It's so funny though. Adding pronouns and top surgery scars to the game can't possibly be that hard. Yet they act as if it was a Sisyphean task. I feel like they use it as an excuse to put less effort into the game itself or, for example, the rest of the characters creator...

It is very easy to implement. They intentionally make a big deal out of such small things to prepare an active defense to any and all criticism. For example, if you don't like the style or quest design or feel like the game is not of good quality or doesn't stand up to it's predecessors? It's because you didn't like the surgery top scars, not because of the thought out valid criticism you just gave. These devs, publishers and everyone at these companies have been perpetual victims since birth. They genuinely believe they can do no wrong, that anything they do is perfect and that just because they work on something, it must be great and they are owed sales and success.

There's a clear difference between natural diversity and forced diversity. How these people cannot see this is beyond me. Games like Dragon Age aren't meant to be feel-good and full of sparkles. I want my gritty, dark fantasy full of conflict and what "they" perceive as "offensive". I do not want present-day politics in my _fantasy_ games. And if I want something lighthearted, I go play Zelda BOTW. Also, it's not just "normies". I'm a woman, and gay, and I am beyond fed up with these activists. This isn't representation. It's a caricature, filled with annoying clichés, serving to stroke the ego of these creatively bankrupt narcissists who have barricaded themselves in their echo chambers. I've been playing video games for 30+ years. I don't need to see "myself" in video games. I also don't need to identify with a character to enjoy a game. I'm nothing like Trevor from GTA5 or the Dark Urge from BG3, yet playing as them was fun! It's called escapism. Their "inclusion" excludes most people, even those in the LGBT "community". Stop saying you're doing it for "us". Who is "us" anyway? The obnoxious, loud contenders for the oppression olympics you see and hear screaming on TikTok or Twitter? As soon as I saw the character creator in action the words "selectively inclusive" came to mind. And yes, the first word negates the second. I sincerely hope that there is a modder out there who can expand & tweak those sliders so we can have a truly diverse range of options. But WHATEVER you do...in the name of all that's good & holy, DO NOT remove the top scars! Your mod will be banned & anyone who attempts this afterward will be suspect in the eyes of Nexus. Don't make the "woke" mistake of putting politics before the art. Tbh, the sheer creative laziness of adding top scars to advocate for trans acceptance truly galls me. It also belies their lack of skill when it comes to writing. Want to see me do better? I thought of this as I watched this video. It wasn't hard, but it's a bit lengthy, so uninterested parties should stop here. George R.R. Martin once said that all good fantasy has some basis in reality. So what reality is a person who wants to fully transition from one gender to another truly facing? The answer is a long & dangerous process involving therapy, hormone replacement & finally, major & invasive surgery. Anyone travelling this road is commiting to a journey of both risk & sacrifice. So how do you translate this to the world of Thedas without without breaking it's lore & worldbuilding the way the inclusion of top scars does? The answer is all right there in the lore of the Fade, Lyrium, & magic, & 2 of the companions in The Veilguard are the perfect facillitators for this. Who are they? Emmerich & Taash. Let's begin. The premise is a full on companion quest involving multiple companions as central protagonists. Taash is presented as being non-binary, which is both immersion & world breaking. So instead, present Taash as a female who wants to become male. Her reasons could stem from being a devout follower of the Qun, (Women don't fight, yet she is by nature a skilled & courageous warrior.) To an attraction to the same gender, to an innate sense of being incomplete or any combination therof. This is emminently possible in the world of Thedas, but it ain't easy. The reason magic is so feared & controlled in Thedas is the fear of the mage becoming posessed. Posession can be by a spirit (which is sometimes voluntary.) or a demon. (Which is always disasterous.) Yet, in Nevarra, there is a place called The Grand Necropilous which is a city of the dead. It's populated by spirits who are tended to & guided by mages known as the Mortalitasi, & within this order is a subset of mages called the Mournwatch. These mages often allow spirits to posess objects, skeletons & the like for a variety of reasons & Emmerich is a member of this subset. So how does the transition take place? The process requires travelling to the Grand Necropilous, approaching the Mournwatch, & under the guidance of 1 of it's mages, allowing the posession (but not control) of the transitioner by a spirit of the opposite gender. A spirit with unfinished business in the physical world might well agree to this arrangement. The transitioner would then recieve a potion of alchemical ingredients that would repress feminine attributes dissolved in Lyrium to increase that person's connection to the spirit within. This is combined with the wearing of runes will both draw out & enhance the masculine aspects of the spirit to the point that a physical transformation becomes possible. This ain't no "take these antidepressants & call me in the morning" type of treatment tho'. It's prolonged, dicey & fraught with the possibilities of "clusterfuk." Which is where the quest comes in. Taash meets Emmerich, who agrees to help, of course, but from the beginning, poop goes sideways. Despite Emmerich's knowledge & experience, he is decieved by a powerful & clever Desire demon, who takes posession of Taash & attacks the party. 1st boss fight...subdue Taash without killing Taash. Like I said, dicey. Once that's done & Taash is restrained conversing with the Demon soon shows that a typical exorcism would be useless. You've gotta go to the fade. Thanks to the Veil being all torn up even non-mages can access the Fade & an Elluvian can get you there. But which one will get you to where the Demon is? For that answer you need to go to the Crossroads with Bellara to help figure shit out & find the correct portal while fighting puzzles & solving enemies culminating in a mini-boss fight with one of the Desire demon's more capable minions. Now it's time to enter the fade, so the party gets reconfigured for the task at hand. The Fade journey can be long or short, but the 2 stage bossfight will be brutal, culminating in a 2nd stage transformation as the party is nearly wiped out. That's when a heroic male spirit shows up to help. Who, you ask? Depends. Who did you leave in the Fade during Inquisition? Was it Hawke? Warden Logaine from Origins? The random Warden? Regardless, together you smite the Desire demon & the heroic spirit takes it's place. Now you have 2 companions in 1 body. A most favorable outcome. (Oh yeah...You nixed that choice & consequence, didn't you Bioware? Shame on you.) The quest doesn't end here tho'. Taash's transition continues thruout a major portion of the main arc.We'll get to see Taash get bigger, grow more muscular, aquire new abilities & even grow a beard as the Heroic Spirit within engages in dialogue with both Taash & the other companions as they help him take care of that unfinished business. For Hawke it could be a final farewell with Varric, for Logaine a goodbye to his daughter & an apology to Alistair, for the random Warden a punch in the face to that git of a Warden Commander at Weisshaupt. For the end of the quest I envision the Hero departing for the Fade, followed by a drinking party in his remembrance, with the finale being Tassh's trouser dropping reveal to the thunderous applause of all the party goers. Mind you...I came up with this as a person who thinks this transition stuff is far too common, that pronouns are enforced as a means of control & dosing minors with hormones & their blockers is child abuse. But as a writer, I'm able to see beyond the sparks of whatever axe I'm grinding. Can you, Bioware? I guess we'll see.

