Exactly! And all the cool fusions you could have like Gokule and Tiencha. Did you know that there is japanese exclusive Budokai 2 V? It added a new story chapter with Tiencha and they added Frieza's son Kuriza (known from the Neko Majin mangas) as a character. Cooler is also there and Frieza and Cell can be played in their Majin forms.

Budokai 2's story mode is underrated. A new version of that could be fleshed out. If you could around the dragon world, maybe even fly, meet up with people and go through all types of locations itd be really interesting. Certain events could also play out differently. Imagine replaying the sagas but different directions you go in can effect the way the story plays out. Racing to stop cell from powering up, buu absorbing potentially a wider variety of people, if your characters get beaten you have to wish them back, etc. Could have movie villains, make your own character and go down certain paths. Its a shame the boardgame mode never got used again.

But it's true that the amount of years between these game's release dates makes it even more irrelevant to make a comparison argument. If Budokai 3 was released within the last 5 years I'd say it would make sense to compare them, but I think it's just milking the fans insecurities to make a video on this topic for a game that FighterZ wasn't even trying to build upon.

TheHypershon 40 I like both games for different reasons because they're different. You can have your preferences and say "This is better than this" on a subjective level, but when you have the audacity to release a full video with the videos topic being "What's better?" you're trying to make an objective comparison based on game mechanics. I believe that should only be done with sequels/spinoffs that obviously build upon the previous one's mechanics (Fallout New Vegas vs Fallout 3), not two games with the same franchise name and share the "fighting" aspect. The issue arises from what defines the game as being better than the other. Do you want a true fighting game? Or do you want a sandbox-y Dragon Ball flavoured brawler. Some people may prefer the 1-on-1, simple combat but super flashy and hype action that make you feel like you're in DBZ with transformations and ultimate QTE's. Some may like a skill based competitive fighter where it's 3-on-3 and there's really nice vidual fidelity.

Dragon Ball Fighter Z is actually closest to a DBZ game called Hyper Dimension. Right down to elaborate combos, the stripped back Roster, and inability to choose forms (such as Goku is always SSJ, Adult Gohan is always Mystic Gohan.)

Its seems a lot of the negative opinions on FighterZ is coming from people who are stuck on the Tenkaichi 3 roster deal and or do not play fighting games. I don't own a single fighting game and they honestly do not peak my interest. That aside, I'm judging this as a DBZ game and it is a pretty good one. Expecting FighterZ to have as many characters as Xenoverse or Tenkaichi is unrealistic. Making a new character for these games is easy, because many share moves, combos, techniques which you can learn.... I mean, it's easy to the point YOU CAN CREATE YOUR OWN CHARACTER! And it barely accounts for balance. Fighterz is meant to be an actual, competitive fighting game with balanced systems, where each character is unique. Each one takes infinitely more work than just making a new model in Tenkaichi-clones and picking from a pool of techniques.

That doesn't necessarily mean it's not balanced. I am not a fighting game expert, and I don't even have the game yet, but that might actually BE a balancing tweak. Street Fighter has always been recognized as one of the most balanced fighting game series since its beginnings ('beginnings' here meaning SF2, not the atrocious first game!), and Akuma is less resilient and tough than other characters, because he's more powerful. But in a 'scale' such a fix would be meant to keep every character on a similar weight class, whereas in the Budokai games, some characters clearly outclassed others in every way.

If you want a one on one Dragonball/Zfighting experience, go Budokai. But if you want that crazy as hell blasting and tag outs which makes the 1 on 1 less focused, while being closer to a fighting game that has Dragonball in its name , go Fighterz. Fighterz has great gameplay but after playing online, I forgot it was similar to MvC 3 and I hate that game. Too much happening on screen and just a matter of whose assists are better, who becomes open , and how you follow up. I WISH there was a 1 on 1 system in Fighterz. Matter fact, it should've been like Guilty Gear Xrd. It was close to be perfect even with the limited roster.

i see some people complaining about db fighter z because of the system, competitive scene(git gud) and dlc, but you do realize that it take time and effort to make each character individual and unique vs cloning every character in the game like some of the old dbz games did. The main reason that those games got a full roaster is because they knew fans weren't observing any of the moves visually beside intro's, supers, and some winning quotes. Each character in db fighter z moves, walk animation, standing and jump animation, and ect... were literally made with care vs slapping on animation to make it look bland. Anyway moving on db fighter z is actually a well balanced game without an absurd power level didference to ruin the game.

