If you're wondering why split-screen can only be done in the Time Chamber, the reason is related to the main issue with split-screen modes in many graphically intensive games: Performance problems. When a game is played via its split-screen mode, it is effectively rendered at least twice. That's once for each player viewport on the screen. Those viewports are all shown on the screen at the same time throughout a session. If the game uses intense graphics and/or the device it runs on can't handle the multiple simultaneous renders, the performance drops considerably. In some cases, optimization tricks can only do so much to help with that. This problem dates all the way back to the likes of Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo 64. Neither the game nor the console could handle the simultaneous rendering of four player viewports, as anyone who played the game can tell you. Yes, Sparking Zero goes up to two players, so that softens the performance blow a good deal. But, given what the game sets out to do with its graphics, particularly with its effects and destructible environment, I think we can all guess as to how hard the frames would tank if split-screen was allowed in a regular level. The Time Chamber is literally the least performance intensive level the game has.

Maybe if they were able to make the water deform and split with auras and attacks, it'd be worth it, but a flat blue sea is like the hyperbolic time chamber again

The power required to render 2 separate destructions of that quality is more than it can handle which is why split screen is locked to the non-destructive HTC. Yes, it is ultimately boring, but it fits the requirements of split screen while offering a bit of variety and a neat reference.

Even racing games these days don't have split screen because it's so impossible for games with modern detail to render two versions of everything, so I always knew this game wasn't gonna have it with its insane effects and destruction. But the fact they worked to make it happen as much as they could just for the people who want it is extremely cool. And like you said, maybe in the future when systems get more powerful they'll be able to do it on other stages.

As for the early unlock thing, for those that don’t know, Early Access characters have always simply been a purchase bonus that lets you play as a late game character without you actually having to complete the in game requirements. It’s not a paywall it’s a simple bonus bonus for those who want the shortcut

yeah with the preorder characters and DBFZ, goku and vegeta blue were unlocked by completing the hard modes of the gauntlet mode. so yeah i think these characters will be available through in-game unlocks by completing some mission or special requirement in a specific mission or something.

Love the idea for custom battles! It's kinda what I expected but even more so. Part of me wishes they went all out with it and allow you to essentially group battles together and have branching paths to make your own story mode of sorts. That would gave been really cool. Also with the title card, me being a little nerd. If it were me on this dev team, I'd try to go all out with basically you creating your own DB episode and allowing for you to play the intro immediately or before a fight, then title card, then you do the fight and then you can trigger the outro as a win or lose condition so you can have your own "NEXT TIME, ON DRAGON BALL Z" moment. Essentially making your own Dragon Ball show. That would've been sweet. But I am just fan deving at this point 😂

One thing I really like about this was the announcement of local multiplayer. While it may be disappointing that we won’t be able to play on every single stage for that game mode, the fact that they weren’t even going to add this into the game originally, yet they still did just shows that they’re listening to the community. I think that the fact they managed to add in local multiplayer despite all the issues is awesome, they found a workaround for it which means only the least interactive map in the game to (I assume) help with performance and all that, but it's still there, they managed to add it to a game that wasn't planned for it, that's the definition of devs hearing their fanbase and going that extra mile for them, props to the devs of this for actually listening and giving the community what they want.
