Hey everyone- I do want to make a quick correction- as of right now the option that I was talking about, which gives a 'you chose X path', is NOT actually able to be turned off! Or at least when I tried now, I couldn't figure it out. RIP.
@Yuoaman2 күн бұрын
Damn, I wasn't planning on disabling them but I can definitely see how having the game spell out the impact of a choice could remove the wonder of discovery for some people. I imagine patching in that option could be pretty easy, though, so hopefully we see them include that in a post-release patch.

I was watching a gameplay where Harding was clearly anxious around Rook and the subject of her new powers. And then the tooltip pops up and says "HARDING IS FEELING ANXIOUS ABOUT HER NEW POWERS" nooo, really...why is it necessary to spell it out?!

"Veilguard isn't perfect, but that doesn't change the fact that I still love it." I think this will be the general consensus for us fans who watch Caitie's channel. Like we all know that we're going to play this game because of the lore and story and the emotions that this franchise has made us feel. It won't be a game for everyone, but from Caitie's review I feel like this game was made for us in mind and I'm so thankful that there's still a small community of the Dragon Age who will definitely enjoy the game.

For real. I’ve been trying to say this on those ‘review’ channels who just post reactive things to get views. I’d take the reviews of channels dedicated to BioWare/dragon age over channels who’ve probably played the game once and decided to join the hate bandwagon.

This is a great review, IMO. You say, "how can I be impartial," but this is a balanced and fair review in my perspective - being a long-term fan doesn't exclude impartiality, and in fact informs a better review. I've been a fan since Origins and have a similar position to yours with the previous games, and this review is frankly quite informative. You covered DAV's strengths and weak spots fairly and have relayed some important information to fans and newcomers. For my part, you confirmed what I suspected: that the game has suffered some cuts for time or budget, and that some parts of the story don't have enough breathing room. I'm probably not going to go for the Emmrich romance route but am glad to hear that it's great and seems strongly-written. The length of the game also sounds about right, closer to Origins than to DAI (which bloated a lot with billions of side quests). It's very informative as a whole! I can hear your excitement throughout, and perhaps hints of bittersweet acceptance of the ending at the end there. Oh boy. This one's a ride, isn't it? The way you talk about the finality of the ending chapter says a lot. Don't worry about your gameplay review because you used super easy mode for exactly what it's for, that's valid as playing on hard or nightmare. lol

"Veilguard isn't perfect, but that doesn't change the fact that I still love it." That's the thing - there's not a single video game (or other piece of media) that's perfect. In line with this, every Dragon Age has flaws but doesn't stop them being among my favourite games and IPs.

I think we've gotten to a point where the positivity of any game experience is automatically undermined by a class of consumers seeking to criticize first and enjoy later. To all of you; this is a genuine invitation to start enjoying things again, and stop worrying about something being "enough." You sound tired. Stop ruining games for yourself and others, and try enjoying the great experiences developers put into their games. Because we all know even if the game looks and plays like a PS1 game y'all are gonna drop 100s of hours playing it regardless... This isn't about telling people to not have opinions of the game, but understand that the more you look for flaws in any game the more you will find them. I also do not think it needs to be like an Origins 2, "go back to their roots," I just think the game needs to be what Bioware does best- hella good branching narrative, good characters, good stakes, beautiful score, good questing, and something that makes you think and care. The combat will never satisfy everyone. I know they are changing it up again, and I hope they do it well, but that's not what sticks with a person over the years- it's the story people think about!

"Don't worry, the villains won't fall flat in their introduction like Corypheus did" Me remembering Corypheus' awesome introduction, walking through flames, badass soundtrack, pet dragon, big gravitas to his voice: "...uhhh, alright" xD I can understand the "You get too powerful too fast", though personally I don't see that applying to our character - in fact not only was it those supporting us, it made sense to gather skilled and influential people for, y'know, literal hole in the sky caused by an ancient magister xD It's why I'm nervous for our Rook, as they're tackling a much bigger threat, and the devs surely aren't going to copypaste Inquisition's path but ramped up tenfold to match the threat. I'll try to take your word that we feel the threat more than a visible-from-all-locations skyhole though :P Glad to hear there'll be more Dragon Age, but I'm honestly not sure where things can go after the heights of this story.

Love what you say about how the game isn't perfect, and that it does have its issues, but so does the other games, and you still love them. cuz that's exactly how I've been feeling about the DA series as a whole. Every DA game has their own faults and issues, and alot of fans seems to be overlooking this, or more accurately, riding origins like it's the biggest masterpiece ever conceived in gaming history, despite its major flaws, and refusing to admit it, comparing every game with origins after. Almost makes it seem that for some if the DA game isn't origins 2.0 it's gonna be trash, leaving no room for experimentation or growth. Personally I have my reservations about veilguard for a few reasons, mainly story related ones, since that is döthe driving point for all DA games, and will sadly end up waiting until the game goes on sale before getting it, altho for more economic reasons rather then my reservations about it. (I mean, it's price is on ubisoft level of ridiculous) none the less, it's nice to see someone who loves this series and it's lore as much as I do be so excited about it, despite all the negativity surounding this title.

I'm crying, what you said at the end, it resonated with me deeply. Thanks you for this review and sharing your feelings. I am so excited for this game, but I also know I will feel broken at the end of it, knowing it's an end of a big chapter. We've been waiting so long.