When this "woke" trend started I thought it was just a weird artistic choice by a studio or two. One of my friends hit the nail on the head commenting on it "I think they're doing it because it's easier to just copy and paste a stereotype than to design an interesting character, and you get brownie points on social media." Back then it additive to what we had, oftentimes something you didn't even have to interact with if you didn't want to. I think this is the best approach if devs want to include it. Not to mention, this isnt the biggest gripe with the game for most of us, I'll just ignore Taash and thats it, but the real crimes are the disneyfication of the game, the bastardization of the Qunari, the shift from a dark fantasy story with gore, adult options, consequences, you being able to be a "bad hero" to...pixar heroism that can do no wrong, choose no wrong. Someone made a good statement in a video saying: "This game is God of War meets Guardians of the Galaxy" and its the best description I've heard. The combat is action centered and flashy like in GoW, but the atmosphere, the companions, the dialogue is Marvel levels of jokes and funny. Very tiny correction: In Metal Gear Solid ”The Boss” and "Big Boss" are two different characters. The blonde woman in the white/silver sneaking suit, the last boss of MGS3, held the title of "The Boss." After defeating her, "Snake" (Also known as "Naked Snake") was given the title of "Big Boss." So by now you're feeling a bit weirded out. You thought you were getting an rpg, but it turns out its... its all weirdly basketball related somehow. All in all, you're not really invested in basketball but you wish anyone engaging with a good time. But then the next game does it too. And again. And again, but this time even the bad guys are in on it, and the last boss keeps talking about how much they hate basketball, and saying they want to completely destroy basketball forever. And again, but now they've included specific basketball stuff in the character editor. Which team does your character belong to? Oh, and look, we've made sure that the character is a giant basketball this time ! I mean sure, you can turn it off, but it wont be the same in regards to the context of the game... So you start to get pretty tired of basketball. You start avoiding it a bit, seems Asia isnt too into the basketball hype, so you start playing more Asian games. You were excited for some title that was coming, but on release it turns out that its all basketball stuff again. So by now, you're really, really fed up with basketball. You want to push back. You want stuff without basketball for once, like in the good old days. Now replace basketball with "woke stuff", and you'll get it. It's not that people don't think trans people shouldn't be treated nicely. It's that it's contiouusly being rubbed in your face like it's the best thing since sliced bread. Remember a time when games had cool stories, and had characters that may not have looked like you, but are sure as hell relatable? I sure do, but that was before the dark times. Before people or groups like Sweet Baby Inc. started taking over this industry. Remember a time when movies and shows had cool stories, and had characters that may not have looked like you, but are sure as hell relatable? I sure do, but that was before the dark times. Before people and groups like any DEI group ever, started taking over the industry. I played a lot of games over the 29 years of my white male life, on this very spherical Earth, and none of this crap was ever an issue until a few years ago. The only thing that people would ever really complain about in my time growing up, was if a game didn't have a very compelling 'cool' factor. If it was 'cool' enough, then these game companies would thrive on that success and capitalize on that 'cool' factor they created, but if it didn't have the 'cool' factor that was good enough, then they had to go back to the drawing board and start over. Movies and shows were heavily judged on the writing and cool factor, but mostly the writing. If they had good enough writing a good enough 'cool' factor, then these movie and show companies would capitalize on that success, and either make more of the same with a different premise or theme, or an entirely different story all together. If they were bad, then they just stopped making it, or hand it off to someone who can do it again but better. This is truly the dark age of mainstream media to the highest degree we are living in right now, and its only a matter of time before we hit a total collapse, and there would be no more cool things to watch or play anymore.

