Love to see someone who knows what they are doing...this should be a pre-rec for anyone buying colts on how to train. People should remember they are just babies. My dad’s mum came from Hastings, England. She would heartedly concur with your names choices. Long live Duke and Earl!! Do keep in mind that a Duke is two places higher in ranking than an Earl. Earl will require, no doubt, an extra grain helping to deal with this state of affairs.

Glad she would approve! Haha we will have to keep that in mind about the grain!

I have just started watching your videos in the last month and subscribed, I'm an 83 year old city boy and just love watching and learning about your horses and family. You are a blessed man and I share your love of family and animals, although my animals are a bit smaller. You bring a feeling of calm in your videos that makes me feel good and there are a lot of people who appreciate them as I do. Watching you with your family in the trailer with Duke and Earl was emotional for me, as it was as I could see in your eyes. Thanks your Canadian subscriber.

@@WorkingHorsesWithJim I had suggested Buck and Owen originally but I woke up around 230 in the morning and the whole British heritage thing with Duke and Earl was in my head, I immediately sent you a message. I’m in Georgia and if you look at the time stamp on that message it’s like 242 am, I thought it fit and glad you guys did as well I have mules and 25 acres. I recently purchased a 1930s era windmill from a farm in Nebraska and erected over a well and now it pumps water for them. Since I have mules and a windmill, I combined the 2 to affectionately call my place “WindMule Acres”

@@bdradley1 I've been learning more recently about mules and the mistaken ideas about them. Guess they can become excellent, sturdy riding mounts and also function like guard dogs...is a mule offspring from a male donkey and a wellbred mare as dam? So they can get the best traits from each?

Great names, aristocratic , and should help them become the gentlemen you want. Thanks for the mention! I'd be playing lovingly with brushes in there. Someone arrived one day I was under a tree picking burr and brushing 3. We went inside. After half an hour he said "Hadn't you better let the horses go?" Me, "Nothing was tied!" He looked out the window and no horse in sight. Those clips do break, mostly made in China and Chinese steel not top stuff. An old inner tube is good, around something, the give kinda bluffs them. I love these two, so placid. Looks like they've found an excellent home.

@@WorkingHorsesWithJim ...My horses all died out over a decade ago, and I'd ceased breeding when I later found some had not had the care I'd expect. They were irreplaceable. We'd packed half way across the state, loafing along the stock routes. When really travelling, with no home to return to, they learn to rely on you totally, they drink when you offer (me, that's every time we found water) and when we found green feed they'd ask for a halt, slip bits and fill bellies, which is actually as good as a drink. The older one had an almost human brain, and if she did anything out of character, I'd listen. We did some droving. One day behind cattle I'd got off, when I remounted she went about 15 metres and jibbed. Huh? Gave her rein and she turned back to stand over the stockwhip I'd forgotten to pick up! Another time she leapt off a track up steep into pines, stood ears and eyes uphill. I coo-eed, two mountain cyclists came hurtling down riding their brakes. Another time with the packhorse beside, I ducked my head to go through an underpass designed for walkers and push bikes, she baulked, she was going in quite happily, but instantly declared quite clearly "This is not safe if we have to manoeuvre in here", we went up the bank and dealt with traffic. If we did get in a pickle a mere "whoa" would calm them and they knew absolutely I'd get them out of it. In long grass one evening her lead dropped off her back, and caught a long piece of barbed wire, she tried to deal with it, one whoa and she was fine, nowhere near her legs. She stuck her head in a farrier's truck one day, declaring "me first" she'd done a day with one lost, farriers are hard to find. She was shod once, for a test if it could be done, by two farriers working simultaneously on diagonal feet. And earlier, much earlier, she proved barren, would never take a horse, so we'd use her for stallion company, kept the old boy quiet so he didn't stalk his fence. Over time, I'd had 2 old stallions as giveaways which would otherwise have gone to slaughter. Anyway, extraordinary mare. Carry a toddler and make sure not to drop it, then dump a drunk! I'm 73 now and lost muscle tone, horses about here mostly ratty, so I've grounded myself. I've had 2 spills just lately, only 2 others out of my 1977 saddle, and not looking for another. My best "thing" was the toey green-broke 3y olds. Getting old is a bugger, sorry to be so long winded, nothing left but memories and a treasured rough-riding stock saddle. Wouldn't mind a dollar for every time it saved me.

Great names; nice well-matched pair, too. About those forehead swirls--When I was a young girl, we had our black welsh mare bred to a smallish Thoroughbred; their colt had not one, but two distinct swirls just next to each other in the center of his forehead, surrounded by a big hooked blaze down his face; he was black like his mother, and that odd double-swirledblaze with his socks really made him stand out. I remember him like it was yesterday....which it most certainly was not, lol....wish I could find another just like him...
