Sean Schemmel -- the quintessential voice of the adult version of 'Goku' in the Funimation dub of the "Dragon Ball" anime franchise -- reflects on his career, shares behind-the-scenes stories and answers fan questions at his standing-room only Q&A panel at the 2018 Fan Expo Canada in Toronto.
Sean Christian Schemmel (born November 21st, 1968) is an American voice actor, ADR director and screenwriter who has worked for Funimation, OkraTron 5000, NYAV Post, 4K Media Inc., Central Park Media and DuArt Film and Video. He has provided voices for a number of English adaptations of Japanese anime, as well as various animated series and video games. He has notably portrayed 'Goku' in the "Dragon Ball" franchise longer than any other English voice actor has over the years, and also voices 'King Kai,' 'Nail,' and 'Goku Black.'
"Dragon Ball," "Dragon Ball Z," "Dragon Ball Super," and "Dragon Ball Z Kai" are all adaptations of the original manga, with various new material added in to make extra episodes so that Toriyama would have more time to write original chapters for them to adapt. "Dragon Ball GT" and "Dragon Ball Heroes" are not originated from any direct source material from Toriyama, being fully created be their respective animation studios. "Dragon Ball Super" was released parallel to (and many times ahead of) the manga of the same name, due to the fact that they were both based on the same outline by Toriyama for the story of Super.
