I definitely like the extra dialogue options, but not a big fan of the extra xp. Personally, I find the game a bit too easy, even on nightmare difficulty. I try and curtail this by NOT advancing in levels too fast, so battles will be more challenging. I could also just skip/ignore a lot of side quests and get the same result, but I tend to be a “completionist” with rpg games. Of course this could be fixed for me if they just made the game a bit harder, or add an extra difficulty level…

I agree with most of ur list, but what I always get before any other perk are those 3 perks that reveal special parts in speech (underworld knowledge etc). These are the ones that solve story related issues (For example Sera's mission, or the Imperial court mission). These also open special missions on the map and are extremely useful.
@Clever_viper9 жыл бұрын
I'd say that my top 10 would be 1-4: All 4 knowledge perks, with this you get extra dialog that let you get new agents and extra plot options. Also you get extra experience from every paper you can read, and there are a lot of those in the game. 5: Extra potions (Forces), as Kinetic said, in higher difficulties this is a must to keep happy adventuring 6: Extra flasks slot (Inquisition), carrying an extra set of potions or grenades can really give you and edge in battles when you're overwhelmed by demons. It is a must for battling dragons: Iron Bull/Reaver+ Regen potion+ Element resistance tonic = Dragon Rage*Infinite= Dragon slayer 7-8: Extra focus (Forces) Completely agree with Kinetic, 3rd tier focus abilities are awesome! 9: Deft hands and tools (Secrets) do you really want to walk through a locked door in this game and not be able to find what loot is inside? 10: The short list (Connections), It reveals that secret cool inventory merchants keep hidden. Every time you enter a region the cool item is supposed to change in the better stores. I've used this to unlock the best armor schematics that supposedly the Dog merchant in the Hissing Wastes has, yet I noticed that it always had the same unique armor and no matter how many times I reentered the area it didn't change and I couldn't buy the schematics. Maybe a bug in the PS4 version? Well this is my top 10 perks, I think the main difference is the knowledge perks I use and the extra inventory space I don't. My reason to not use those tailor perks is that if you're a bit picky in the loot you get (focus on the rate and unique equipment and statuettes, jewelry and other valuable for sale only items) and go to the store to sell those items after you return from each region there's no real need for the extra pockets. Hope it helps some of you

Considering that you have 19 perks to choose, if you unlock all those mentioned in the video, plus all the knowledge ones, you still have 5 more perks available. If you have a good amount of agents at each category of course. Inquisition's perks doesn't need agents, right?

I know that my comment is pretty late, but I agree with you - especially on the first 4 points. Leaves you with 3 points you can spend wherever you want - if you really, REALLY lack agents, use them to unlock the high tier perks. Why no +exp%? Overleveling. Waste of points. Why no +%def? 10% isn't worth it and it doesn't work currently. Why no Forward Scouts? Quarry/Lumbering locations can be found on guide-maps, google it :)

Some perks which I think are very helpful too are the knowledge perks which give you either extra xp when reading codexes or that give you extra dialogue options. Especially useful for the main quest in Orlais with the nobles and the empress. Also trainee herbalist (I think) gives you more herbs when you harvest, which in itself is extremely helpful if you want to upgrade potions/tonics or just replenish them.

Atleast three of your choices are just quality of life issues. Additional inventory space can be dealt with far more easily by returning to a merchant and selling excess items on a regular basis. That's two points you can use elsewhere. Likewise, forward scouts isn't as necessary after the first play through if you bothered to actually try and discover the entire map of each area, once you know what resources are on which map (take notes if needed) you can get the logging stands and quarries without needing to use forward scouts. However, there are three perks that are absolute musts if you want to be able to get full access to things (and you should probably use your first three perk points on them) and these are the knowledges (arcane, underworld, and the military one). These perks open up options on judging that can lead to some of your judgements becoming agents (like Aventis if you follow the mage path). They also open up other conversation options that can lead to some interesting twists. I would also say that the perks that affect your buy/sell with merchants is also highly useful (for increasing your money to get more schematics and the like).

Underworld gives you various dialogues throughout the game so that's definitely one. Then more potions, and being able to gather more ingredients. For later game you're going to need it

A novelty mostly) I only bump up my inventory space to 75 *Lv20 Inquisition is the Max* After these, you are left with 3 spare Inquisition points to spent. *The 3 Cullen schematics are optional - up to you,but i rather not get em and rest of Josephine's perks are not really worth it ,unnecessarily *Eagle-Eyed is not worth it. *Forward scouts is bad too.

