Use daggers then: Shadow step/grapple hook (grapple hook requires less points since you'll have points in this tree already)>frost flask>spinning blades to spread frozen>detonators (twin fangs, deathblow, even one of the upgrades for throwing daggers)>fire flask>spam throwing blades>lightning flask. Nothing should be alive but if they are just repeat. If against bosses can drop frost flask as it won't do much but increase durations of other flasks

On my rift mage playthrough I ran with Cassandra. The extra weakness really helped. I also used an electric staff most of the time. Using my way of the rift focus multiple times in the same fight is glorious

I just started a Nightmare run w/ trials as a Mage with the intent to go Rift Mage to give this build or something similar to it a try. How does this fare against groups of enemies that immune to the Shocked condition? Lightning Cage / Chain Lightning into any spell that Weakens wouldn't work then right? What do you do for damage and CC when that whole combo is off the table?

@@RPGBUILDER33 Absolutely isn’t true. Just depends on which dragon and how you build. Having multiple elemental staves helps but I’ve killed 3-4 dragons on nightmare with my rift mage, the key is flanking damage, winters ruin, and energy barrage. The hardest dragon for me so far was the stormcoast one, because that stupid lightning aoe that sticks to you. I’m only level 18 too. Rogues and reavers do kill dragons better though, my reaver eats dragons alive.

Im suprised people dont dip into fire snd ice magic more often to grt thr passives,the stillness passive mixed with sll the barrior passives and the fire barrior sap passive is so lethal,you constantly hsve sheilds snd when you eat them because you have so much of it it amps your damage to rediculous numbers.

The detonates from Mage skill to Mage skill don't generate much damage. It seems the game wants you to setup a combo , and then detonate it with another class skill . Like setup frozen with a mage, and detonate it with a Warrior produces a much larger detonate explosion.

Really awesome video. The problem I always seem to have with rift mage is once enemies are asleep, they aren't weakened and my mana no longer shoots up since I dont get the recovery of sleeping targets. Any way to fix this break of the chain?

Yeah, that's when you need fade step(upgrade.2), I would say the CC is more important than mana recovery

I tried doing something similar but I always had trouble with mind blast upgrade. It sometimes doesn’t give barrier. Have you experienced this as well? And do you have an idea how it’s supposed to work?

You need to hit a bonch of mobs to generate decent amount of barrier, it also fades fast, but it does provide barrier each time

Why do you choose mind blast over something like fire mine - flaming array? Also why don't you use blizzard or energy barrage? If you were to use them, which abilities would you take out? I'm starting my Rift Mage today but I'm still quite new.

This is a control build, and rift mage is usually the CC class, just not good with damage. If you want to deal a lot of damage, you'd better play knight enchanter

@@RPGBUILDER33 yah your build doesnt work vs enemies immune to status effect or immune to cc. Which there are plenty if you turn on trials and play on nightmare or are just playing the trespacer dlc

@@proudmoore5254 if you want consistent damage just use Knight enchanter or if you want to abuse the fire mine + walking bomb masterwork combo (which doesnt work on fire immune enemies) play necromancer. Tbh most of your consistent dmg on mages on nightmare will come from spirit damage based abilities, not from combos the other damage type are all situationnal due to immunities on nightmare. Also his build doesnt work against undead either, cause they immune to sleep, nor will it work against status immune or cc immune enemies, which there are plenty in dlc or if you just turn on some of the trials. Also walking bomb is best used on a rogue or a warrior as a masterwork cause the dmg from the masterwork is based on the dmg of the hit that proc'ed it. Making them be better at using walking bomb than a necromencer himself. So, ye just use knight enchanter with wrath of lovias staff pump crit dmg on it with like maybe 16% crit chance and use a superior prowler armor with max cunning if u want dmg. Also dont bother with ring of doubt, it only works if you stop attacking and slightly move in between each cast, plus it make ur party member not follow u around. Overall mage is a bad class in a game where damage is more important on nightmare difficulty. Is all good if u play on normal or hard tho, but nightmare? I wouldnt play a mage on nightmare unless you wanna die consistently and feels like ur party member are better than you.

@@proudmoore5254 tldr of my previous post : mage sucks on nightmare. On that difficulty ur damage become inconsistent due to immunities. And with trials on and in dlcs a lot of enemies are immune to cc or status effects, so you cant combo them for big damage. If you wanna play nightmare, dlcs or turn on trials then better play a rogue or a warrior, cause mages sucks in those scenario. Kinda sad, that game balance goes out the window in those, almost like they didnt balance the game properly and made certain classes explicitely better than others in those scenario.

So how do you do it ? Been trying your build for months now but i still dont get infinite combos due to my party member waking enemies up as soon as i make them fall asleep. Is it tactic setup ? Or something else ? I have my party setup to follow my inquisitor and my tank to defend itself, i also am using cole instead of sera, as an archer that is. Even tried to bring sera in, instead of another mage, using her as an archer that mostly use her lightning flask along with basic attacks, poisons and longshot + throwing blade with flask of fire. But so far i havent see any results like yours...also wanted to know if this was working on nightmare and how you deal with enemies immune to cc or to weakness, especially in the trespacer dlc, because this doesnt seems to work against them nor against dragon for that matter, since you cant make them fall asleep or cc them nor does it work with trials on

There are materials for each class of armor that removes its class restriction. For medium armor, if you craft it with snoufleur skin as the base material, any class can wear that piece of armor. For Heavy armor its Silverite and I forget what mage armor uses.

There’s just one problem with your build. Same rings do not stack. You’re better off with a crit damage ring and a crit rate ring. So two rings of slicing = 10% more damage while a ring of slicing and a crit rate ring = 10% more damage and crit rate. Anyway that’s the biggest outlier I’ve noticed that I do care to point out.
