I did some research, and I think that "never-before-seen fighter" hinted at in Z Survivor Mode was supposed to be something called Full Armor Mecha Frieza. A version of Mecha Frieza with a cannon and grenade launcher mounted on his back, and landmines that are deployed from his tail. It was a form made exclusively for this game.

@@kingbrezzy1253 i've never had it happen to me, but i believe it was a powered up version of majin buu or one of the androids. the reason goku says there's a new unseen fighter is because of a translation context mishap. the game on arcade didn't have buu and some of the characters added for the ps2 release (same for survival mode itself), the comment references that, i think.

This was my first and up until I was old enough to get a job,only dragon ball game. I remember being 9/10 and my only way to watch Z was find spliced KZbin videos where the final fight against Kid Buu was grainy,and in over 6 parts. Or I remember the website for the show I had managed to find a few episodes of GT they let you watch for free,I can recall staring at the ads for the dragon box and hoping someday I’d find the courage to ask my parents to buy it with its huge price tag. So when I went to blockbuster and found this game,I went crazy! I Can still remember Mecha’s Frieza stupid intro of “Im the strooongest!” and spending all my time trying to max out both him and Vegeta. Getting Vegeta’s saiyan saga outfit in a week was still my greatest achievement on a PS2. The games repetitive,but man does it capture a feeling very few games have given me throughout my life.

The thing I remember most about this game is in the magazines it was revealed that mecha frieza was uniquely redesigned in this game by Akira Toriyama themselves which is a big deal since dragonball hadn't had anything new since GT (Super hadn't been realized yet) and it turns out that this was just a translation error

One thing that hurt it was the respec (resetting skills). It takes so long to just grind and change up your skill tree. It would have been easier to just let you customize your moveset from the get-go and save the RPG mechanics for another mode. Or even just make you unlock them once and customize them from there. Best parts about this game were the music, visuals, unique character designs, and interactable stages. It's fun, it's good, but it could definitely be better. I also like the unique 3D fighting gameplay.

10:25 - On that note, it's weird how there has never been an OG Dragon Ball fighting game, given it had 2 martial arts tournament as part of it's story. Perhaps a dedicated focus on OG Dragon Ball would have given this game great memorability. In any case, I do recall seeing this games on store shelves when I was a kid but never purchasing it. A shame, as the character selection is unique, the customisation/upgrading factor cool and the 3d stages awesome; you did a great job showcasing these factors through this video.

@@user-ny5vp9be8v True, Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo did have a fighting game mode to it, but that isn't quite the same as a full on fighting game. @grinbrothers
@grinbrothers 2 жыл бұрын
@@asgth6147 Oh yes, forgot the 23rd Tournament due to Goku being an adult in that one. It feels like an odd transition period between OG Dragon Ball and Z in a way (and in terms of a game sense, they would have to create a new model for Goku to have both Kid and Adult; which is probably why a Advance Adventure and Revenge of King Piccolo stop at the King Piccolo arc).

i was like 8 when i got birthday money and decided i wanted a DBZ game. went to the store and saw this and BT2. was not familiar with either game so i got this was just because i thought the cover was cooler. when i eventually learned about BT2 and what the BT series was like, for several years i wished i had gotten BT2 that day but my thoughts on that have since changed. I'm so glad i picked this one and got to experience so many hours of it. Sure it lacks the roster and characters of other DBZ games but it plays most like traditional fighting games like no other dbz game does which i think is part of the reason this game was slept on. a DBZ game with 100+ characters where 90% fight almost identically is more appealing to a casual fan than an 18 character roster where they all fight uniquely (especially with the skill tree system). It makes sense though. being able to switch between 100+ characters and being able to do the same attacks with the same button presses and not having to go into training mode and spend time learning each one is very appealing. Not to say that the BT series doesn't have depth to its fighting, it does, just that majority of people overlook it and instead opt to mash square and throw out energy beams which of course there's nothing wrong with. The budokai/tenkaichi series was something any DBZ fan could enjoy where as super DBZ i think mainly appealed to fighting game fans. Personally I prefer super DBZ since im a fighting game fan but my friends who like DBZ but arent into fighting games prefer the tenkaichi games probably because of reasons stated above. Also just as a random side note, one thing i dont like in super DBZ is that if you set the difficulty to hard, it doesnt change A.I behavior much, if it all, it just makes them deal twice as much damage lmao.

"So why is it no one remembers this game" Because 370,000 even by the ps2 era is still a very small number. All the budokai and tenkaichi games individually sold in the millions. Infinite World sold even less copies than Super DBZ. However, the only reason people remember it is because it's basically Budokai 3 with Shin Budokai gameplay. That and emulators have helped bring it to the spotlight. I didn't even know about it until 2015.

It's understandable. Most people were used to playing DBZ simulators and that's what they wanted. But, if you were looking for a serious DBZ fighting game then this was the real deal.

I love all the old games, never played this one. Hell, I grew up with them. But now I'm happy with XenoVerse 1 & 2. Just bought the bundle 3 days ago and they are awesome.

That Chichi outfit is similar to the last tournament but in actuality it's Chichi from the final arc of Dragon Ball to get the Bansho Fan which she has on her back to quell the fires of Ox King's mountain so she can get her wedding dress from the castle. Cheers.

There's apparently a competitive scene around this game. It ain't much, but it's there and the players are incredible.

Despite all the DBZ games that have come out over the years, BT2 and BT3 in my opinion still remains the most Unique and the best DBZ games in terms of content, quality and fanservices. And from the gameplay perspective aspects, these DBZ games that I mentioned are very close to the anime itself because of the Vibe and Charm, I don't know how to describe it but it was, and still is the most Unique DBZ experience you could have with the combat factor. (- Sheer amount de of characters - Transformations mid-battle (powering up and down) - Fusions mid-battle - Fast gameplay that has that "woah" feel - Tons of extra content - Story mode covering all sagas + movies - What If sagas - Shenron having permanent impact on game (character unlocks and whatnot) - Great tournaments that rotate availability - Edit characters with items (buffs) - 5v5 battles - Really Great and Epic Soundtracks - Destroyable environments - Entire stages could be blown up into their "destroyed" alternatives - Mission 100 being a great challenge - Artwork is 10/10 - Sound effects are great - Combat feels heavy and satisfying) Only Budokai 3, Infinite World and the Raging Blast 1 and 2 and all of PSP DBZ games are still considered also very solid DBZ games, also the hidden gem that a lot of DBZ fans missed from PS2 Era of DBZ games is "Super Dragon Ball Z" which is also a real Unique and DBZ game, especially for the different gameplay aspects perspective. ☯️✌

I loved that you can turn your regular Kamehameha into a Bending Kamehameha just by turning the analog stick. I think it worked on some other attacks too but I can't remember.
