Slowbro weavile and Blissey all suffered pretty massive move pool nerfs, and Magnezone just kinda sucks now with Pokemon being able to terastilize since any steel type can just get out of Magnet Pull now with that, plus a few of the offensive steel types can just beat it in a 1v1.

Also they screwed over Weavile immensely by adding Chien-Pao which is quite literally just a better Weavile. If Weavile still had Knock off and Triple Axel it'd still probably be completely outclassed by Chien-Pao. Chien-Pao has a nearly identical movepool, better dark stab in Crunch over Weavile's Night Slash, identical attack stat but better ability AND speed stat.

Slowbro in my opinion is the best example to show just how strong pivoting moves really are. In gen 7 it was an RU but with teleport being buffed in gen 8 it shot straight up to OU and became a top pokemon there. Then without teleport its back to RU again. Without a pivot move slowbro loses what makes it unique and it just becomes an average water type tank and that archetype is very saturated in pokemon.

In my opinion with the addition of court change, I think the meta every month or couple of months will continue to shift back and forth because if court change is on every team, hazard stacking can become a liability and therefore it’s prevalence will decrease. However, when court change users realize this metagame shift, they would at some point not run court change as often and run a 4th move for coverage and abandon court change. However in turn, with the decrease in court change use, hazard stacking would be more prevalent again and this cycle will continue until something new can come from Pokemon Home or DLC.

It also says a fair amount about movepool nerfs, tbh. Blissy lost it's strongest offensive threat, Toxic. Weavile lost item disruption and STAB, Knock Off. I'd say it's not just restricted to the oldies, either. Kilowatral, the new Electric/Flying, has almost exclusively Electric and Flying moves. It's only real type diversity are U-Turn (lol special attacker) and Weather Ball (varies with weather). And let's not forget Scald being removed from literally everyone, and becoming Volcanion's second signature move instead. Chilling Water is ok as a replacement, but it's not the same.

I feel like Baxcaliber could potentially bounce back once OU settles down a bit more and the meta continues to develop. dragon, ice, and ground with dragon dance is still extremely menacing, and it has some pros that both Roaring Moon and Dragonite lack. Due to the good coverage those three types give, and nothing being able to resist all three, I don't see it lasting in UU at the very least.

My answer to Gholdengo so far is Sandy Shocks, it's fast, can set Spikes, and one shots some major threats with Specs (yes I use Specs and Spikes it has been working for me). Lots of fun to use!

Very interesting. I’ve been switching between AV Great Tusk and Specs Kilowattrel. AV lets Tusk live almost all of Gholdengo’s common moves if not using specs or crits. I’ve found that specs Kilowattrel with Tera Water will take of it too. It’s also fast enough to take out other OU threats like Chi u and stop Shed Tail set up from Cyclizar.

With Tyranitar in UU, Garchomp is now the longest reining OU Pokemon. Theres a reason that snazzy shark is iconic. By tiering standards, Volcarona and Dragonite are tied for second, with Volcarona being UUBL in gen 6, and Dragonite in gen 7. And lastly we have Rotom-Wash in third, being UU in gen 8.

I feel bad for baxcalibur. I used it a lot in December on showdown. Yes it's frail, but i use grimsnarl lightscreen reflect. Terastellize to water and dragon dance. The only Pokemon i got outsped by is choice scarf dragapult. Also it would be a 100% in OU if thermal exchange made it immune to fire and other heating type moves(Say scald) imo. I'll still be using it while playing OU. But I'm sad that other people did not like it as much

Tyranitar will bounce back. It has in the past. All it will take is for some amazing ghost and psychic types to be introduced or reintroduced. Great Tusk and Gholdengo may be the kings of OU right now but once monsters like Spectrier, H-Zoroak, Magic Guard Alakazam, Reuniclus and Victini are reintroduced, they have various ways to deal with them. Chi-Yu, Iron Valiant, and Roaring Moon being banned would immensely improve the health of the metagame.

@@austinb2177 Azu is a great check to Chi-Yu and Chien-Pao with its typing, and has tera water boosted aqua jets backed by a belly drum. Rotom is...well... Rotom. Insanely good typing both offensively and defensively, and incredible support moves with a great pivot move. A volt switcher that threatens ground types.

Chilly Reception is such a strange move; in-game, it opens a text box about the user 'telling a bad joke', for one thing. For a second thing, it's exclusive to Slowking of all things, for some reason, when it could be used so much more productively if it had a wider distribution - and why Slowking, anyway? Heck, because of its singular receiver, I didn't even know this move even _existed_ before I found it in a list of Gen 9 moves.

Honestly, I think tyranitar is going to be put back in OU. UU is just not equipped to handle ttar. Also I think the biggest issue with ttar is that people aren't adapting it to the new gen. Remember, mix ttar was not unheard of at all for a while. Gen 2, ttar would often run fire blast just for skarmory. Remember, a mon doesn't have to have no checks or counters to be OU. It will just take a bit of time for people to experiment with ttar before finding a set that puts him back in OU.

As long as ting lu is around, it won't be ou. The only things ttar does that ting lu doesn't are tank chi yu fire moves a bit better and use dragon dance every once in a blue moon. Both of these roles can be fit on other mons with better role compression. You could say sand stream is a niche but it's by far the worst weather, and nothing except maybe garg can actually use it to its benefit

I think Baxcalibur has a solid chance of coming back to OU. The utility of a physical sweeper that easily switches into a Will-o-Wisp shouldn't be understated, and it's devastating if it gets a chance to set up; it's just harder to get off the ground than something like Dragonite or Roaring Moon, without the former's amazing bulk and the latter's amazing speed tier. If Skeledirge or Rotom-W usage starts increasing for whatever reason, I think Bax is going to go up with them.

it's just extremely passive now that it lost toxic and just how powercrept things currently are. the good special attackers in OU either outright beat it (Such as Chi-yu, Iron Moth, Volcarona) or Blissey cannot touch (Gholdengo, Dragapult). It really can't do anything besides Seismic Toss and heal itself and is complete set up bait.

In addition to what everyone else said, the continued erosion of Intimidate means physical attackers are making a comeback, which Blissey just flat out can't deal with.
