Galo was referencing Frida Kahlo's art. Frida suffered a life of severe chronic pain from what we now know was likely Fibromyalgia. The white banded outfit is her famous self portrait of the metal brace she had to wear 23 hrs/day. She painted her pain in a lot of her art. Her flesh was often tore open by the devices built to "help" eg this brace & her bed, which she was ridden to for decades of her life. As someone who has also lived w/ chronic pain for over 35yrs, I'm not sure how I feel about people calling this presentation "cool" or "sexy". I applaud Galo for bringing such an icon to the runway. Ps. Thx for clarifying the reason for the quick screen pics.

It makes so much sense for Mexicans, we got the reference and I love Galo for representing. Frida Kahlo is not only a Mexican icon. She is an artistic, creative, unique legend. The last look was Frida in a body brace due to an accident that damaged her spine. Gala played up the sexy in a tragedy and I am here for it! 🔥❤️

I think the problem with this new franchise is that it is being judged with an American drag metric. It is unfair that the entire judging panel is American. Even the review channels don’t understand other queen’s drag and don’t do the research to back up their critics. Just my opinion.

@TombCat8 күн бұрын
It's pretty recognizable to most people. Laganja and Joseph need to watch less bad TV. Frida Kahlo is at this point a legend of the art world. Her life story is a painful and beautiful part of feminist, queer, and progressive body politic. The art itself is fascinating and at times macabre - but connects deeply to her Mexican heritage and her own image - elements of nature and love. There have been so many documentaries and books about Frida as well as a PBS series and a prominent feature film starring Salma Hayek. Madonna championed Kahlo's work decades ago and owes 5 of her paintings. The last Kahlo work that came to auction sold for 35 million. Frida's work is now more valued than Diego Riveras. Which was not the case of course during their lifetime. Her work transcends and illuminates her physical suffering.
@stanloona89538 күн бұрын
@@TombCat claro - I think Laganja and the other one understood it was Frida (the first two looks). Unfortunately from my experience many non-Mexican depictions of Frida tend to ignore or erase her history as someone with cronic illnesses (the third look) where i sensed confusion from the judges ;) 🇲🇽💗

@@stanloona8953 I know, I kind of overreacted. But - some of the commentary and lack of awareness in these reviews frustrate me. Especially for Global All Stars. Less talk about what you had for lunch and the cost of the Beverly Hills Hotel and maybe do a bit of research? Laganja could pretend that she watched the episode.....she's fortunate to travel the world - but only knows about the food. Ugly Americans come in GAY too! I recommend IMHO - they have funny things to say and unique and nuanced observations about the queens AND the culture.

the language barrier is definitely going on, for the acting challenge they should've done physical acting, one lipsync song in each language, the globe is such a good idea also... feels like we're invited to be 2nd place :/ (or 11th in this case, we love you miranda) I would've loved to see rupaul say "welcome to the main stage" in a different language each week, or saying "thank you" to the eliminated girls, something to make us feel like we're in the same level and not just filling in to make it "global"..... imagine the opening song of each franchise, I mean, so many missed opportunities

i wanted to clarify, i dont dislike Kitty, just disappointed 🙈😂 (I guess my feelings can be likened to Phi Phi & Alyssa - AS2) Feeling like shes getting away with doing less, because of personality. Kittys wearing sub par outfits and acting camp on the runway (the only way to sell a bad outfit) and the judges are eating it up. Ep 5 (dont know if youve seen it yet) the brown runway, Kitty is in a bodysuit, says 'its giving Kardashian' (is it? 🤨) gets zero critiques on runway. I fully expected Michelle to say "in the challenge you were fantastic, but on the runway tonight.... it's a jumpsuit and coat" (cant you just hear Michelle saying that 💁♀️) And other queens with better looks get told its basic and the judges expect more from them 🤷♀️ Its frustrating as a veiwer :( Anyways no hate to Kitty, shes not at fault for her placements. The judging is just way off this season. Congrats to Laganja on her journey and to you for After Dark ❤😊 Ive been to Costa Rica, its beautiful, but your trip sounds like a cult 😅🙈 Be safe! ❤

The kid/baby comment made me sad. If you’re staying at the hotel, are you not supposed bring your kids to the pool? Keep the baby and mom in the hotel room? I mean kids and babies are people. If you exclude them, then you will also exclude women, even if it is unintentional. Kids don’t just pop out at 18 as well-socialized and adjusted adults. They will be taking care of us in the nursing home so we should probably try to include them in the social world.

I dont know what goes into these recap shows, but research isnt it, nor is listening to what the queens themselves say about their looks. American drag ala RuPaul's Drag Race is great for juveniles and people whose only references are pop culture. I didnt even watch season 15 because it's become so boring. Then you see European and Asian queens doing beautiful drag that's political abd references great art and movements throughout the ages and is deep. Still love y'all, but feeling a bit disappointed.