I disagree that people jumping the gun in relation to calling things "woke" is a bad thing. What this is is a reactive response learned throughout the last 20 years. Actually I think people need to gatekeep even harder, because we've seen what happens if the fans don't, beloved franchises get coopted and burned to the ground. These ideologues have trained the public to respond to ANY signs of wokeness with extreme backlash, because if they don't nothing will change. Most people would be quite happy not to have to treat every single new entry of a once beloved franchise with extreme suspicion. It's quite annoying and time consuming and ruins the fun. But the extreme left has left them no other choice if they want their favorite hobbies to prosper.

My only problem with games like for example Mirrors Edge being praised for positive representation is that the word "representation" folds the game into a mold which it shouldn't be in. Not saying that the statement in itself is incorrect, but I do not like dragging good products into the culture war. 10-15 years ago race was nothing I even thought of while playing games. It was so irrelevant to me, the concept of racism was completely foreign to me. Nowadays when I see a game like Mirrors Edge my mind automatically thinks about representation and that kinda ruins the escapism a bit to me. These people who try to make everything about representation are so obnoxious they even ruin good products. Well, *ruin* is a bit of a strong word. Mirrors Edge is still a great game despite everything I said. So...at this point this is just nitpicking and I'm just writing this comment to support the algorithm a bit. Also congrats to the game Smushi Come Home for representing all of the people who identify as mushrooms.👍 (That's a joke and a game recommendation all at once!)

