Just picked it up on sale for $5. Excellent mix between 3rd person fantasy rpg and a strategy game. Love having control over how my party goes into combat yet still having free control over my own character as well. Wish I discivered this series sooner.

quarantine got me coming back to this game cause I never actually finished it due to the huge maps and amount of side quests, but a tip I have for new players is: DO NOT FIGHT DRAGONS early in the game. this is not Skyrim. you're not the dragon born. you and your team will be oneshot and dead.

Lmaoooo I remember when I was level 7 or something (replaying the game) and I found the first dragon Dragon. I was a mage and well.. I hid behind the stonen wall and for more than an hour I just attacked it until It had FINALLY died. God it took so long🤣 definitely not worth it.

Game is underrated if you ask me...It kind of got caught up in the crowds of games, (Witcher 3) (Fallout 4) (Divinity OS), etc. I'm LOVING it!!! So tired of people bitching about BioWare too.

Mage wasn't hard for me, but maybe it's because I always play as one in games for my primary character. Long distance attacks are usually far more easier in general than fighting up close since you're more susceptible to powerful attacks that could do great damage if you're not a tank.

one thing i do with all my mages is give them "Barrier, Energy Barrage, and Fade Step" skills. barrier for defence, energy barrage is a great offensive spell that changes to your staff element. and fade step is great to immediately reposition your mage out of danger and either damage or regen mana at the same time.

mages are the most under powered class i agree, until you unlock the knight-enchanter class. then killing enemies are just a formality. killed all the dragons and final boss before i even hit level 20. i believe i was at level 18 i'll have to check to confirm it though.

I just tried this game and created characters. Tried all classes but the one class that came to my liking and super enjoyed it is the archer. It's much better if you get the evade and with it's upgrade that could teleport you and dodge every enemies attack that comes close. The cool down is just 2 seconds.

damn this game is so hard, but im liking it and the same time scared that i wont be able to finish it T.T. i can only play at night after work and for an hour and a half. Im in my fourth day of gameplay and i still have a lot to searching in the map and to do. i like how you can interact with almost every npc you meet. Nice tips however I'd never consider the mage class as hard early game for many rreasons. One of which involves rifts where all enemies don't interrupt your closing of them as they're focussing in on the warriors. You also probably should've explained how to get inquisition perks/gaining influence(which the game does badly) instead of saying what it actually does(which is pretty much self-explanatory and easy for players).

I would never consider the mage the hardest class in the game and would most definitely never suggest it to someone who's purely looking for a challenge. Sure, early game, like pre lvl 10, you don't do as much damage and are squishier then the rest of your party, yet you still have the most ways of escaping danger this early on, curbing the difficulty and bringing it back in line with the other two. Then once you hit that lvl 10-12 mission to get your specialization the mage then becomes by far the easiest class in the game to play, and honestly this is still very early in the overall game. So to anyone who likes to play the most difficult classes in games, do not listen to this video on that subject, it is not the most challenging class to play. EDIT: but don't take this the wrong way either, the rest of the info in this video is good and displayed very well lol

Your free to say that this vid leading to the mage is wrong but keep in mind what might be very easy for you could very well be hard for thousands more who may not be as skilled as you are. Couple of questions. 1) How many different followers do you get by the end of the game? Should you play through the story to unlock all of the followers before completely exploring the world? How does exp with followers work regarding followers you don't yet have (asssuming there are more followers than the first 3 you get)

+pleasuretokill There are nine potential followers to recruit and that leaves you with a total of almost 100 party variations. Most of your followers you can get pretty fast, but to get the whole party you have to get to about 50% of the game. Secondly, you don't really need to recruit followers before going out and exploring Thedas. My tip however is that you should try various party combinations all the time while exploring to get some fantastic banter and decide which characters you like the most and which are stupid. Thirdly, when you unlock a follower they will automaticly be at your level with ability points for you to spend, so don't you worry.

Hardest is warrior with 1H with Shield , it takes so long before you do any kind of dmg . Rogue melee is ridiculous OP with stealth , Mage is the best ( In my opinion , so many good spells and passives) and 2H warrior is boring ( again in my opinion )Mage wasnt really chalenging for me ! im finishing my 3rd playtrough with a mage ( im at Nightmare) and its more than makeable :)!

