I personally think that even though the original official art kind of matches the 7's age, they look more like 10 and 11-year-olds than mid-teenagers. I just think the art depicted them as younger than they should have been shown, though I do agree that they look less godly and (some of them) look more like the average teenager.

I think the problem with a lot of the drawings of the kids is that, to me, their faces look too old. Like, take the Nico one for example. It looks like a 40-year-old man's face pasted on a 10-year-old's body. Same for Grover's whole face and Annabeth's mouth in particular. The large foreheads are a big contributor to this problem by making it look like these young teens have receding hairlines or something.

The only decent one is Samirah's, and I don't like that she has hair sticking out of her hijab, since hijabs are worn to cover the hair, which significantly lowers my opinion on the art. From what I've heard, the artist who did the originals specialized in monstrous characters, and this was their attempt at humans. Thats probably why a lot of the anatomy is off. You can see the art looks more realistic with the animals, non human features, and backgrounds :)

@@Unclaimeddemigod It's especially visible in the Clarisse's art- the person drawing it clearly has a good understanding of composition, color, and all that, it just goes very wrong whenever they try to draw a face. The angles the characters are shown in might also impact it. Elongated heads look very different than flatter ones when drawn in perspective! Also, it's important to note that we, by virtue of being people who see other people often, are better at finding flaws in human faces. That's why drawing them realistically is so much harder than with animals. We don't have a clear idea of what a lion's face, for example, would look like, so we are more inclined to not see flaws!
