The actual case this was based on involved two gay lovers one killed the other left him in a Murphy bed than stole his car and fled back to a military base where he was apprehended

I have always thought that this one kinda hints at the murder victim and his murderer being gay.

One or both - just hints. But, even if so, there’s no hint of judgementalism affecting the investigation, which is nice. OTR can be pretty sexist in retrospect, but Dragnet wasn’t racist, creedist or homophobic as I recall.

Both in the Navy. One's an interior decorator who's keeping the other one, who keeps a super neat home. Its the fifties, stereotypes could be used to indicate, but not out right say.

No. I think the friend was just a bum. He was mad because of an incident that occurred in the navy and didn’t seem to want to work or do anything but felt his friend should just keep paying for the favor