You couldn't do that in DA: Origins (Bioware incorporated the idea into Awakening thanks to the game's most popular mod) Plus, companions don't have skills auto-assigned up to your level when you meet them, making any companion other than the three your start with totally useless, which Origins also had.

At least understand the reason for getting Forward Scouts now. Think I'll be skipping it myself though. The only resource places I'd have missed are in the areas I explored before Skyhold. So think I'll just be looking up where they are or manually exploring them with a mount later. Will just find the rest when I explore the rest of the maps. Even if I didn't wanna complete everything I'll know to look in any area that I haven't explored to complete 'em. Also got all of the dialogue/codex first instead. Realize now that the XP isn't needed but enjoyed seeing and utilizing some of the extra dialogue options to get some agents easier and score some extra affection with the companions. Also getting the money perks early so that I can be sure to buy any extra influence to reach the influence level cap and any gear should I happen to be unlucky with drops. Though it can be a bit punishing (on nightmare) to not have combat perks early on I'm just finding myself overleveling for the difficult parts by completing everything.

Mostly agree with the list, I think this video could be super awesome with like an Honorable Mentions part, where you could classify the usefulness of a few other perks that might be playstyle dependent. Things like the dialogue upgrades which do have the downside of steepening the awful XP curve, but have huge roleplay benefits. Or Forward Scouts which I personally believe is the one of the 5 worst perks in the game. You only need a handful of Logging stands and quarries to do everything you can with them, and they are useless after. I never have a problem finding enough. And I'm really surprised there's no mention of the +1 Skill point for your Inquisitor. But nice video from a fellow Dragon age try-hard that knows way too much about the game :)
@dexternelson9 жыл бұрын
Hmm. I passed on The Short List and went for the schematics under forces. Instead of buying gear, I found it much more cost effective to let Leliana's new agents bring gear from their previous employers for the rare schematics, then focused on crafting rather than buying gear straight up. It also saved me from the 5 point in that category requirement, so I had a few extra perks to spend elsewhere, which I put into acquiring knowledge, specifically Sterling Reputation (+10% more money for items sold to vendors under connections, Enhanced studies under secrets for +50% more xp for each foe studied [retroactive], and Nobility Knowledge back under connections for +50% XP for codex entries and opening up dialog options). And of course maxing out the inquisition tree for that extra skill point is a must lol.

Yep, I pretty much agree with everything in your top 10. I'd maybe slightly change the list position for a couple of them but wouldn't remove any of them. After these, I'd suggest the one that gives your character an extra skill point and the 3 or 4 'knowledge perks. All the rest are pretty useless. Though the wider search area one has some utility, even though it will make virtually no difference in reality. :)

Forward Scouts is a poor perk. This adds additional point-of-interest and "X" marks on your map. You don't need this perk in order to complete any of the landmark quests, and this perk does not add any additional warp points. Only get it if you like the flavor.

i'm not sure the short list is that interesting: glanced quickly in DAI wiki and it seems the stuff it gives you can be found many times in the game. Josephine's sales on the other hand gives you access to the best armor schematics in hissing plains. And for the scout ability, you can always save the point and look out for the locations on internet. the first perks of each category also gives you extra dialogues and increase the xp for all your codex entries, even the ones you already got i think

A little information on The Short List. It does not open up a static set of items on vendors. They are Random from what I can tell. A pool of items that may show up on that vendor (time based supposedly). Also, not that much better than the Sturdy variants. I was excited to finally unlock it but very disappointed after 2 real time days of not seeing a single Superb Armor Recipe on the vendors. (A hat...yeah...I got a superb hat...)

i think forward scouts is a wasted perk imho. you should be exploring everywhere, and if you still can't find it, well look online and there are maps to show where the lumber camps/quarries are. the perks i tend to get are: all the knowledge/dialogue perks (underworld, nobility, etc); the potion perks (both); the focus perks; deft hands; and true grit. these are honestly the best perks out there.

