I don't think the multi-thousand year lifespan of the Namek from the demon realm is natural, since the little demon guy promised to extend his lifespan by another 1000 years if he found the dragon balls for him. So he probably has been getting his lifespan extended by granting favors to the kings of the demon realm for quite some time, which I'm guessing they're willing to do because they know if he dies their dragon balls will go inert. I also find it hilarious that Shenron asked for specifics when making the Dragon team younger, that's more than he did for the Pilaf gang, who he basically turned into a bunch of babies who had to grow back up because Pilaf didn't specify how young he wanted to be

I think my favorite piece of this first episode is the fact that it takes place after Kid Buu is defeated, but _BEFORE_ Super takes place. A close second is the fact that Dabura's father is called 'Abura', which me laugh. Think about it. Abura, (Ka)Dabura. Fits perfectly with Buu's naming shtick with his manipulators. Bibidi, Babidi, Buu. That said.. I'm looking forward to seeing Pansy in action. You can never have too much adorableness, I say.

Namekians coming from the demon realm could explain why King Piccolo was able to lay eggs and create demons that were not namekian. Kamisama separated their good half from their evil half so possibly the current Namekians of universe 7 at some point in time became peaceful and established their planet or Kamisama/K. Piccolo was outcasted from the planet. They just opened a universe of posaibilities.

It's the little details that really make this episode, and potentially this series. The fact that Namekians are called "namekujin" by demon realm residents rather than "namekuseijin" and the close attention on good vs evil energy, and the visual differences between the demon realm and normal universe dragon balls. What I think everyone is misunderstanding about Zalama is that he created the Super Dragon Balls vs. Dragon Balls in general. I think that Neva is the original creator of the Dragon Balls ever in any realm, and that Zalama is the creator of the Dragon Balls outside the demon realm after the Namekians escaped, and that they will address this point later on in the series (even just through implication).

I’m assuming Dr. Arinsa doesn’t have a Dragon Ball Radar or anything, so I wonder why she’s really doing on Earth since Gomah’s group is already making wishes. Here’s a thought: since Shenron asked Gonah to clarify the exact terms of his wish, is that all ONE wish (because Shenron can grant 3 wishes) or did Shenron trick Gomah into using multiple wishes (wishing for Goku and co to become first graders AND their kids to become babies)? Could be a funny way to start the next episode, with Gomah arguing Neva about wasting a wish and they fight over what the last wish should be, since I don’t think Gomah can just make Neva live another 1,000 years. Maybe Arinsa went to New Namek instead of Earth, since the Demon Realm people seem to know about Namek (they mention Purunga by name). It’d be a good way to eliminate the Namekian Dragon Balls as an easy fix for the problem, too. So the group HAS to go to the Demon Realm and use THOSE Dragon Balls to undo Gomah’s wish. I’m really excited for the next decent while, peeps

Daima being the Dragon Ball anime that Toriyama worked the closest with can be felt in basically every aspect of this first episode: the character writing is on point, the comedy is great, the villains are silly but still threatening, the color palette and visuals feel ripped right out of the manga, the animation's dynamic and fluid as hell, the lore and exploration of world building feels fresh and engaging, I cannot wait to see where this new adventure takes us! Daima is so good, it made me return to the only DB channel I used to watch regularly, besides TFS with Kaiser, the guy also has good knowledge about the series I might be biased, but the whole episode felt so nice, 30 minutes flew by, I was ready to a bad pace like Super, but this first episode went ahead and shattered my expectations! Feels like Akira Toriyama was really involved, not just a small story sinapse, ditections and some character arts. I hope the love still strong through the whole series. The only "mixed feeling" is that I was unaware of this taking place after kid buu defeat, don't take me wrong Super is big mix of feelings, some great and others totally bad, but in the end I learned to love some of those things, like Piccolo power up, Pan was ready to take the wheel, we were so close to Uub, better Broly, those 2 robots wasn't bad, different power ups (instinct, ego, beast, wrath), but had some bad things like everyone fights blue, Freeza is back, freeza change colors because he trained a little bit... I don't know if Toyota gonna keeping writing Super, if he gonna write Daima or even something new, but I hope we get a new manga

I share your admiration. I adored the episode and look forward to more. I was with my brother, and we were in glee laughing at the recap alone. I thought the demon realm was a mirror of its universe, but it seems to be a completely separate realm from all the different universes altogether. I vaguely remember there was an explanation in Z about how how everything there was a reflection. Was I mistaken about that? I really like the way the Demon World is depicted in Daima. The explanation for the potara earrings was how I originally thought it worked with Vegito splitting. Which had me thinking. They used good Buu. Seems like they don't know about him, right? That episode went by so fast. I want to rewatch it! When it was over, I was itching for more, but no! This is good because it gives everyone time to discuss and more. Love that. These discussions are a tons of fun for me!