I loved the original budokai series and it's still one of my favorite series of games for the franchise and for their time they were fun games with great mechanics (though not all of them budokai 3 had the best stuff but even then all the mechanics weren't necessary) overall it fulfilled that fantasy of wanting to be in the dragon ball world and it was fun. Though I loved the series FighterZ is just so much more advanced as an actual fighting game first then a dragon ball game second with so many more avenues of competitive play compared to literally every dragon ball game ever made.

Hello channel Federator. I am a 90's kid who loves DBZ , i own many titles like DBZ budikai and my brother owns the Raging blast 2. I have always as a kid enjoyed DBZ and think it is awesome. Thanks for making this video , it really brings me back. Paused at 4:34 to make a solid point, before I continue to watch this: • I absolutely understand why DBFZ launched with as many characters as they have, which include the 8 DLC characters. They want each character to feel unique, and strategic while using them. I’ve long since noticed that in the Budokai series, they reused a lot of the same movesets & combos for different characters, which made them feel the same in many ways. DBFZ doesn’t do that, which (as a programmer myself) I can definitely appreciate.

I’ll say that from what I gathered while experimenting with the characters during the beta I saw a lot of the characters having similar move inputs to other characters (Goku to Gohan are the only ones i remember well enough at the moment) but their combos played character specific, as did their special moves. In that regard, I hardly see any difference to what Budokai 1-3 did. However, the Budokai Tenkaichi games (especially towards the end) started heavily relying on reskinning characters and recycling moves to pad the roster, not all the characters were like that but there was still a pretty decent amount of them.

XSPHEN0M definitely! The moves & overall design became a cookie cutter mess. Many characters fighting styles in general weren’t at all in reference to how they were in the show, except for specials. And even after awhile, those felt recycled. I really do appreciate how much fun Tenkaichi, & bodokai gave me as a child. They’re awesome button mass games. But now, I think it’s time for something more competitive..!

Still loving the Budokai series. What's great about that is that the game doesn't need multiple slots for the same character (like other DB games). You only got one Goku/Vegeta/etc and they have the entire costumes in the series as an alternate. Then you can customized the skills and transformations for the characters. Goku from Kaio-ken to SSJ4 and you can see each transformations. Seeing Vegeta with his original original Saiyan armor and tail but can transformed into SSJ. That was really dope.

The difference with FighterZ is that Super Saiyan Goku covers Goku's moves from throughout all of Z whereas Super Saiyan Blue Goku covers what we have seen from him in Super. The same goes for Vegeta. The Blue's play completely differently from their normal Super Saiyan counterparts. Transforming in the Budokai games doesn't really do anything other than make you hit harder and if you played Super Saiyan 4 Goku or Vegeta then you could just do stupid damage that isn't even remotely fair. Kamehameha x10 taking out an entire bar of health plus some is just...not okay.

I'm disappointed DBFZ has no alternate costumes. Pallet swaps are fine, but not when there are actual variations you could use. Goku with turtle hermit GI, or King Kai GI, Gohan with 4star ball clothes, or long hair time chamber GI, Yamcha with long hair and short hair. Vegeta scouter, Vegeta on namek, Vegeta with capsule Corp GI, etc. Every other Dragonball game has alternate costumes, some attribute different techniques to them appropriately. A roster of 25 characters may make a solid balanced fighting game, but Im sure there were plenty of us who wanted an expansive roster of characters from Dragonball/Z/Super/GT, and the movies. It's a shame we didn't even get transformations. No base form Goku? No SSJ 2,3,4? SSJG? Base Frieza or the transformations before golden? Seems kinda disingenuous to those who are bigger fans of Dragonball than of fighting games. There's a reason Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is the most sought-after Dragonball game, why it gets more and more expensive every year. We don't, or at least I don't, care if there's alot of copied characters, that isn't the point. I want to be able to fight any character in the series with any character in the series.

DBFZ most likely won't be getting any GT characters at all. The series has been declared non-canon and it's almost universally despised. With that said it makes me sad cuz I loved ssj4. And we are getting movie characters and others. Bardock and Broly will be the first of the DLC.

Budokai combo system is actually very deep and it seems most people don't know that you can cancel many parts and endings of combos to do infinites which I personally find quite difficult. Is it as difficult as a blazblue game? Maybe not, but I definitely prefer the direction budokai went in when it comes to mastering the game and mastering your execution. The mind games and possible reset set ups are pretty much infinite. To this day I still think budokai 3/infinite world is the best and most fun dragon ball fighting game and will always play it over any other.