Dude, I am hooked on your class builds! I've subbed and watched every Dragon Age video. I don't feel DA:I does a good job of explaining its stats and the value of each stat for each class and I'm left wondering when I craft my armor.. Should I go with the Dex or cunning for my rogue.. how much Dex/cunning do I want to shoot for? Diablo does a better job of this cuz theres a sheet damage that changes with every change to your gear I'd like to make a request. Can you make a stats video with some explanations of stat values and what to aim for (example, try to get 75% Dex and 25% cunning) or whatever.

very good video, these are good ones but also opinion based. i just started playin again with a new playthru and i actually got the first perk in each category first which allows new dialogue options. ther are actually MANY new choices you can make... that is if you are a lore nut and talk to alot of people. I also easily get deft hands as my top. I actually get that one first with just 1 influence point. Even thou it requires to have 3 points in secrets before u can get it, the hinterlands actually has 3 secret agents in that first zone which are easily obtainable. I think they did this on purpose so you can get that perk early. Anyway yea I think u should try out the new expansion the decent if you havn't tried it yet. Well we all have diffrent prefs i guess but i just feel that more capacity is just a waste of perks. Its not that hard to just jump to a sell point and once you have the gear you need for a long time you dont carry much at all in your inventory after a sell point. And more potions is also a waste unless you are on the absolut hardest lvl. Or have a really shitty team but that is something you can correct. But hey like i said we all have diffrent prefs.

I've really enjoyed your videos on specializations and this one had some really good points about perks. It seems to me though that this kind of Perk layout is more focused on the combat/gameplay and not so much the dialogue, or RP as some might call it. Would you consider the Dialogue Perks useless (sounds harsh) or just not needed to be able to get everything in the game, such as agents or cool story points?

imo inventory capacity should increase the more companions you have. interface is so choking, gearing everyone takes so long because of it. Inv capacity is even more choking when there are so many upgrades

Hi Kinetic, i watched your video about rogue assassin & decided to try it out. But as soon as i got my Deathblow i wanted to try to kill off few enemies as fast as i could, but then it seems Dance of Death got bugged and didn't refund me any stamina for killing my enemies. I tested it few times to be sure my party members didn't kill steal it but it seems it's just not working for me. Did you get same problems & if you did how did you fix them, because it seems like all skills work fine in your video. Ty in advance & sorry for writing comment that is not related to this particular video :)

Hmmmm.... True Grit is not as good as it seems since it doesn't work for all the party but only for the Inquisitor. The focus perks are also not fundamental since you don't either need a focus skill at all (actually the game becomes too easy if you use them). The schematic perks are very very good to have early as they give access to some of the best Tier 2 schematics in the game. The best option is to get the perk for the inquisitor class as soon as you reach Skyhold and craft immediately a strong weapon/set with Tier 2 material (Paragon's Luster can easily be found in Forbidden Oasis, without even fighting). With that setup, then, you can either go a little later directly to Hissing Wastes to acquire Tier 3 schematics for your class (the difference between Tier 3 schematics with Tier 2 material and Tier 2 with Tier 2 is minimal and you waste a lot more; if you cannot acquire yet Tier 3 material it is best to simply use Tier 2 schematics till then, apart for visual reasons). Inventory slots perks are not needed at all. It is a complete waste to carry white weapons as they are sold very cheap and when they start to be sold for some more you have already as much money as you want. The perks for those can be handy later but they surely aren't a top priority. IMO the must have perks are: +4 Potions perk +1 Potion slot perk Deft Hands Warrior/Rogue/Mage schematics (depending on your class and only if taken early; after you get access to Tier 3 schematics reliably they are useless) Short List (by midgame onwards) The good perks are: Focus perks (but these can be skipped if you prefer to not use Focus skills) Tempered Flask (+1 skill point is always handy) All the codex perks as they open up interesting dialogue options (not necessary but handy to have for more RP; they are also good to take when you need a point in the tree to get to the perk you want that requires 4 or 5 points) Perks to be taken when you have spare points: Inventory slot perks True Grit

I spent a point on warrior schematic which really helped me through a large portion of the game until I got tier 3 schematics, now it feels wasted lol. You only need gold for schematics and the mystery box everything else is pretty useless after mid game in the shops.
@lancerd49349 жыл бұрын
Yes, schematic and crafting ingredient perks are a complete waste of time. All the schematics you will ever need are sold from the hidden shop in the hissing wastes. They cost a lot, but since they're the only thing in the game worth spending money on...

I'm planning on doing a nightmare playthrough but don't want to be a 2 handed warrior or an archer, what would you recommend?
@RaZeyLWindBladE10 жыл бұрын
The schematics fyi, seems to be linked with your current level. had my mage schematics first below level 10 and most of the plans i receive are around that level. However, when i took the warrior schematics later when i was lvl 19 thereabouts, i find that the plans given was all around tier 3. I might be mistaken but gonna do another playthrough to test this out. seems like a waste of perk points if this is true. would love to hold on to amazing and rare scematics just by unlocking it. the rest of the perks seems so blase, they dont help much with the gameplay except if you want more backstory. It's good for a first playthrough but on the second and third? I want better combat and item options.