So watching this review brought me back to an old theory I had about namekians. It went with the idea that the warrior clan might actually have magic, but it's magic that might be more demonic, and might show itself as part of a namekian's fighting style instead of just obvious magic. Where as the dragon clan has the obvious magic that we've seen in the manga and shows. Now, with namekians being from the demon realm, it feels like both forms of power must be demonic in origin. For the dragon clan, we have demons with a magic based around temptation. Magic that can empower others by unlocking potential, the ability to grant wishes (even if indirectly), and arguably the ability to peer into someone's soul (but that might just have been some of the dragon clan being good judges of character more than magic). All of these things fit the theme of demons that could tempt mortals into foolishness, as seen through the lens of those that have left that behind them quite some time ago. Then you have the warrior clan and, well, supernaturally brutal demons are also a theme of demons that exist, so a demonic form of magic that makes the warrior clan more suited to applying fist to face instead of guidance to minds. The major difference between this and my old theory is that the dragon clan's magic wouldn't be divine in origin, but share said demonic origin, and it feels like it fits. Also we got Radiz back, so this show's doing something right.

So... I did enjoy it... but some of the stuff didn't make sense. They confirmed shin and kubito being separated with the dragon balls in super, not through buu. The demon namekian thing felt like an abridged episode where piccolo was like "nope, slug men". The nemekian age was said to be that old because the demon realm made him live that long. There was many things that made this feel like fan pleasing and not canon. What really annoyed me was actually the nemekian from the demon realm (forgot his name ) just being like " i made these so I can do what I want with them". Also did piccolo just become an egg again? When goku was that young piccolo was still king piccolo before he spit out the egg and stuck in the jar or rice cooker. Been a while since I watched it. It was a good beginning. Just felt off

Masako always with the great review and RIP Akira Toriyama he left us with a masterpiece before going to heaven. Daima looks amazing, the art and animation was on point especially during the flashbacks it looks beautiful. I'm very interested in Neva for his Dragon clan abilities and for those 3 warriors he created.

I don't have a concrete opinion of it yet but the Animation alone was enough for me to be happy, we of course knew the animation would look good from Trailers but watching it for the debut episode just reassured all of my worries. This won't be a repeat over Super Season 1 that's for dang sure.

I really enjoyed this first episode, my only complaint would be the pacing, that felt a bit wonky, but with how dialogue and exposition charged this episode was it was inevitable.

Dragonball was my introduction to anime, and it has changed my life, for me it was a way to escape my problems and harsh reality, I feel like a kid again. Toriyama has changed and possibly even saved my life.

before I even watch this I will let you know my review as someone probably near your age range, I grew up with you know like the ocean dub busting out first with an English dub and looking at blurry little photos on AOL and geocity sites and weird mexican websites, and random video stores having a box of bootleg VHS tapes of Japanese movies that were poorly dubbed, that's how I got my fascination with dragon ball and any kind of cool anime, I already see people trying to pick this apart and I also see a lot of love for it and I just have to say that every last second of this first episode had me absolutely in awe! the lore! the namekian lore! the expressions on their faces! i am absolutely in love with Dr. Arinsu! i predicted Abura! and just the absolute attention to detail, this made my heart and mind happy, i cried as soon as the credits started! THIS is DRAGON BALL!

The animation was superb, we got a lot of lore like the Namekians being ACTUAL demons, Shin having siblings, Buu "bad air" being confirmed (imagine if Super Buu farting would have been enough to unfused Vegito, that would have been something Toriyama could have done !), the old Namekian being OP, did Goku kept SOME of his strength or did he regressed to the powerlevel he had back when he was 6 (with Vegeta being now the top dog if that's the case AS A TRUE SAIYAN ELITE !) I was really hyped by this episode and I hadn't had a fanboyish discussion about Dragon Ball with my best friend for a long time ! PS : Can't wait for the "What if Radditz was in DB Daima !"

Ngl when I saw this first announced I believe like a year ago, maybe 2? I scoffed and wanted super to be continued. Then, toriyama passed in March 😔 and I felt bad for scoffing at it especially when I found out that's basically going to be his final work. And the fact that he did all this cool stuff for the fans? I kinda like that the nameks are derived from the demon realm. It always confused me how demon king piccolo was able to make such weird namekians. The animation is beautiful and I love some of the lore updates. I can already tell tho that in the ending everyone’s going to forget what happened cause goku asks in the series in super (which takes place after Diama) both why he and vegeta unfused and how shin and kibito unfused. I can’t wait to watch more

But Masakox, what happened to your beautiful and amazing what if thumbnails, I miss them. They helped with immersion, but now you'll have to insert the daima into some of your stories. ps: I love your videos, I'm glad you're back but I miss the thumbnails. ❤❤
