@scootbmx013 жыл бұрын
They do have chilled water to air systems, I'm sure you could retrofit an interchiller but it wouldn't be as easy because there's no valley to mount it. Also exhaust gases don't go into the engine from the turbo, compressed air does

They use high octane racing fuel at the track, so tuning at E 85 seems a bit pointless. You'll need to update the whole fuel map and timing regardless. It made a nice pass, but at the event, with the race fuel, it'll probably do a 11.32. With bigger tires and more solid rear end, I think you guys have a chance to get to the tens, but you can't do that with that fuel map/timing. You guys are doing great, just missed that small detail.

Lots of us going "Ozzi Ozzi Ozzi! Oi oi oi!" but... Ford's been making straight 6s in Australia since about 1960. But the engines they started making, came straight from America. This link starts about 2/3 of the way down the page, where they talk about the Australian engines. Have a squiz, then go back to the top and read the whole thing... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_straight-six_engine#Ford_Australia The point is, a 4 litre Barra is made here, but it is not and never was a clean sheet o paper design. It started out all cast iron in & out the same side, and it has gradually gotten more modern. You look at things like the bore centre to bore centre measurement, or the location of the head-studs, and even the last FG Barra was still based on a mid '50s cast iron American engine. They developed and refined, but they absolutely never started over from scratch. I'm not complaining, I think Barras are great, but... Aussies claiming this, is a bit like the American flying geeks claiming the Packard Merlin V12 in the Mustangs, was not a Rolls Royce and not a British engine... It was called a Packard, because it was made in America, by Packard, but it's a Rolls Royce Merlin. Pigs arse it not a Pommy engine!
@Daniel-dg3np6 жыл бұрын
It is 99% Australian. The material specs, 95% of design dimensions, ecu, injectors, head, cams, valves, belt drives, pulleys, plumbing, turbo, exhaust, intake, manifolds, cooling system, etc are all Ford Australia designs. Sharing bore centres and head stud location is hardly a determining factor. I doubt there is an engine today that doesn't share at least a few dimensions with ones before it.
@jessiepinkman14916 жыл бұрын
gees that's like saying a ls motor is the same as a sbc
@Russh14 жыл бұрын
This guy is on some serious drugs. Show me this stock 1950 US engine capable of handling 20PSI with the only INTERNAL engine change required being stronger head studs.... Material choice and manufacturing process are equally as important as the overall design and a couple of similar dimensions mean absolutely nothing. With your logic nothing new has been engineered since they invented the wheel because everything else is just "developed and refined". Hope you don't have kids man because they're going to grow up with a pretty bleak outlook on what they can achieve.
@Kneedragon19624 жыл бұрын
@@Russh1 Really? Bleak in what way? The thing I get grumpy about is all the people talking about the lovely Aussie inline 6. It is Aussie in the sense that we've been making it a long time, but a stunning amount of our Aussie six is straight from the that 50s US Ford. Look at bore centre to bore centre. Look at the location of the head studs - identical. Look at the location of the main & big end bearings. Look at the rods. You could't exactly swap most of the 50s parts into a present day Barra but it's pretty damn close. Now let's talk about other motors. Can I think of another similar example? I can actually, it's a hundred and one year evolution from a boxer twin motorcycle invented in Germany in 1919, to the VW peoples car, to the first 911 made in '64, to the 700hp GT2-RS that's still the fastest standard car around the Nurburgring. Now let's talk about "Bleak" ~ Did I once say any of this was a bad thing? Am I complaining? Should we feel down that we make a great 6? Did I criticise? Ok, I get slightly picky about all the people talking about the 'Aussie' 6 - because it isn't. It never started here. It's a 1950s inline cast iron in & out the same side pushrod motor that's been manufactured and developed for a long time on Australia. But in all that long history, there's never once been a blank sheet of paper start over again Australian version. It has always been a case or revision and refinement and development and improvement of what they already had. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. There's nothing bleak about it. I just get a bit sick of hearing about this great 'Aussie motor' we designed and built. because that's not quite what happened. Just like a 'Aussie' straight sixes in Holdens, they're from America. They're straight from a late 20s / early 30s Chev. I didn't ever say the Barra was a bad thing - it isn't. And I didn't ever say you could punch 20+ psi through an original 50s iron 6 - you probably couldn't, certainly nowhere near than much as stock. Mostly I think you're reading a negativity into my words, that was never quite meant to be there.
@Kneedragon19624 жыл бұрын
... and while I'm on a roll ~ Let's talk about the Holden straight 6. That ended production in '86, as the 3.3 litre black motor. Most VK Commodores had it. That came from the 202, which came from the 186, from the 179, which came from the 161, which came from the 149 Grey Ghost. That was a 1948 engine. Where did that come from? That came from America, from a 1929 ~ '33 Chev, from a straight 6 they started to develop in 1925. That engine was manufactured (with minor changes) from 1929 to 1986. It was an Australian engine because the Americans gave it to us, because we asked, after the war, so we'd have an engine manufacturing facility of our own...

"10's all day on $5k mods BS that the Barra boys say"....yes of course there are Barra's out there going high 10's on $10k mods but most people know they aren't going to last...I love racing all the "10 sec Barra's" because for some really strange reason my 11 sec car destroys them! ha ha

333 Trouble cant stand all the barra boys saying chuck 5k at it itll be a weapon. Ive spent close to 8k on my barra for mid 300s kw. It all adds up. Can do 10s for 10k with those shops but read the fine print saying if you want it to last think about x y and z another almost 10k in parts...
@333trouble86 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think most real car people know what it really takes to run 10's, the cost to get a car into the 10's in most cases is supporting mods for all the power that's needed...the power really isn't that hard, i also think 90% of people that think they own a 10 sec Barra have never ran it down a track and have no idea it's probably barely cracking 11's.....but they beat some other guy in his "10 sec car" in a roll race so it must mean it's 10's...right? Ok I'm gonna be one to say it, but does anyone else find it ridiculous that the computer HAS to stay with the same car and that Ford can't even reprogram them to match? Sounds a bit far fetched to me. I mean what happens when that computer goes bad? Does that basically mean you have the choice of sending your car to the wreckers as its basically a brick without the computer or putting a manual in to get around it? Just seems like it should be possible to reprogram it the way they reprogram the BCM, HIM and ECU in these things.

You absolutely can reprogram ecu's. Tuners have been able to do this for ages

The owner has more money than sense putting that plate on his car.
