So glad no one got hurt. Gosh they behaved so well! I saw a video where the Budwiser team was pulling a big trailor and horses went down. Was a while ago, but as I recall all horses finally got up. You did a terrific job getting them back on track. They really seem to be gentle giants. I enjoy watching the big guys and their feathery feet. They’ve got pretty big bums too. Really magnificent creatures. New to your channel. Thank you!

Hi we can't remove people like that so that definitely didn't happen - but we haven't been making any videos since June - very busy and hard to fit it in unfortunately. We plan to post an update very soon about everything. Thanks.

Just came across your videos. I love working with draft horses, unfortunately a few weeks ago, while training a fifteen-month old, I got careless and broke my finger. Always be alert for the unexpected and enjoy those drafts. Thanks for posting these videos.

Amazing video....this could have been really ugly if that horse on the left panicked... the driver handled it in a very calm and professional manner. I've only driven one horse with a carriage... on Mackinac Island... great experience...

I give a sign that I want him to give me his hoof, first I touch his chestnut on his front leg which tells him I want his hoof, if I want his leg forward, I tap his knee. On the backs I squeeze his hock. He’s pretty good for the most part, his rear left is always a bit of a battle. 👍✌️

Hi sir it’s Merlyn. As someone who’s just learning how to work with a horse, I am enjoying the videos. Any tips for training?
@drafthorseswithalexa4 ай бұрын
Hey ! Take it slow and steady - horse dictates the "schedule". We spent a lot of time daily - almost 3 months - with our first horses (Izzy and Sally) just bonding/grooming before putting a harness on, and then took things slowly with them for the first 6 months or so to get a feel for them. When it comes to training horses themselves, same thing. One step at a time. Highly recommend Doc Hammill's DVD sets if you aren't familiar....

@@drafthorseswithalexa 10-4 thanks for the advice.
@drafthorseswithalexa4 ай бұрын
I should add that Izzy and Sally were 17 and 19 when we got them, having spent their entire lives together on a small Amish farm. We had very little experience with horses in general before that, and while we are very proud of our progress - we are still quite new at this ourselves! The mares certainly knew far more than we did - even to this day that is still true haha....but we are able to teach them new things now as well. Once you trust each other, they will do anything you ask of them - or at least try their very best every single time.

@@drafthorseswithalexa yes, the reason I started working with horses is two fold. We ended up buying the two horses my daughters were working with for riding, I have no desire to ride, but through working horses with Jim, I developed a desire to drive/work with a horse. The second is, I found in just handling and being around the riding horses I found my patients again. Sounds weird but I had more patience at 25 than I did at 40. The down side in all this is that there isn’t anyone in the area that I’m aware of that still works with draft horses, and videos will only take you so far. Thank you for the reply’s. ✌️👍