Thank you Caitie for this amazing review. I can't wait for Veilguard. Hearing your comments about the companions has me really excited. Was in tears at the end of the video hearing your final comments on how this means to you

I got so emotional watching this!!! Your channel was integral to me discovering and falling in love with dragon age, and to see us finally reach this moment is incredible. Your parting message has me feeling all sorts of emotions, and I'm so happy you got to experience this 🥺

I certainly didn't expect a review to make me cry 😮 Thank you for this beautiful video, I can't wait to see what's in store on Thursday.

I feel the same way about most BioWare games. It doesn't matter if a game/story/piece of music hits anyone but me. The green ending of Mass Effect 3 is perfect, and I've been chasing that feeling since. I hope to have a bit of that in Veilguard - just a bit of unified catharsis.

When it comes to lore, there is no other channel i like and trust more than this one. But as a game review, i do not believe a single word.

Don’t believe what exactly? That she feels the story gave her a satisfactory ending? That she liked the characters? That some parts of the story could have used more room to breathe? Those are all clearly stated as her opinions. I don’t see why you wouldn’t believe she’s stating her honest opinion on those completely subjective things that all tie into her wheel house of lord and story focus.

Let’s be honest you can’t be here expecting an “objective” review, she basically said so herself. But as for believing she’s being genuine? Yeah I absolutely do. I mean just listen to her, her love for this series is evident in her voice if nothing else.

@@AlleluiaElizabeth Have you ever had a friend or family tell you everything is all right but you know it’s really not? That’s how this feels. To be fair, i do believe the “it’s not a perfect game” part.

@@ricardoreyes9470 i cannot for the life of me imagine listening to this and even thinking of implying she wasn't genuine in her words. like how jaded, how miserable do you have to be to hear her almost in tears at the end over her emotions and say she's not being genuine? wow.

Im typing as i watch this video but like you i have immersed myself in this world. I experienced DAO in 2013 and since then i have been an Avid Dragon Age fan. Whether its what i wanted or not, I've waited 10 years for this this game. Thank you for being honest! Your review fills my heart with hope so far 🙏🏾

As someone who somehow pushed Corephyus off a cliff and therefore skipped the final fight, I agree with how underwhelming that boss was lol

I think what you said in the ending echoes the feelings of a lot of folks who play these games. And while I'm excited Veilguard's getting high marks all around by big press outlets, it's reviews like these by people who are emotionally invested in the world and story that really inform me if I'm going to like this game or not. Thanks for what you do for the community (I'd love to hear what you didn't like about Rook originally!) and I hope you continue to do Dragon Age videos after this.

Honestly Caitie, I've been following you and have loved your videos for 10 years and while I'm blooming with excitement for Veilguard, I just feel so happy for you that you got to experience all that. Hoping for many more DA lore years to come!

Thank you... SO much. I've been listening to your videos for a long time, as well as your podcast. However, I'm not usually active when it comes to engaging and commenting on people's videos and posts. This time though, I felt like I had to say something. I've been a fan of Dragon Age since the very beginning and, to hear such heartfelt and honest thoughts on the latest entry, is all I could've hoped for.

The ending of the video was perfect. I feel very happy for you, I started played DA in 2018, but I have no doubt that for people who started playing DA since day one, your channel was one of these things that keep people excited for the next Dragon Age for 10+ years of wait. For me, after 6 years, surely. I hope I like it was well as you did. No game (or movie, show, book...) is perfect - but as long as they brings the experience we need in the moment, it's great! So, thanks for everything and hoping that future gameplays bring even more joy!

Thank you for that cute Solavellan advice but. Felt like you were holding my hands to tell me.😅 I qppreciate your review, Caitie. I want to take my time, let go of FOMO and enjoy Rook, Lucanis, the Veilguard, and everything this game has to offer, even if it looks different than what I might be expecting.

For what it’s worth, if BioWare is following the five act story structure (which I assume they are based on their initial statements) and we consider DA2 to not have been one of the five acts (as it was originally planned to be DLC IIRC), then Veilguard is basically the climax/change point of the story. The place where it sort of gives you the big spectacle but closes out what we sort of thought the story was going to be about across the entirety of it, and instead the next chapters will further recontextualize things for a catharsis/catastrophe final act. Based on your review, it sounds like they really nailed that.

Emmrich was my pick the moment I saw him so I can't wait xD Rushed to comment this before finishing the video. But the closing segment was lovely. Dragon age is magical for me too, I can't think of many other game series that I feel this attached too. It's ridiculous but the dragon age companions feel a bit like friends and family to me lmao

learning that the emmrich romance sticks the landing is the biggest joy i can have. i have, for so long, been so annoyed at the lack of older men romantic options in video games. on top of that he's kind, romantic, nerdy, AND gothic? these tick all my boxes!

Glad to hear confirmation from someone potentially in-the-know that this wasn't intended as the last...but it feeling like a love-letter also has me nervous that it COULD be the last, regardless of intention - it's all up to the audience. And - for whatever reason - they settled on a prevailingly unpopular "let's ignore your worldstates because we respect you so much it all needs to stay wrapped up in your precious head" rhetoric that seems to have pissed off most. My only worry is that its enough to impact the future of BW and DA. Do you want this to be the final game, BW? This is how you make it certain that this is your last. And I think they know it and have known it. Still! I'm excited to play and am sure I will get a helluva lot I'll enjoy out of this. I do feel reassured that i'll at least enjoy it myself. But my worries for the series and company are - unfortunately - still there. Theres a lot of people who wont even give it a chance after the reprioritzation of prior player agency and decisions.