You could do the item duplication and infinite skill point exploit.

Love this game, Skyrim did the "chosen one" very well but they are very few games that do it better then Dragon Age inquisition in my opinion. I just started my second playthrough couple weeks back and am finding some things I missed the first time around plus I romanced Cassandra this time the missions and her romance quests were pretty cool cant wait for the next game.

I am liking this game more and more as I play it but I cannot overlook some of it's design flaws, for example it will not let you review your perks at any moment, ONLY if you have a perk point to spend you can access the perk list. From what I understand so far, someone correct me if I'm wrong, the perk list is also the only way to see your recruited agents. Whatever they where thinking this design choice doesn't make much sense as the whole concept of a war table is to primarily be able to easily review your assets in the field.
@lucasd164610 жыл бұрын
People ignore my comment please cause I'm still a noob and I jumped to conclusions, I was wrong you can review your perks at any time, I was trying to access it while in one of the areas, It's works just fine when your are at the area choice screen.

KineticGTR now that the patch has added a storage chest, do you still recommend getting the antivan inventory upgrade perks?

Thank you so much for this tutorial it actually helps me out a lot I barely bought the Inquisition about let's say 6 to 8 months ago cuz I have the first Dragon Age Ultimate Edition so it took me awhile to finish that one and Dragon Age 2 BioWare special edition at least I don't have to download for these things I wonder if there's any DLC for the Dragon Age Inquisition either way thank you so much honestly I like the second Dragon Age cuz I fell in love with the voice actor that does the elf woman Merrell I'd rather marry an elf woman if they ever existed

@@kiadorphantomwolf6572 Eve Myles. She's also in Broadchurch with David Tennant and Victoria with Jenna Coleman because you don't have to go very far away from Doctor Who for the actors and spin off actors to meet lol. 6 degrees of separation in England is just a half step to the right lol

hahahah, Thank you for putting that in a friendly/civil way. I realize now that this is a pretty debatable topic, but I did say MY Top 10. Different playstyles and priorities for what people want is going to change their personal 10 for sure. Thanks

KineticGTR You're welcome my friend. Nothing wrong with a little friendly criticism. One thing I am noticing on my second play through is i'm going to try and COMPLETE the game rather than beat it...and even since yesterday one perk that I think is pretty essential isn't as vital. We can figure that out together at one point and help the viewers out.
@Flyermilez10 жыл бұрын
RidinSpinaz04 Yes, we plebian viewers need all the help. No seriously, give us your wisdom oh great and wise pioneers of debateable DAI decisions.

Flyermilez The best advice I could give anyone is to go through and play the game yourself...I know it sounds like a cop out but hear me out...even from the time I commented, Ive beaten the game again and thus changed my opinion. At that time I would have said getting the armor schematics from Cullen was more important than having more inventory slots...but if I would have told you that then realized that you can go to one part on the western part of the world map and find amazing armor schematics from a vendor, then I would have felt bad. I think Kinetic would even tell you that discovering this in this game happens way to frequently for a definitive list so for every opinion there's a valid argument against it. The one things I would say get without any change in opinion would be to unlock the conversation trees (the first perk from each officer) first. The reason being is because it completely changes the game and makes things pan out the way they are suppose to happen. Again it's up to the player and everything has it's up or down side but those would be the ones I would recommend getting every play through.

RidinSpinaz04 I don't appreciate being treated like a casual, gosh so mean. lol jk We all know that in games like this that there are many different ways of playing and every way is enjoyable. I appreciate the reply... even if you did treat me like a casual. :P

Hi KineticGTR first of all, thanks for your videos, they are really helpful! I'm not very experienced on RPG's... But I'm taking the time to learn the ropes of it! I just reached Skyhold, my inquisitor is a DD Rogue (level 12) and i'm about to choose an specialization for him; given your vast experience with the game, what specialization would you recommend for a inexperienced DD Rogue like me? Also, am i only able to choose a specialization for the inquisitor, or do i get to choose one for each of my party members?
@miguelespinoza793010 жыл бұрын
At a certain point (probably after unlocking skyhold) you're able to choose a specialization for your inquisitor. Your companions also have specializations but you don't choose the specialization for them. Cassandra is Templar, Vivienne is warmage (OP), Blackwall is Warden (I think) etc.
@KineticGTR10 жыл бұрын
Yep, like Miguel said, your companions will automatically unlock their predetermined specializations. As for your choice, Assassin DD Rogue I think is the most fun. It's a little complicated, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it :)