I just want to know if this game plays like the budokai's fighting mode before it was ruined with the start of the tenkaichi series. If I plug in a 40 hit combo in 2 seconds will that combo play out? That was my favorite draw to the series and friends and I would battle literally days at a time with endless improving skill. I like the roaming board too where u got pods of characters or whatever, some better than others. I guess no one else liked that but back to the single question. Does the best battling system act 3d in movements up, down, front, back, and side shifting along with stored memory of the buttons you pushed? If a button masher played you they would be ruined because 50 punches would play out against a skilled player would put a 50 move combo and could let go of the controller to watch that combo play out. Does that work with this game? It is, to this day, the most fun battling ever. I want it back and need to know if this is worth the gamefly wait.

How am I not seeing it logically? Budokai 3's fighting system was simplistic at best, and the Dragon Rush system made horrendous at worse. Many of the characters felt like copies of each other. And the story ditched cutscenes in favor of this rpg styled textbox scenes. And don't even get me started on tournament mode ring out.

Only pointing this out, because of the dragon ball fighter history at the start. Dragon Ball Z: Super Butōden (Super Famicon 1993), was a huge thing in Asia. I think it still holds the record for the highest selling Dragon ball game in Japan (1.4 million copies) and the reason I bought a Super Famicon when I was a kid (probably a killer app by today's terminology). There are about 10 sequels since with the last one in 2015 on the 3DS notably with Arc System Works. I think it should be included in the video talking about the legacy of Dragon Ball fighting games, as it is the benchmark.

Apparently the PC version of the game's been Datamined, and judging from a few character codes, the speculated DLC Roster is, in order: Broly* Bardock* Janemba Kefla Jiren Toppo Kid Goku Fuu** *We all saw this coming **He's the new character in Xenoverse 2's latest DLC, and unless his backstory's changed from DB Online, he's Towa and Mira's son.

Or maybe you just got on the hype train for FighterZ and refuse to get off? Let's not just downplay someone else's opinion with BS excuses just because its different than yours. Personally, I don't like the graphics for FighterZ. It's very jarring for the 3D characters to look as 2D as they do in FighterZ combat, switching back and forth as often as they do. Also, don't limit the comparison to just Budokai 1, this video was clearly about looking at Budokai 2 and 3 as well and Budokai 3 has plenty of things going for it. For fairness tho, I will keep in mind that future FighterZ installments could fix many of its issues, as Budokai 3 did to its previous installments.

Its funny though Dimps was actually responsible for the 2D DBZ fighting games, the budokai series. When i saw Xenoverse for the 1st time i immidiately saw the similarities with the Budokai series rather the Tenkaichi besides it being a 3D fighter. Spike animates the character stiffee though i do think their games are the better DBZ simulators. Dimps did a terrific job with XV2 but these small stupid dessicions like no difficulty setting in VS CPU mode or start as Super Saiyan begin of battle. Friezas 2nd and 3rd form. I also hated the Stamina at first but ive kinda gotten the hang of it now and im starting to like it. Im not sure about transforming being a skill but it doesnt bother me. FighterZ seems like very great game but unfortunately if it comes out on Switch i still have to skipp it. I like DBZ but like i said im more into simulators like BT3 and XV2 and FighterZ seems more like a fighting game with DBZ characters, this game would be just a good with Naruto or Bleach characters sort a speak without changing anything about the core gameplay mechanics.

During my time playing the auto-combo system was only a problem when it got in the way of normal combos. It made combos that in any other Dragon Ball game would have been child's play now have become very tedious and feel like you were fighting against the games controls instead of the opponent in front of you. You may not notice these problems or maybe they don't bother you and that's fine. BUT, they bother me and even my close friends who grew up with games like Budokai and Budokai Tenkaichi. This is my opinion that the auto-combo even existing in the game is a insult to any Dragon Ball fan and the fact that it interfered with other button combos made the whole experience not any fun to me. It's a shame since the story in the game is absolutely amazing. I had high hopes and I planned on even preordering the game. But once I actually got to play it crushed me on how bad the game is compared to previous games including Extreme Butoden This game has a conflicting gameplay style, it doesn't know whether to go toward people who love fighters or dumb casuals who don't know what their doing. This unbalance can be experienced in the gameplay and how you have to hold back to supposedly cancel the auto-combo when really it shouldn't be there in the first place

woah, hold on there, buddy. I loved the whole board game thing in Budokai 2. It was an excellent idea! I mean, sure, we all wanted an open world DBZ game, but that was pretty cool. I especially loved how in order to unlock certain things, such as super saiyan, you actually had to recreate events from the show. It is a bit odd letting yourself die as Krillen, but it was still a pretty cool idea. Annyway, You had reason to actually fight as krillen, since you could subtract from the total health, making the fight easier with other characters.
