage output varies according to your opponents def stat, sometimes it's better and sometimes it is worse Adaptability is kinda Consistent

Not really because Swords of ruin lowers the opposite pokemon defense stat by 25% but Adaptability gives you a 2x damage output on stab. I made a team with Chien Pao life orb (jolly nature) with adaptability and it ohkos Corviknight max df max hp after a swords dance lmao and same goes for garganacl and ting lu unless one of them runs thick fat which never happens haha.

@@dracomenace but if they have a low def stat that SOR doesn't decrease much you kill em anyway, the point is dropping the def of high defence physical walls. Which you kinda use adapt for too.

Adaptability is slightly stronger if your using a stab move (1.5 to 2.0 is a .33 difference) but on coverage moves like sacred sword you get no boost so it’s a mixed bag. Personally I prefer the consistent damage of sword of ruin even if it’s a .25 boost, especially because the best set is band and the extra power really isn’t necessary, whereas being able to ohko garg or something like that with sacred sword is much more valuable.

It’s not a .25 boost because when you lower the defense stat you deal more damage than if you only raised your attack. With sword of ruin the defense stat is multiplied by 3/4. so you’d multiply your attack stack 4/3 instead.

Adaptability is actually just a worse Sword of Ruin in singles. The -25% Def your opponent gets with SoR is effectively x4/3 for yourself, about the same boost you get from Adaptability. Except this works on all your moves, and you do additionally lower the power of Body Press.
