I got into one of the top universities in the world as part of a quota of kids from low income backgrounds and I felt completely undeserving of being there for the first few years. Even though my subject was my dream to learn about, I felt that my peers were more deserving than I was. That I was not equipped to handle this world financially or intellectually. So my 1st choice school (a state school in the middle of nowhere) put my admission on hold until I get a better ACT score and raise my GPA a little. I took the ACT 3 times, worked my but off to get my GPA up, and did so many extra curricular activities and got in. What’s sad is I later talked to some slacker in one of my college classes who told me that he had lower scores and GPA than me and got accepted easily, which made me wonder why my school made me put all that work in if it didn’t even matter. Anyway I now have a bachelors degree and over $20,000 in debt.
