The M140i is lighter, with a new B58 engine. The B58 has a longer stroke, better low rev torque, Guess these factors would help a bit?

Stephen j you could say the same about the 1m as that didn’t use a real m engine either, but it did raid the e92 parts bin and was a great car. You can’t say the same about the m3,4,5,6 as the have proper m engines, like the new m2 comp. the original m2 is the worst m car ever. It even has a bog standard 2 series interior. Joke of a 50k car.

I own one of these little beasts (the 5 door hatch) and I can tell you it's a great sleeper. No one except an enthusiast who recognises the car expects that much poke from a 1 series hatch. Before I bought it, I drove it back to back against the M2 and I found out what this video shows first hand. Since I wasn't looking for a track car (I keep another proper sports/super car for that) and it would be a grocery getter - school run car for my wife, I got the M140i. Absolutely no regrets.

@@haider7866 Sorry I missed this mate. With a light foot (which I don't have) you can get 10+ km/l. When I drive it like it's meant to be driven, it can get really bad, like 6+ km/l. Still, it's much more economical than many of my other cars, present and previous. 😂

Speed is only one part of the M2s(and all M cars) assets. Where as speed is the main asset of the m140i. There is so much more going on with a M car than just speed. It's the complete package- interior,chassis balance/handling, brakes, sound etc etc . Lap times are the true test of performance

I think this is due to the gearboxes. A Torque Convertor in the M140i acts as a torque multiplier when launching. The DCT in the M2 is more like a traditional clutch. Once rolling, the extra power of the M2 shows itself. Obviously this doesn't change the result, but does explain it.

You are both wrong. M2 is twin turbo n55 140 is b58 single turbo. 140 needs a lsd and a tune and you got something with an edge compared to an m2 but then there’s the m2 comp w s58 i think

Well for one the rolling start you wasn’t in line with each other so that’s why you pulled ahead so soon and then the drag race you did with no launch control you pulled off before the go so again you was ahead before the 140i even accelerated. 🧐

The m6 is faster both in straight line and around a track. The f13 m6 seems like the one to go for in the 30-40k price. Or even the beautiful sounding v10 version in 18-22k for a lci version.

I have owned a M135i xdrive and a M140i xdrive. I now drive a F80 M3. I just know from standstill the M140i xdrive will completely destroy a F80 M3, dry and surtenly in wet conditions. Rolling start without to much traction loss it will be a other story. Its not that much faster. The only thing with a M2/3/4 is you drive real M cars and it has to count for something.

I always thought my M2 wasn't quite as fast as I thought it was and this video proved it. Glad I traded it in 6 months ago. It competes with M140i and cars as such, which is okay, but in racing world, the little league, lol. Oh well, people always said there is more to driving than in a straightline. While that is true, for someone that lives in FL, which is flat and not many winding roads, im all about fast acceleration. I remedied my issue awhile back.

Ben Well spec RS3 will set you back in the region of 50k plus, a very heavy spec M140i plus a JB+ tuning box would set you back between 30-35k if that, and would absolutely destroy a RS3 in a straight line.

Different gearbox in each? DCT vs ZF Auto? Sluggish start in DCT but doesnt make up for it in the shift time. ZF stronger start and comparable shifts to the DCT not to lose distance.

M140 stock rolling roaded produce same if not more than a stock m2. M2 gets an additional 50ib torque overboost so maybe explains the difference in gear acceleration plus wider tyres

The M140i is Lighter, got the system xDrive, got the new B58 (more Efficient in is conception/performance/air-water Cooling, the Turbo Twin-Scroll is 9% Bigger than the N55, beetwen N55 M135i (20% more efficient, powerfull) and the B58 engine is creat in one Bloc and got Forged pieces inside. The systeme of Cooler Aire-Water do a great Job for cooling all the parts of the B58 Engine and preserve constantly high perf👌

Without any sort of tune and only replaced the downpipe and suspension brakes and exhaust, and run in my M2 properly it produces 386Ps ( 380bhp ) and 520 NM on overboost, i achieved 0-60 in 4.0 dead, had this m2 been the same, would smoke the 140i every time, however hats of to motech, they've made a cracking car.

Surprising the B58 engine in the M140i didn't beat the M2 as Joe's films have shown it to have more torque. Think the zf gearbox helps the 140 launch better. As much as I love my 140 I'd still have an M2

The M2 and the M240i are NOT the same mechanically. The M240i has a B58B30 engine while the M2 has a N55B30 (or S55B30 in Competition trim). The M240i has a ZF 8-speed torque converter auto gearbox whereas the M2 has a Getrag 7-speed dual clutch (M-DCT) gearbox (obviously manual gearboxes are also available for both).