Plan on buying the game around Boxing Day. Is there a class that has both melee+spells?. I do like Rogues, Warriors and Mages.. Off-topic; An achievement says "On 1st playthrough". Does that mean once you beat the main mission you can't roam around and do side quests. (e.g pre-DLC Fallout3)

If you pick a mage you can choose a specialization called Knight-Enchanter which has melee abilities

Surprisingly enough, there is less 'front line' support, control' based guidelines in this game than you would think. A ways into the game you can get Fade-touched Silverite, which has the ability to remove class restrictions from armours. What this winds up meaning is that you could very well make a twohanded warrior, up his base health to the extreme, and make some medium to light armour, giving him a slight speed boost and quicker movement around the battlefield. Coupled with some of the defensive spells, this proves to be a deadly mix(I've done it. Great for dodging the breath attack blasts from dragons.) Conversely, if you choose the Knight-Enchanter specialisation for the mage, which awards you a type of magic powered sword attack(one of your skills), you can go in melee and deal massive damage. Now the idea is in light armour you wouldn't be able to take many hits, but with Fade-Touched Silverite, you could create heavy battlemage armour, with upgrades to armour and health, and run with Dorian or Solas who both have guarding spells(If you auto level up companions like I do). This means that you go in in heavy armour, allowing you to stand there and dish out the punishment with less worry about dying in a few hits. So if you're looking for melee and spells, I'd aim for the Knight-Enchanter, and I'd definitely be on the lookout for the Fade-Touched Silverite, as it can help you out immensely.

I also recommend getting a sword and shield character, for their ability to block all incoming frontal attacks, making certain battles a lot easier, keeping atleast one of each type of class in your party, as I quickly realised in the second last mission which I had to replay since I didn't have a mage or archer at the time

The War Room yeah but with their barrier spell they can still be pretty easy to use even in the beginning of the game

It takes time before the game truly starts to shine. Try to hold in there a little longer til you get the combat down.

Mage challenging? I play mages by default in RPG games and I didn't found that difficult. I use 2 mages, 1 tenk and another warrior (Blackwall, Iron Bull, me as mage and Dorian.).Casting Barrier will make your warriors immortal. Once I picked specialization (Rift Mage) warriors were unable to come to enemy since damage output or rift mage is high.

True however your a veteran RPG player and Dragon Age has always been a new place for game players who are NOT veterans to RPG's. I myself never really got into RPG's til the first Dragon Age game. Since then Ive been hooked on RPG's ever since but as I said for you its easy, for others it can be very demanding and challenging.

I'm playing it rn and idk. At first I Hated It because it was so different but after getting used to it and being able to get boring side quests done it does get entertaining. I'm at 60 hours and I have done like most of the side quests. Also I hate the hinterlands! Worst part of game, takes too long and is overwhelming.

I love the hinterlands, after many times playing throught it with other characters i've got a route where i can pick up quests and pick up stuff for others before taking them.

Could anyone help me with a problem I'm having in Dragon Age. My character is dying too quickly all of a sudden. Ever since i crafted my own armor (Which has much higher stats then the templar armor i was using) and equipped it, when i start the emerald graves missions, my character is dying so fast. 2 hits from a common enemy and i'll have like one bar of life left. This never happened before, I'm playing on casual difficulty, and none of my other companions are having this problem. When i play with cassandra, she'll take the same hits but lose barely any life. I changed my characters armor back to the Templar armor and still he loses health so quickly. Could there be something wrong with my game?

The War Room So i looked at my attributes specifically my defensive attributes and My melee defense is -283% and my magic and range defense are both -295%. My character some reason has horrible defense. Cassandra on the other hand has +10% melee defense and 0% range and magic defense. She also has lesser armor. Could there be a reason why my defense attributes suddenly went down so much. I was never dying this quickly. I have a Human Warrior/Lvl 14

Wow that is strange that your stats would go down that fast, try a couple of things, equip a new armor and weapon, reload an old save game BEFORE you added that new "made" armor and/or go to your base, visit the black smith and buy a "reset abilities" potion. I believe that if you get that potion, take it and rebuild your characters main abilities it should fix whatever little glitch might have happened to your character. The reset potion should only cost you 300 gold or so too.

The War Room I figured out what was wrong! So the custom weapon i crafted has this ability called "Berserker". It gave me 30% extra damage at the cost of -200% defense. I equipped another weapon and now my defensive attributes are back to normal at +11% and magic defense +7%. Definitely wouldn't recommend equipping the berserker perk on any weapon.
