The Treatment of the Grey Wardens is something that always pissed me off. Everyone knows you can’t kill an Archdemon without them, yet people like Vivienne persist in calling them “worthless” or “outdated.” BITCH, THESE GUYS ARE THE ONLY THING STANDING BETWEEN THEDAS AND THE APOCALYPSE! They literally _give up their old lives_ to protect the world. No wives or husbands, no children, nothing a free man might enjoy. And on top of that, they’re condemning themselves to death by doing it regardless of how good they are at fighting. So in short; Thedas is filled with idiots and it probably deserves a good, _loooooong_ blight to teach it the importance of the Wardens. Say, two hundred years. That ought to show em.

Even if Bioware isn't the company they once were, they've always been great at worldbuilding. Mass Effect and Metro are the only game series I've bought all of the books for since I wanted to eat up all that lore, DAO is what really got me into fantasy despite loving the LOTR trilogy. I guess I just love the grittiness of the world's of DA, the Witcher, and GOT. @@jonny-b4954 well the reason why Halo sucked is because Hollywoods hag writers want to tell a specific story that they invision but they can never ever get their projects green lit because they are shit and so they come back with a popular named IP that automatically draw in a huge audience to then use as a vessel for that story they wanted to tell at the expense of the actual universe/lore/history/message etc etc only changing very few things to make this skin wearing IP look and somewhat feel like that universe. This trend is not gonna go away because Hollywood is very risk averse and now that Video game Adaptations have shown to draw in huuge audiences we will only see more of this bastardisation of our beloved ip's think Halo, The Witcher, Rings of Power, Kenobi etc, sure we will also get the occasional The Last of Us, HOTD here and there where actual love care and attention were used, but they will be far and few between and lots of our beloved ip's will be butchered in such a way that there will be almost zero chance for us to get a good and well respected version after the shit one scares hollywood execs away from them for a looong time.

@@kyeshayne A fundamental difference between those two and DA is that the latter doesn't mock and overly criticize Faith and Religion or condemn it as inherently illogical and evil. Dragon Age establishes very realistic and nuanced portrayals of Faith and Organized Religion with in-game facts supporting the faiths as more than just words. Then there's the whole Magic angle...Dragon Age portrays a magical system with serious consequences from day one. Where Mages aren't praised or in charge but condemned and ostracized simply for existing in the first place. While in the other two the main heroes are only such because they're aided by mages or are inherently magical while the Mages are praised and in some cases directly in charge. Given the very realistic portrayal of how indeed Humans would react to Magic existing and how the Faith isn't portrayed as nonsense but taken seriously are key factors that make it unique and in regards to those two themes better. Witcher is better at moral ambiguity overall examining what even is a monster or evil while asking if they even exist or if humanity is inherently selfish and corrupt, Game of Thrones does a realistic portrayal of medieval politics and nobility.

The more I listen to the lore of Dragon Age, the more I think the "Old Ones" are simply the Elvenari. There were originally 9, Mythol was murdered, and the dread wolf would have protected himself against the corruption as he caused it with the creation of the veil. Furthermore, he may have even cursed the Evenari into dragon form as punishment for the murder of Mythol. This would even make sense within the rest of the Dragon Age lore. The floating city, or the black city, would have been the fortress of the Dread Wolf. The Tevinter Mages attempted to break into the Black City at the behest of the Old Gods, who are trapped in the Fade. That would have been punished harshly by the Dread Wolf. That would also explain why the old gods are always the arch demons, they are taking their revenge against those that The Dread Wolves defends. The question then would be, why are there physical forms of the old gods on Thedas, and spiritual forms trapped in the Fade? That could have been a result fo the creation of the veil. It separated spirit and physical bodies, so their spirits could still be trapped in the fade and their physical forms trapped on Thedas. Perhaps dragons are the elvenari's natural physical form, that they kept tempered with magic when the veil did not exist? So many questions, but I'm willing to bet we'll get some answers in the Dread Wolf entry up coming. I have not looked into the lore of Dragon Age since I was 16, but I'm really glad I'm getting back into it. Can't wait for answers! Awesome videos by the way!