Diversity is at its peak in fighting games. Take Tekken for example. It has characters from a ton of countries so different nationalities and races, they all use their culture's martial arts so they represent different fighting styles, it not only has men and women but even animals and robots, most characters are attractive regardless of their race or gender, everyone speaks their native language (and somehow understand each other lol), etc

@@Walamonga1313 Exactly , now i dont play fighting games but i do play games like skyrim , cyberpunk , witcher 3 etc and they are very diverse and it feels natural considering the context . Tamriel is a gigantic continent filled with many different races , Night city is litterally built on the remains of LA and we all know how diverse that city is and in the witcher 3 we see many different peoples and races . The important thing is that diversity ISNT the main focus of these games , its the story and the gameplay and thats what we want . Dont force your ideology on your games and change what the whole game is all about , unfortunately the dunces at bioware did just that with dragon age......

Also say what you want about Andypants, or guys like Az from HeelsVBabyface, but we NEED people like them that are willing to say the things you "can't say". I'm so sick of the policing of one side, but EVERYTHING the other side does is not only allowed, but focused on and broadcasted, and injected into everything as the "right way". A few years ago you couldn't say ANYTHING without getting shut down, steamrolled by that side. It's because of people like them, and people waking up to the situation, and giving views to those channels (and since it's all about money for these companies, they don't actually believe in 90% of it) and I think even if I don't agree with everything they say, they are the device to open the eyes of people, and someday allow us to get back to some sort of normalcy. If everyone just stayed quiet, and was like the Act Ma'am and pretended it wasn't happening, and gaslit people the other direction, I think we'd be at an even WORSE position than we were in 2020/2021. And I am so thankful for them, and anyone who had the courage to say the things we aren't supposed to say, and risked getting cancelled, to say it.
@Walamonga13132 ай бұрын
While I agree with speaking up, people like Andypants don't present good arguments most of the time and so end up sounding like hyper emotional rants. @@Walamonga1313 yeah he could definitely be better at arguing, but the more people who are willing to be loud and say what can't be said, the more eyes will open, and the more wallets will close.
@TheDezembro2 ай бұрын
The problem is his arguments can be so terrible that anyone can take them apart, even disingenuous bad-faith channels that hide the truth (like Act Man. Just using as a loose example, I think Act Man is far smarter than that, actually, and uses his words carefully but some other channel with like 200 subscribers just roasted him (AndyPants) a couple of days ago with bad arguments .___. ) And when a victory counts as a victory, and AndyPants is making it easy for them to get those victories, then in the end, we're hardly progressing at all. At least that's how I see it because to me it's very different to have a person who is a symbol of reason - even if they use rude language, even if they rant, or even if they are very no-bullshit, headstrong, and 'forward' (like Az for example, and even Asmongold on some topics even though what just happened to him last week...) And a person who is just a symbol of anger and outrage that at times even sounds ridiculous and pathetic, like I'm sorry if you're a fan of Andy I don't want to offend people who watch him because I know a lot of people can watch someone without fully agreeing with them - that's literally a mature thing to do - so don't take me wrong here. But some of his arguments are so f*cking bad, it's like he's grasping at straws to just say the most extreme thing he can. Like dunking on Anime or different genres of game made for relaxation. It ends up painting him & what he 'represents' as just baseless dumb anger. At least the others still have REASON. And if someone like Act Man or anyone else tries to do a video on them, or debate them, they're not gonna make it easy because they got information and arguments - especially Az in this case specifically. Like, he's been seeing the world of comics and TV burn down with this shit for years 😂😂 if the Culture War is a War, he's a vet with PTSD already. Same goes for other people as well, like for example Aristocratic Utensil. You don't see Act Man making videos on him or inviting him to a debate because he's not interested in reasonable people who know they're shit. He targets AndyPants because he's easy.
@TheDezembro2 ай бұрын
Yes, and the fact that he had evidence of AndyPants' older channels praising games that he now calls woke and gay. This is why he went for it with him. 🤷♂️ He knew if the conversation took a turn, he had compromising information to make him look like a fake.

