If Gohan had actually kept training from the Buu Saga I could see it. Thanks to his tendency to push training to the wayside to, well, be a normal productive member of society he’d never really be able to match up well against Golden Frieza. Here’s simply no way to instantly close that power gap unless by some miracle he lasts long enough for Frieza to start losing his ability to keep the form up.

That's literally the case in the Resurrection F timeline. Freeza hadn't mastered Golden Freeza. Gohan's potential unleashed has little to no strain on his body. So as long as Gohan can outlast him he'll win. Plus the nature of which allows them to use their latent power at its highest level. As a result of this, the user enters into a state that unleashes their full dormant potential and can focus it to push their power well beyond their normal limits. This is without the strain of SSJ which in theory Gohan could stack on top of it, because it's not technically a "form" it's his natural potential being utilized to the fullest. Also Gohan is a Saiyan( half Saiyan). So his power would continue to grow the longer he fights and the more damage he sustains. "Ultimate Gohan" is literally perfect for this fight.

People always cry about them abandoning and or nerfing Gohan but it makes a ton if sense for Gohan who doesn't like fighting to slack off on training to fight and focus on being a scholar full time when you have Goku and Vegeta protecting the world. As dumb as it was THIS is exactly why Goku originally left Buu to Goten and Trunks and also Gohan if Goku knew he was still alive because they needed to learn how to defend earth without him around. Super Hero ended up showing Gohan that if Goku and Vegeta aren't around and even if they are then its up to him just in case.

Gohan with his potential unleashed would have lost to Golden Frieza. In this scenario Gohan still hadn't trained for an extended period, he was out of shape in more ways than just his power level. Frieza would have curb stomped him as soon as he transformed into his Golden form.

Gohan beating Golden Frieza is a stretch, but him getting bodied by first form Frieza in the original was bullshit. Ultimate Gohan should be powerful enough to force Frieza into Golden if only for a moment to deal with Gohan. And him losing the ability to enter Ultimate form at will was ass.

Where he dismissively counts how many times he's heard each heroic line and asks that before telling the Namekian Lightbulb joke!? this should have been canon, not the part of gohan being able to beat frieza but for gohan to still train and being much stronger and clapping frieza until he goes golden. At the end of the day, they made gohan strong anyways again, but he just randomly became godtier in like what? a year? that's the biggest problem in my eyes. Imagine gohan actually training for 4 full years, having mythic and everything back, but being far above his level that he had vs buu, and then later he continues training up til the point when he learns beast form. Would be much better and would be character growth at the same time for gohan which everybody would love. instead gohan became so weak that he can't even turn "ssj" properly (LOL) and then 1year later he is stronger than ultrainstinct goku with his power xD

this makes no sense. mystic gohan's power is just a little higher than a ssj3. Goku had to resort to super sayan blue in order to beat gold freezer, not super sayan god. So 2 levels above ssj3. according to this logic mystic gohan would have no chance against golden freezer. But we know that in DB Super the logic is outdated, and the power levels no longer make sense.