Incredibly well done! I love these "History before the games" concepts. Especially with RPGs I like knowing a bit about the world before diving in. This allows me to develop a story for my character that is grounded in the game world. It also allows me to feel like my character exists within the world, as they have a general understanding of history. For example, it doesn't make sense for a Human Noble in Dragon Age Origins to be oblivious to major historical events and concepts like what a Teryn and the political structure of Ferelden is.

13:00 I think the way to put Dragon Age back as dark fantasy is to make a game like "The Rise of Imperium" where you can play a Tevinter (mage, warrior, dwarf), elf and dwarves, but in a context where Tevinter ends or begins his war against Arlatan. Imagine, the Evanuris could all be introduced (but Solas is asleep so out of the game please). For example, a human Tevinter mage. Add the possibility or even an antagonist (eg: the same moral compass as in Star Wars Old Republic). wow

I consider myself a lower head. And this is hands down one of the best lure description videos I've ever seen for a game. Furthermore this is almost better than the party conversations!!!

Essential video! Important work! Apart from some weird pronunciations (Qun, Orlesians, Calenhad, etc) it’s a perfect intro to the world of Thedas.

I never knew dragon age lore was so good. The qun or the chantry, their followers and motifs are very realistic and a bit of reflection from this world.

The elves got what they deserved. Refusing to assist in the blight was ridiculous. The blight affects everyone. Its kind of funny though. The chantry believed a male divine would have been too quick to violence. Lol there have been alot of wars incited by a female led chantry. It goes to shows regardless of gender - war is inevitable.

I might be wrong but i think the Templars were a new order founded by the Chantry and the Inquisition of old transitioned into The Seekers instead. At least according to Inquisitor Ameridan and Cassandra respectively. Also Emperor Kordilius and Inquisitor Ameridan were friends. Halamshiral only became isolationist after Ameridan's disappearance.

Great channel and i hope to see more DA lore here in the future, i also want to suggest to (no offence) check how some character names are pronounced because it contributes to the overall immersion of the story being told.

I loved the artwork of the History of Thedas. You did a great job in showing what actually happened through out the major events within Thedas before the events of Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age 2, Dragon Age Inquisition and Dragon Age Veil Guard. Speaking of which, are they going to be recap videos the explains the story of Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age 2, Dragon Age Inquisition and Dragon Age Veil Guard?

Thank you for posting this. My own connection to your hard work here is thus: Years ago, i was so in love with Mass Effect that I found it very difficult to get into DA. I played DAI the most because it was the most recent at the time. But the character animations, dialogue choices and all felt too familiar but not what i wanted. It ultimately lost me at the Hinterlands. What i really wanted was more Mass Effect. 😅 Thus did I put down DA despite knowing these were objectively good games and decided to save for later. Then more later. Then even more later. Then the Dragon Age irl passed by with no word on another entry for years. Bioware's reputation sunk, the industry moved on, my interests moved on, and so on. My interest in giving DA a try never waned but wasnt prioritized, so I appreciated what little i understood of the the setting from afar. Then the first Veilguard trailer dropped and while many veteran fans were crying at the tone and art style, it immediately caught my interest. Like first off even I know who Varric is and i like him. Secondly, i like a good team being pulled together for a cause no matter how many times the trope is used. I thought, "Hm. Okay its on my radar, but id like to see more." My interest has only gotten more keen since and my VERY cautious optimism lured toward Bioware yet again. 😬 I dont preorder games anymore, with few exceptions. (Consistent history of high quality games COUGH monster hunter for example COUGH) So i will still hold off until real non-gane journalist folks get a hold of it and try it out for me to watch. But. In the meantime i finally wanna know whats going on in Thedas. It only took years and a long random comment on youtube. I dont have time to go back and play the games! But if the trailers were designed to appeal to people who didnt give it a shot before well here i am! 😊 Thanks for putting this together!
