A Rook Solas romance option woulda been great. Cuz of the tension is could’ve brought. It could be an option if you didn’t have Lavellan go for him in Inquisition. Idc about wether it woulda made sense narratively or not. This game needs more interesting content. If that was an option I’d have applauded them for it.

@jord839Ай бұрын
@@eastbow6053 Yeah... no. What you described sounds like a really terrible path to take a character who was revealed to have been tricking us and had complicated morals. If they went your path then that would make him ultimately right and a good person all the way through. I liked Solas quite a lot in Inquisition before and then especially after his reveal as a more complicated person, but once you make him complicated you need to follow that. Veilguard's not perfect, but Solas is one part that they definitely did right. What you described also sounds really dumb in terms of anything but a final possible game in the series. You cannot have "Titans Return" as an end state and ever hope to have another game because "No Titans" and "All Titans Back" is such a huge difference to the setting. They couldn't even handle the Dark God Baby, what makes you think Bioware of any era could handle that?

There was no time to develop the bond with Solas in this game. Solas and the Inquisitor had much more time, since it takes a decade just to explore the Hinterlands.
@pilotg2075Ай бұрын
They didn't write the plot or Rook in a way for that to be able to happen IMO. Solas can fall for Inquisitor Lavellan because she resonates with his true self (Wisdom), is kind, curious, always asking him questions and taking an interest in him when nobody else does. She sees past the mask, walks into his dreams, and surprises him with her wisdom and affection. She speaks in his same language (elven and the Hallelujah cadence). She becomes as mythological as he is. She finishes the duet of his heart in the end, a Hallelujah verse in perfect elven. Rook is set up as someone who only sees the mask of Fen'harel, who Solas never lets his guard down for and uses like a tool. To my disappointment, Rook is written as kind of heroic but not that bright, and they don't get to spend much time with Solas, which doesn't give them much of a chance to appeal to Solas' better side. I think it could work in a well written fanfiction that changes the story a lot, but in the game, they just can't connect on a deeper level.
@mattphoenix4702Ай бұрын
@@pilotg2075Solas “learned” from his mistake of letting himself get too close to the Inquisitor (either romantically or platonically). Rook was always just a tool to Solas. Even if you earn his approval he doesn’t really let you close. He is always intending to betray Rook in the end. His distance would make developing any sort of relationship unlikely

@mattphoenix4702Ай бұрын
Yes and no. If you don’t take the time to go through all his memories and earn his approval he certainly seems that way. Putting in the effort to get him to open up (and a high-approval Inquisition import) leads to seeing a lot more of the depth you got from him in Inquisition. The Redemption ending is absolutely everything a person who chose to redeem Solas a decade ago wanted and needed to end the story. You aren’t going to get this ending by mistake though, you have to specifically be aiming for it and jump through a number of hoops to make it happen. To a new player I can definitely see how Solas seems 1-note or flat. Veilguard really didn’t do a good job of capturing the feel of the world and the soul of the characters in general.
@adamsirin7249Ай бұрын
@mattphoenix4702 No that's far besides the point. It's just bad writing. Solas was fascinating because the story in Inquisition alluded to him being a mortal that gained great strength on his own terms and sought to free people from the propaganda of the 'gods'. He even mentions the village of his birth. There's a dignity to his character and it is only on very, very rare occasions that he offers anything resembling an apology. In Veilguard, he is written to be largely without principles, more like a generic Loki from Marvel movies. Poor dialogue even. "People die. It's what they do" "I won't lose to a mere mortal", when Solas whole character is that of not looking down upon mortals and mortality. And he's CONSTANTLY apologising for wrongdoing and screwing up all over the place. Also, that wolf transformation. Great ideation but extremely poor execution.

@@adamsirin7249 I am so tired of typing this but PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD remember that is this game suffered a great amount of losses, it’s a miracle it came out at all. All the people I see nitpicking it never seem to even acknowledge that: 1. The game got almost completely scrapped several years into development, destroying a lot of people’s hard work 2. BioWare has been hemorrhaging staff, between people leaving of their own accord and staff getting canned because of poor management 3. No doubt pressure from EA forced them to put this game out because BioWare has unfortunately been plagued with bad releases back to back. I wouldn’t be surprised if BW dies as a studio in the next few years So before you start throwing around accusations of “poor writing”, acknowledge that what happened to Veilgaurd is far more nuanced than you think. I’m not saying the writing doesn’t have issues, I’m saying that maybe people should stop pretending to be ✨gaming elitists✨ when ya’ll won’t even acknowledge the struggles a piece of art or a game went through and how that affects the quality of the game. Cause I don’t see you or people like you say anything about the harm the gaming industry and consumers like you do to video games… you’re just as “one dimensional” as Solas 🙄
@dianadrozd175Ай бұрын
@@adamsirin7249 Not at all. There’s been a ton of codex entries and Cole’s banter implying that Solas was a Spirit of Wisdom and Mythal’s second-in-command. People have been theorizing this for over 10 years. He even mentions missing court intrigue, which fits since he was part of the Evanuris’ inner circle from the beginning. To the Inquisitor, he shows his “Wisdom persona” because he needs to stay close and keep an eye on the situation. He offers his knowledge and friendship to achieve that. In DAV, he’s fully in his “Pride persona.” To Rook, he’s the Dread Wolf, and he uses them as a pawn. Let’s not forget-this is a man who killed his best friend in cold blood because they became a liability to his mission (The Masked Empire novel featuring Felassan was released before DAI). Solas can be both of these things. He had to rely on wisdom and cunning (becoming a trickster) to outmaneuver the Evanuris because he couldn’t match their power.
@adamsirin7249Ай бұрын
@@dianadrozd175 No..... which banter exists that references Solas being a spirit taking a body in Inquisition? Solas even tells the inquisition the village of his birth, Leliana's notes. Also in trespasser, in the eluvians and crossroads, the sanctum of fenharel makes it rather explicit that the evanuris are mortals that rely on propaganda.

This game is such a shitshow. It completely erased any real grit or harshness, everything was sanitized and so much lore was destroyed through mere codex's. Not to mention almost everything you worked to change or protect in the previous games was made to not matter. It is a bland, pompus, pandering fluff piece that should have no right to be called a dragon age game.