Being chastised and made fun of for not being able to have such relationships only makes them pull back from interactions, more! It makes them more extreme, and in the worst cases, become sexist! My issue with the veilguard is strickly in the writing and how the new writers have just ignored all the world building and lore for the sake of fake inclusion. The writing has no grit. No nauced conflict. Every dialog I've seen makes me physically cringe. I've been a fan of this series for over a decade. Played every game. Listen and read hours upon hours of codex entries. Replayed games multiple times to see different interactions and outcomes. It was a comfort game for me. Watching people play veilguard is legitimately upsetting me. It's not dragon age. I couldn't have cared less about trans characters, surgery scares, and everything else had they just... made a good game. I'd have even forgiven that their graphics got worse since inquistion. But the game, now that it's out, looks like bad fanfiction of dragonage by a fan who doesn't like when peoples feelings get hurt. Im heartbroken that a game I've waited for for years was so badly handled. I can't even bring myself to buy it. There's no soul in this game. But just to back up one of your points. Youre right about the character creation. I cannot make a character that represents my body type. Their 100% on chest is at max a B cup. Absolutely ridiculous. We live in a time where loads of women seek out reduction surgery, but i can't have a character out of a training bra. Miss me with that body inclusion talk.

I've recently started playing Drova: Forsaken Kin by Just2D and published by Deck13, the company that I think pioneered the Soulslike genre by making The Surge, the first of what ended up being many Souls-clones over the years since. It's a grim dark fantasy world and a tough but fair action RPG that plays like a mix of Baldur's Gate 3 or Rogue Trader and a Souls game. I really like how many different choices I seem to have to approach situations. It feels like a perfect mix of the tough combat of a Souls game and the punishing exploration that lets you stumble into areas you are wildly unprepared for-with the freedom of so many open world or CRPGs. I love the Dragon Age world, but I think all the games since Origins have just been trying and failing to live up to it. At this point, there are so many other games that can fill that space for me. I don't plan to play Veilguard and don't want to see any more Dragon Age games unless some other studio takes over the franchise from Bioware. Over the last decade or so, I've watched the indie and AA gaming space evolve and make better and better games while the AAA gaming space has largely been getting worse and making less and less impressive games. I obviously haven't played Veilguard and have no intention to, but I am willing to bet Drova: Forsake Kin, a game that came out of nowhere and is published by the company that made the Surge games, is a better and more fun game than whatever Bioware is capable of making and will put out with Veilguard. The indies and smaller companies have completely surpassed most AAA game studios at this point for me. They are superior in terms of quality and overall amount of content produced. The indie publisher Hooded Horse has put out more good games than EA, Ubisoft, and Bethesda have combined over this past decade. Similarly with Coffee Stain. They make better games than companies like Bioware can.

There are aspects of her design that I'd change to better fit the kind of shit she has to do fighting these big machines and etc, but narrative-wise, she was established well. - Trained and saved by a male role model, who she honors and remembers fondly. - Feisty but not rude or arrogant, especially not to those undeserving of it. - Learns and develops through mistakes, does not grandstand and hates being praised - Wishes to work alone not out of arrogance but out of concern for putting people in danger - Doesn't hold meme-grudges against men out of stupid plot points as seen in certain MCU movies lol, in the end she even finds common ground & peace with Sylens - Remains consistent in her beliefs and attitude of not putting up with nonsense even when it's towards the weird vegan tribe - Saved by a man twice more in HFW. - While Erend was held back a lot more than I wish in HFW, Sylens did have a lot of agency and importance to the plot. - and most importantly... Doesn't act like a bitter b*tch the entire time 😂

