Could you explain overchecks, and also how you get your horses to back up square without swinging their butts out please?

A mane and tail on a saddle horse is no big deal. A mane and tail on a harness horse is a pain. I roach my driving horses manes and keep their tails braided.

Thank you for sharing the little things that make up your day. I grew up on a farm in the late 70s and 80s. We had a milk barn that was much like yours. It was a little smaller and had only one silo (no fancy tops😊). I remember well the cold days getting hay from the loft for the animals. When I watch your videos, I can almost smell and feel my childhood. I appreciate your exciting videos of the hoses pulling, etc and I love the quite video of your day to day life.

Thank you. I am refurbishing a wooden rocking horse that I rescued from the dumpster. It was made to look like a plow/draft horse with a wooden collar. For my restoration I wanted to build out the harness. This was very helpful.

Happy New YearJim, Brenda and your family . Really enjoyed the experience of working with horses, as a young boy my nan had one and we also pulled wood etc. Lots of great memories of seting up the sled, horse sometimes more trouble than it's worth but had to get the job done.

we used to have a concrete slab to put the pill on so it would stem as the water would run to the centre of the. Midden pile as the salad would be sloping to the centre & we would turn the Midden once a week. often we went spread daily but the Meden would be put in the field that we intended to plough to be spread a week before ploughing.

Those horses lost without Jim (and Brenda), its funny how they like little kids, will walk right over a flight of stairs if you do not grab them, cute in a way how they lean on your guidance. Yes, my Dad always said "You have to show them who is Boss." The words so intriguing but the secret of how Dad and here Jim do that is really where the rubber meets the road , or the horseshoe hobs meet the Earth in a pulling horse. (you like that, ah ha). I like to comment on 3 things or so , I also like to comment on something unique while most folks hit on a similar topic again and again, I try to find a unique point or angle. With all those cats , no mice or rats messing around too much. It's funny how the scraunieist skinny cat can be the best mouser. They would drink the milk from a cow that was out of certification due to a medication, grade A farm some meds can not go into the milk for a week then the cats drink that or mayb a calf. Anyways,, fun to see how you do your chores, I always admired how professional farmers know their individual animals, it was my job to just listen to instruction and do what the farmer said because they know best, I never would challenge that and learned so much from those oldtimers. "You better let me milk that one". I learned there was a reason and roll with the punches. Amazing Jim how you get a cold when you get with others, I have the same thing. Coming from secluded Alaska, sometimes I pick up a big I have not yet been exposed to and build up the immune system. You have a good strong cough though. One last thing..., Love you guys and that goes out to All, happy New Year 🎉. Save some water in the prime can. (I better go see how Abby is doing in that new house.). Nice barn arrangement and feed philosophy. My sister is happy your getting after the rain rot on the horses, she said that can make them quite sick. Your on it. Horses look great. Nice work you guys, especially when it's not all fun and games. I appreciate your loyalty to your trade. Sorry, I got a little carried away, ah ha.

Curiosity, how often do you have to replace the wood under the stalls? Where does lady sleep if she lays down? I'm sorry for so many questions. Why do you shut the doors between stalls? Examples Lady, and Ken from others. Thank you

I was blessed enough to have spent my summers on my grandparents working farm and my good friend's horse yard and Ive always been impressed with the amount of work that goes into farm animals. As much as I have a dog but it's nothing in comparison to working horses or bovine
