You have no idea how special an experience I had as a teenager anticipating DAI watching your every video, commenting on everything, devouring nonstop dragon age stuff, and I just have to say the joy I feel seeing this next game reveal AND you returning to experience this with us like we did a decade ago I could never have predicted. Dragon age inquisition was my entire life well before it came out and we were such a huge part of that. This may be weird but I feel like your return to be signals that this game is gunna be the real deal and not an Andromeda type experience. I was not ready for the nostalgia and emotions they would bring lol

I remember coming to this channel… about a decade ago (my god) and getting all kinds of hyped with Dragon Age, Mass Effect and the Witcher coverage. Damn, Blackwall lives as “Ser Beefcakes” rent-free in my mind because of you! I can’t overstate how happy I was to see this pop up on my youtube home page. Welcome back MD! I think Varric looks AWESOME! This is 10 years later, he is now 52. To me he is very sexy, love the hair and the gear, including how upgraded Bianca looks. I think the architecture is fantastic. I love how they did connect how it ended in Trespasser to the beginning of this one. I will admit, even though I love how Varric and Scout Harding look, the companions did make me pause, the first thing that came to mind was Overwatch style or Fortnite, but this was from earlier on, never know. Loved the fighting style in DA2, so this style is great with me, and it looks like as you level there will be a lot more options. I think a lot of people are not giving it a chance. These companion backstories, I think, will help us open up the world and add to the storyline and lore, which we all love so much. Looking forward to playing and seeing more of you MD, very much missed you both!

Good to see you back! I enjoyed what I saw but I agree with you they needed to show more abilities in combat. I think your chat is too negative and only saw the negative but I liked the art style and environments. I also thought the characters looked good. I think a lot of people were ready to hate the game. Happens too often to games and the internet is way too negative. I tend to keep a more open mind until I play the game myself. Some stuff I liked, some stuff was ok at best. I do miss the ability to control party members and I wanted to see class system/character creator. So hopefully they show more in the future.

As for the live chat that happened but we can still see, yes DA: The Veilguard is Frostbite engine.(which explains the art style) Mass Effect 4 will be on unreal engine.

@@nicksadler824 You can see certain similarities with Inquisition, but it does look better especially when you look at Harding's face compared to her Inquisition face so, the latest iteration of frostbite engine did wonders for sure or they just figured out how to work the engine better for a game like Dragon Age and I mean after 3 restarts to Dreadwolf I hope they learned it. Depending on if you like it or not, the art style is that way because of the engine used, if they used Unreal Engine then we would've seen a different game entirely with a more darker look no doubt.

Good to see you back MD, it feels like it's been 20 years since I first came across your channel around the same time you uploaded the first Mass Effect Talks videos. I definitely feel you on the DA2 vibes, but also getting a lot of ME2/ME3 vibes in some of the gameplay and world design aspects which is interesting. So for some more fun context to your thoughts, whilst I'm not working at Bioware I have an idea of where development is at through old industry friends that are. They absolutely could have showed higher level gameplay, this is not a case of them only having the start of the game in a presentable state for something like this. They (BioWare/EA whomever is in charge of marketing beats) actively chose the weird marketing they've been doing. The new (not terrible but worse) name, the weird (not terrible, but just ill advised) reveal trailer, and now this not terrible but kind of nothing gameplay trailer. We already knew through public information that this was going for a more action, somewhat spectacle fighter inspired gameplay design so that wasn't a surprise. We found out that it's pretty, and that story stuff will indeed happen. But that's about it, level 1 gameplay was absolutely not the right decision and it baffles me. As for your thoughts about the release date, I don't have huge worries in terms of the game being content complete in fall, it's more if they will be happy with the polish levels at the time or if they will want to put it back in the oven for a month or two for a spit shine. I would give it a solid 50/50, but highly doubt we will see big delays even if there is one. The team seems pretty confident, probably the most confident BioWare has been for at least a decade.

THANK YOU so much for pointing out how limited this gameplay preview was in regards to actual gameplay!!! Your comments are so on point. So many people are overlooking this, it’s crazy. We only saw a LEVEL ONE, one class, one ability, no companion control, no combos, no true strategy either… it was underwhelming and repetitive hacking and slashing. Also the enemies were uninteresting and again, too cartoony/juvenile styled not horrifying or intimidating. Imo this preview was not it. I feel they’re just trying to hook our nostalgia for old characters in this (what should be called STORY preview) rather than show us actual content. The game needs to stand on its own and so far it’s faltering.

Should’ve taken more from games like FFVII Remake series when it comes to combat. Stagger meters to enhance combat tension and generate excitement, different play styles, targeting individual enemy parts for each character. Best RPG combat in modern gaming is in those games currently. Should take a few hints from Witcher 3 as far as side missions as well. No reason Witcher 3 and FFVII Remake series should seem more like Dragon Age than Dragon Age does.

As someone that played all of the dragon age games, I can already tell that I don't mind this change. I never liked the pausing and the tactical combat part of DAO. I loved the decisions, characters and story of the first game but not the combat. DA2 was just disappointing, the combat looked flashy but it was an overly focused story on Hawke and his family and all of the customization of your character, their race/background was gone. So it was the worst one IMO... Inquisition was the best of the original trilogy, graphically and story wise, so many world altering things happen in that game. The tactical combat was still there for people who wanted it but I never felt the need to use it. I could just focus on leveling my own character and trust my companions to provide decent support on my adventures. I had all the character customization I wanted (race, background, looks, voices, class) And I could make big decisions that had a big impact on the world and characters. I definitely did not want this to go back to the way it was in DAO, Yes BG3 is an amazing game that I love but not every game has to be like BG3, in BG3 encounters can slow down the entire pace of the game because of its turn based nature. Inquisition's biggest mistake was the amount of filler and bloat, useless filler quests that didn't add anything meaningful to the game and open world that at times felt like an mmo. A more focused experience that takes everything that worked well in inquisition is what I want in this new Dragon Age game and it looks like that's what we're getting. A game series needs to evolve, or there's the risk of stagnating. DA2 and DAI were already pushing the franchise in this direction and it looks like this one finishes the job. And I for one am all for it, I want a focused RPG with great characters and customization with branching choices that allow me to have a real impact on the world and the characters in it. Choice and consequence with some well done romance side stories. A story that rewards people who have played all the games and that know much about the lore and the big players in the Dragon Age world.

When we meet solas he is helping varric fight demons. The first tip is he knows the most about the mark and seems evasive. I had read a mage betrays us again on Twitter before playing inquisition so I was reading into it but solas was stand offish to me. Red flag two. Solas has an argument with Cole where Cole keeps saying he likes demons and his reaction makes him look suspect. Flag three.

I really am excited and concerned like you said they showed way too much story, they should have just focused on gameplay. I feel like they should have release small videos of gameplay and allow feedback from fans to help improve it. The ability wheel was very concerning as we couldn't see any special abilities and that annoys me. As for Fall 2024 absolutely not it will come out somewhere around March-June 2025. I really pray Bioware and EA have things under control cause I'm gonna be so heart broken if it fails