Have you ever thought making every hero a white straight male, and women having to have a certain body type that incels like is pandering to them? It goes both ways just because you like something doesn’t mean I can relate to it
@TheDezembro2 ай бұрын
No, because that's not pandering and it's not about representation or relatability. Pandering is what happens when you OBSESS over race, gender and sexuality. That is an inward problem that people project into reality. It is narcissism and egocentrism. It is looking at Lord of the Rings for example and going "I cannot see myself in this therefor it is bad, it is only pandering to 'straight-white-males' therefor it is sexist and racist". This is complete lunacy. A normal person looks at LOTR and either enjoys or they don't but they don't project their egomaniacal narcissism onto it and the meaning of its production. Not every playable character has been white or male, and there's plenty of games and other SUCCESSFUL franchises that show it. When you write a genuine character for the value of the art it is completely different from writing a character for diversity and inclusion to pander to narcissistic values. And sexuality isn't even relevant here lol so many characters are called "STRAIGHT" without even being PRESENTED as straight because of the games not having romance options or romance scenes at all. Race Gender & Sexuality obsessed people are the ones projecting their obsessions onto the fictional plane. Normal people aren't playing these games thinking "OH YES ANOTHER STRAIGHT WHITE MALE JUST LIKE MEEEEE" they are just playing a game and judging it based on its quality. The same thing actually happens with RACE too. There's so many characters that we simply have no idea if they're white. They may "pass" as white, but we don't actually know many character's actual race / ethnicities, and they don't flaunt it or make it a part of their personality. ^ Because THIS is actually incredibly tacky and dislikable writing. It isn't a worthwhile trait in most stories and completely irrelevant especially in fantasy or sci-fi settings where this stuff doesn't even exist the same way as it does in OUR world. Again, this stuff comes down to PROJECTION. People create these problems *for themselves* because they *want to*. It is an inward problem that brings them to be unable to just switch their brains off from the real world and engage in the escapism of a fictional piece of media. I am not a "STRAIGHT WHITE MALE" and I never had a problem watching the movies, shows and playing the games that I played growing up & that I still play now because I am not a race, gender and sexuality obsessed narcissist who demands to be represented in fictional content. I only want the content to be good. And a lot of good content already exists out there with ACCURATE and PROPORTIONATE 'inclusion' of non-white, non-straight, and non-male characters. The problem is that inclusion is not what obsessed bitter narcissistic people want - this already exists - what they want is exclusion of those they harbor actual hatred, prejudice and even racism for. They want to fight past historical discrimination with more current & future discrimination. And they want to keep pushing their delusional ideologies attached to the same """PROGRESSIVE""" wagon, such as child-transitions, self-ID politics, and gender-ideology so BOUNDLESSLY INSANE (literally claims that infinite genders exist) that not even Science-Fiction writers could've come up with it. Fuck, not even Michael Kirkbride whacked out of his mind alcohol for a week while writing Elder Scrolls Morrowind lore could've come up with this sort of stuff.

Characters being good (Cyberpunk) doesn’t matter that doesn’t change anything it is still pushing the agenda regardless and we don’t want it in our games at all.

Characters being well written does make a huge difference. Rainbow people used to be talented, egzample - Eddie Izzard as a stand-up comedian back in the day when he called himself "an executive transvestite" and was funny af. Now he just wants to be called a woman, oh well.

You don't want them. I'm not a conservative, I just hate pandering.

Yeah, Clair's trans flag on the truck threw me off. The ENTIRE point of transitions are to become the gender you want. Why slap a flag on something to point out your transition? I would have been surprised by the reveal if it wasn't for the damn flag. As it was I just went "Yep, saw that coming." But at least they wrote Clair well.
@mikewade777Ай бұрын
People with trans flags most likely aren't Trans, but following a trend, and most likely an activist. Real trans people don't want or need a flag, don't celebrate their dysphoria or won't representation as trans.

I don't think homossexual inclusion should be put in the same cathegory as inclusion of women and black characters. People actually have a problem with homossexuality, most of us are simply not entertained by it (to say the least) so we don't want to see it at all. The same can't be said about female characters and black characters. We do like those.

The western game industry went down the toliet the moment women got into development. Men do not sign off on this nonsense. Look how many games have flopped that were designed by women. They are making games for women when women are not the majority of consumer base of this particular hobby.

bruh they did diversity way better in dao without even trying , zevran was bisexual , it made sense for his story because he was raised his whole life in a brother and was trained as an assasin to use his skills to seduce anyone he needed to kill , and that wasnt his whole character,just a facet of it , he wasnt inserted in the game just for them to make their diversity quota

They cannot come up with their own good stories so they have to take others IP. Someone please give one example of a DEI focused game that was good and was successful?

This may be my first vid of yours. So I'm not entirely familiar. Idc what people do behind closed doors (short of hurting someone). I just want games. Idc who makes them. Idc who voices them. Idc who plays them. I want good games I'm able to enjoy without all the bs from either side. I would say just do you and don't sweat all the bs. It's all you can do and stay sane

That first comment is a clear version of confirmation bias lol they clearly haven't watched your stuff or listened to your points they just thought it was video attacking their ideology and went on the counter
