The Ford Taunus is from Germany, it is indeed a Cortina. it was the first European Ford collaboration between Ford UK and Ford DE... if only the TC Cortina 250 came in a fastback like the Taunus TC1 back in the day from Ford AU. The Germans also made the TE TF Cortina in a fastback too and was sold throughout mainland Europe beside the Cortina

Do you guys get Opels and Vauxhalls in Australia, in addition to Holdens? That's right Americans, just because we don't see ANY Opels newer than the early 70s GT and Manta, doesn't mean they aren't produced anymore. For the longest time, until very recently, Opel were a German made division of GM. Vauxhall is the UK version of Opel. In Australia, Holden is their division of GM, and most or all of those divisions have produced some badass cars with the same LS engines and suspensions from Corvettes and Cadillac CTS-V cars. Also, just because El Caminos and Rancheros disappeared after 1987 & 1979 respectively, doesn't mean that GM and Ford stopped making that category of vehicle. The idea for El Caminos and Rancheros came from the Australian 'ute', which is what they call a car/truck hybrid. They also still make them there, and they even have high performance versions with Corvette style engines, transmissions, suspensions and brakes! Wish we got them!

Yeah, But after Holden became a thing they stopped selling Vaxhauls here and started re-engineering them under the Holden badge. Even going back to the 50's. The FE Holden was a 55-56 Kapitan, the 67 HR was also an Opel, but we didn't get the sexy coupe version (though someone has obtained a body and make a HAR "Monaro"). Our Commodore started the Calton, then grew to the Opel 2800 Omega platform. Out Toranas were Viva based, then grew to use Opel Monza as a base. There is a distinct level of denial in Australia, but yeah, it's all re-engineered German stuff. We made our own straight 6s and some 8s though.

I thought it was a Mk3 Cortina coupe, they made a few of those. Could probably find a V6 in South Africa.

**It's cool that the Australian guy knows so much about American cars/trucks going back 55+ years. It's a shame we don't get any of their utes, or HSV's. He is spot on about the 'boxy' 80s cars like Malibus being popular now, but not back then.** I can tell you that if you go back 20-25 years ago, even the mid to late 70s Camaros, Mustangs and Firebirds/TA's were looked down upon as the bloated, underpowered lumps that they truly were. The only people who actually liked the late 70s 'Smokey & the Bandit' era Trans Ams, were basically uninformed people who didn't know any better. Most people who knew about the earlier Firebirds, T/A's and Camaros from 1967-73ish, wanted nothing to do with the cheesy, inferior "Disco-Chicken" T/A's of the late 70s!

Berry Tharp attempt to drive most of these cars in australia and you'll be butt probed by the police handed thousands in fines an your pride an joy (stolen) "confiscated" if you manage to get it back after being reamed in court you'll have to pay towing an impound fees which will also be in the thousands an likely your once pride an joy fucked from sitting out in the weather.......australia is fucked which is why most cars camp out in the home garage an get trailered to an from events only once in a blue moon sneaking on the street for a burn..........

Berry Tharp preaching to the choir bud i completely agree. we're not completely disarmed as many falsely believe we just have no right to defend ourselves an sadly many here don't understand this statement "when seconds count the police are only minutes if not hours away"
